Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine otc

lidoderm

Avatar f tn so still seeking alternatives. Someone mentioned lidocaine/lidoderm patches. Any experience/ advice or other suggestions for these or other alternatives???? Other info: The muscle relaxers probably help, but I don't like to take them. They make me too sleepy and I know they can be addictive (though I seriously don't like them). I've been using a heating pad every night for a week and it hasn't helped. Salon-Pas patches help....some. The anti-inflamatory pill helps...some....
Avatar f tn What is the best OTC treatment for dry mouth and especially sore and painful tongue caused by dry mouth. Biotene samples are not giving me the relief I need and neither is saliva subsitute. They only last less than a minute. I have been constantly chewing bubble gum because I don't know what else to do but that is making my tongue more raw and sore and causing minor mouth sores.
Avatar f tn You could Try some lidocaine gel although I'm not sure it's OTC...I just dont remember...Look for an ointment that's topical and containing any kind of numbing agent. Try to leave it alone so a scab can form and that will help. Breathe through your mouth. Try to get an appt sooner. Go to an Urgent Care and they can prescribe a topical anesthetic. Take Motrin or Aleve. I can understand why you used the bactine; we will do anything when we're in pain...
Avatar m tn I use a heating pad like you already mentioned and I am on Cymbalta for chronic pain. If I take OTC pain meds, I usually take them with coffee. I have not had to go through the detox or addiction of opiates and I am trully sorry you have to go through this. Sorry I wasnt more helpful.
469210 tn?1219188128 About three weeks ago, I posted that I had these terrible mouth sores. It was causing me so much pain that I couldn't eat or even open my mouth. My tongue was covered with blisters, my cheeks and gums were so sore and my mouth had cracks at both corners. My doctor sent an oral anti-fungal rinse and also something called "Magic Mouthwash" which has Lidocaine in it. It numbs your mouth so you can eat (and talk). The oral rinses cleared up the inside of my mouth in TWO days!

Has anyone here used it before? And did it help? I tried to use it last night but it wouldnt stick to my neck.
1394098 tn?1385960134 They tested for an ulcer and gave me something for the nausea and some kind of malox cocktail with something like lidocaine in it and I did hurt so much. They didn't do an ultrasound. When I woke up today at 6:00 pm the pain had move lower into my abdomin. Is it possible that I am passing a gallstone? I took a laxative yesterday because I have had trouble with my tranverse colon. But this pain is much worse and is a sharp pain that makes it hard to even breathe deeply.
Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
383138 tn?1314167773 wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday. I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
501792 tn?1261111106 Since I have tried many IC treatments and medications. I have tried Installments, a distention and IC mediactions OTC and prescribed. I have always prefered an all natural approach to medicine but my pain has not responded to those options enough to stop taking the narcotic pain meds. I eat as naturally and organically as possible and follow an IC diet. I have SVT which interferes with alot of the options I've tried like Lupron and being able to consitantly use NSAIDS.
306455 tn?1288862071 lotsatrout...good idea...you ought to get a patent....lidocaine suit...i like that!!! ...My educated guess says it is not addictive!!!...and we know where my educated guesses have gotten me before!!!
Avatar f tn It probably isn't the lidocaine, it's the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn s a topical anesthetic you can spray on several times a day for comfort. You can also now buy lidocaine otc now - elamax or LMX is one such product you can find in many drugstores too ( it's more $$ than the dermoplast though ). Topical anesthetics are nice because they numb the area of the actual blisters quickly instead of taking a pill that has systemic side effects and takes 30 minutes to start working.
673999 tn?1226935279 The new standard inoffice bladder instillation for IC is Lidocaine instillation with bicarbonate solution. The lidocaine is a local anesthetic and the bicarbonate allows the lidocaine to penetrate the bladder wall to get to the bladder nerves. Lidocaine without the bicarbonate solution has only minimal bladder wall penetration and very short duration of action (minutes to an hour).
Avatar m tn I have read previous posts, but am wondering what medications would cause a false negative 4th gen test. Medication that I am concerned about is lidocaine viscous. My Doctor has told me several times that it would not and that I am conclusive non-reactive. But just checking.
Avatar n tn t have a headache. I understand that there is a test or treatment involving lidocaine dripped directly on the sphenopalatine nerve. How do I get to the right specialist. More importantly, do my symptoms sound like this syndrome. I plan to explore this more with my doctor which is 12 days away.
14051 tn?1238251732 I have had 2 sympathetic blocks in the past, but no real relief. My surgeon gave me Lidocaine injections, on 2 different occasions, in my back, where the rod was on the right side to see if I had infection or the rods were the issue. The Lidocaine was a godsend!!!!
Avatar n tn My first ultra sound FNA was a done by a Radiologist. I felt the 1st stick of lidocaine. I didn't feel the other needle sticks, but felt lots of pressure. The Radiologist seemed to have lots of problems getting the needle into the nodule even though it was ultra sound guided. He poked around in me for about 25 minutes before getting a sample. I was scared to death and could feel the needle inside my throat every time I swallowed. Two days later, I was told the sample was not adequate.
