In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation.
I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
I understand about anatomic variations and fully believe this seizure was caused by lidocaine essentially hitting a vein and numbing my girls' brain and not her tooth; BUT, 1)This is apparently a 'rare' event, How often does it occur and does she have an increased (any?)chance of this event happening again? Or the same chance as everybody else? 2) Is she prone to seizures and this event "set her off"? 3) She still needs this lower molar filled, now what? Other drugs?
Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
The doctor gave me an injection of lidocaine and I woke up in the ER. I had a seizure after the procedure. The last thing I remember was the injection and me waiting for him to come back and do the procedure. He finished the procedure and he said I stood up said I did not feel good and they laid me down then I just sort of went in a trance, unresponsive. Now I am on seizure meds. Going to a neuro doctor tomorrow to find out what is really going on.
My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
Went back to outpatient ER by ambulance and they numbed me again with lidocaine and got about a quarter of a cup of seeds out by manual disimpaction. That hurt so bad!!!! Came home and tried to go and the rest he couldn't reach now moved down to where the others were. It was a waiting game for the seeds to soften and pass. I had them stuck in my anus for over 8 days. Worst pain I've ever been in. Now I have had hemorrhoids from the constant pushing I was doing trying to go.
Antidepressants can alleviate neuropathic pain. Amitriptyline and Cymbalta are two that are often prescribed. Seizure-control drugs like Lyrica and Tegretol also suppress it. Capsaicin cream (Zostrix, no prescription needed) applied to the painful area can bring relief. Lidoderm patches and lidocaine gel, products related to Novocain, offer easing of pain."

ve had quite a few stellate ganglion blocks and have had some success. They thought the lidocaine infusion might help the other pain I deal with and kill two (or more) birds at the same time so to speak.
KittKat23-78, Sorry the infusion didn't help you!! I hadn't heard about having several a few days apart; I'll have to ask about it. Mine is (at least one) being paid for by worker's comp. I'm hopeful but also trying to keep things realistic and in perspective.
left pointer finger, at work i stuck a cedar sliver under the nail past the start point of the nail. I attempted to pull it out and it broke off. only 1/4 inch came out so a good 1/2 inch is still in there i can see it thru the nail. I attempted to cut and split the nail with razor blade but once i got part way thru nail it hurt bad. my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches.
Has anyone ever been prescribed this for genital outbreaks or PHN? My doctor did for PHN. I just tried it for the first time it hurt to apply and doesn't feel the most pleasant now. Has anyone ever used this and what was your experience?
I would feel a whole lot better without using any anesthetic during the procedure since I had a terrible experience back in 1989 when I was given a skin test for Lidocaine and Meprivacaine? both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test.They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects.But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.
Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
I am 31 and have been diagnosed with RSD/CRPS and it is very painful and it all started with a football injury in High School. I am trying to see what other people with the same condition are receiving for treatment and it is working for them. I am currently on 40mg Oxycontin 3times a day and Oxycodone imm realease 30mg 3 times a day, Baclofen 10mg 4 times a day, tramadol 50mg 6 a day, Vitamins of all kinds, testosterone injection once a week, Naproxen 3times a day, Trazadone 150mg at bedtime.
t find any scientific articles that specifically deal with positive test results of cocaine from the use of lidocaine (anesthetic) but it is mentioned a few times. Here's a website with the information posted for false positives. You may want to contact the writer of the article to see what his/her sources were.

A few years ago my mom was diagnosed with vaginal and rectal cancer in the end the doctor prescribed her lidocaine 2% jelly for painful intercourse and bowel movements. Would it be safe to use it during anal sex? I have used it before after the birth of my daughter and it worked wonders. I would like an idea on it before I did use it.
Benzocaine and Lidocaine are two quite different products, neither are trade names (unlike xylocaine which is a trade name of lidocaine).
Normally I do not correct folks on forums, but the dangerous dose difference between the two is significant. 20% benzocaine may be acceptable for some applications, 20% lidocaine is likely to end in a bad way.
however, they were unable to get any calcifications in the 12 samples. The doctor apologized and said the lidocaine washed away the calcifications. The final report stated that there was stromall fibrosis without evidence of microcalcifications. The same report was then amended 8 days later stating "although no microcalcifications were identified, the calcifications seen on mammogram may have represented milk of calcium which may have dispersed on biposy".
I have an idopathic seizure disorder for 35 years without seizure for 28 years. I have never had an abnormal EEG, CAT, CT, MRI or PET of the Brain.
I was on Dilantin for over 30 years and transitioned to Lamictal 4 months ago however developed rash and had to be dc'd.
I have been on small dose of Klonopin and Paxil 37.

It's temporary but still I would recommend it since it is so cheap. Much cheaper then Sarna. Huge bottles 20.5 oz each, like $3.50 a bottle. I got 2 shipped by wal mart since it's not available in Phoenix at wal mart or walgreens. Cost me $12 with tax and shipping. It's worth having in the arsenal, good for riba or incevik.
