Lidocaine seizure

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine seizure

Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?

Avatar n tn The dentist came out and they brought her a pillow and were watching her. Her color started coming back and then she had another seizure. Her dentist told the receptionist to call 911. Her eyes rolled back, her hand drew up and her back arched. The ambulance took her to the emergency room and they did an MRI and said it llooked OK. She has no history of seizures and has been to the dentist many times before.
Avatar n tn There has been no seizure activity until this most recent event. Could this seizure have been associated with the use of nitrous or lidocaine? Also, I have been experiencing severe headaches and light-headedness since the seizure.
Avatar f tn Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
Avatar f tn The doctor gave me an injection of lidocaine and I woke up in the ER. I had a seizure after the procedure. The last thing I remember was the injection and me waiting for him to come back and do the procedure. He finished the procedure and he said I stood up said I did not feel good and they laid me down then I just sort of went in a trance, unresponsive. Now I am on seizure meds. Going to a neuro doctor tomorrow to find out what is really going on.
Avatar f tn Went back a third time and they did a rectal exam and diagnosed me with fecal impaction. They numbed me lidocaine for the mouth up my butt and tried a enema. Didn't work. Sent me home. I came home and ended up having a seizure from pushing so hard to go. Went back to outpatient ER by ambulance and they numbed me again with lidocaine and got about a quarter of a cup of seeds out by manual disimpaction. That hurt so bad!!!!

Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
383138 tn?1314167773 wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday. I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
306455 tn?1288862071 lotsatrout...good idea...you ought to get a patent....lidocaine suit...i like that!!! ...My educated guess says it is not addictive!!!...and we know where my educated guesses have gotten me before!!!
Avatar f tn It probably isn't the lidocaine, it's the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn Look at the ingredients on the bottle. Benzocaine is mostly made up of lidocaine -a numbing agent in no way related to cocaine. You are more likely to test positive for THC (pot) from using motrin.
Avatar f tn Antidepressants can alleviate neuropathic pain. Amitriptyline and Cymbalta are two that are often prescribed. Seizure-control drugs like Lyrica and Tegretol also suppress it. Capsaicin cream (Zostrix, no prescription needed) applied to the painful area can bring relief. Lidoderm patches and lidocaine gel, products related to Novocain, offer easing of pain." 673999 tn?1226935279 The new standard inoffice bladder instillation for IC is Lidocaine instillation with bicarbonate solution. The lidocaine is a local anesthetic and the bicarbonate allows the lidocaine to penetrate the bladder wall to get to the bladder nerves. Lidocaine without the bicarbonate solution has only minimal bladder wall penetration and very short duration of action (minutes to an hour).
Avatar m tn I have read previous posts, but am wondering what medications would cause a false negative 4th gen test. Medication that I am concerned about is lidocaine viscous. My Doctor has told me several times that it would not and that I am conclusive non-reactive. But just checking.
Avatar n tn t have a headache. I understand that there is a test or treatment involving lidocaine dripped directly on the sphenopalatine nerve. How do I get to the right specialist. More importantly, do my symptoms sound like this syndrome. I plan to explore this more with my doctor which is 12 days away.
14051 tn?1238251732 I have had 2 sympathetic blocks in the past, but no real relief. My surgeon gave me Lidocaine injections, on 2 different occasions, in my back, where the rod was on the right side to see if I had infection or the rods were the issue. The Lidocaine was a godsend!!!!
Avatar n tn My first ultra sound FNA was a done by a Radiologist. I felt the 1st stick of lidocaine. I didn't feel the other needle sticks, but felt lots of pressure. The Radiologist seemed to have lots of problems getting the needle into the nodule even though it was ultra sound guided. He poked around in me for about 25 minutes before getting a sample. I was scared to death and could feel the needle inside my throat every time I swallowed. Two days later, I was told the sample was not adequate.
Avatar m tn No I have implanted pacemaker/defibrillator. Recently i developed severe back pain and can barely walk. I got prescribed Norco, lidocaine patches, and diclofenac 75 mg. Yesterday I took Norco and I put a lidocaine patch and I woke up with weird heart sensation, like slow heart rate or something. Could it be caused by lidocaine patch? I also take the following medication: Atorvastatin Calcium 80 Mg- 1 tab in the evening Carvedilol 6.
