Lidocaine for vulvodynia

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for vulvodynia

lidoderm

Avatar f tn I need to find either a vulvular specialist or neurologist who treats pudendal neuralgia in the Miami, FL area. I have seen 13 doctors for extreme vulvodynia (specifically clitoridynia) which is getting worse by the day and have had no relief from every medication imaginable (Elavil, Neurontin,Lyrica, opiods, compounded meds, lidocaine). I need a non-medication approach like nerve block, but every neurologist I've contacted does not treat this disorder. HELP!!
Avatar f tn Forget the Lidocaine it does not work well for the pain also the gel sticks to your underwear which sticks to you and then the pain starts all over again. Wearing larger size underwear does help, not washing with soap or letting any shampoos and so on touch the area helps, talc helps short term to stop the sticking or rubbing. Not wiping yourself with paper but just dab helps or using wipes with nothing in them helps too. Not wearing underwear in bed also helps.
Avatar f tn The only other time I have experienced any redness is from giving myself contact dermatitis in my vagina from too much aspercream with lidocaine down there. Am now just using coconut oil with lidocaine for pain and started a ssri. Saw a pain doctor who believes my pain is viral in nature-maybe shingles recurrence (which I have had in the past but not in groin area). Have you ever heard of any cases of herpes like this??
Avatar f tn There are other treatment options, I go for instillations, where I get catheterized and a combination of heparin and lidocaine are put directly into the bladder and held there for at least a half hour. This helps with the flares when you feel like your bladder is a ball of fire or someone is taking a hot arrow head and poking you in the bladder. Feel free to message me if you have any further questions.
Avatar n tn Vestibulitis, also called Vulvodynia, can be difficult to treat and you should look for someone in your area that has an interest in the treatment of this condition. You may find the National Vulvodynia Association, www.nva.org of help.
Avatar f tn I still try to have it occasionally and sometimes use a spray with lidocaine. Every time I have sex I always bleed afterwards, not too much but it’s every single time. This is without using the spray/ unprotected/protected and using the spray. I’ve had a vaginal ultrasound in April which was normal and I’m clean for all sexual infections and have never had one. Can anyone suggest what to do or what it could be?
Avatar f tn For the past 4-5 years or maybe since I've had sex I have experienced vaginal discomfort/burning. I've been treated for MANY bladder infections and yeast infections. Most doctors just send me off w/ antibiotics that usually do not make my problem go away. I'm getting to a desperate pt for answers. Maybe I need to see a urologist? The pain happens after I pee and wipe, after/during sex, and sometimes just from sitting and crossing my legs for long periods of time.
Avatar f tn ve used Lidocaine for several months now. It dulls the pain most days, does little on others, and has offered no long-term relief. Most of the women I've seen posting on forums on the internet have suffered from this for a decade or more. One doctor suggests vulvodynea is a result of a weakening of the pelvic floor muscles, which puts pressure on the nerves, and that Kegel exercises can relieve 80 percent of the pain.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago I went to the gynecologist for the first time.. I am 21 and haven't had intercourse because of the pain I experience every time my fiancé and I try to have sex. Anyways I went to the gynecologist and not to my surprise I gave her a hard time (unintentionally) with inserting the speculum. She got frustrated with me but I was unable to control my tensing up every time she tried.
Avatar m tn Vulvodynia is a unexplained pain in the vaginal area. The causes that may contribute to vulvodynia include nutritional deficiences, chemical irritants, nerve injury, muscle spasms, allergies, hormonal changes, yeast infections, high levels of oxalate crystals in the urine, genetic issues. As i had unexplained bladder pain for 2 years due to severe magnesium deficiency, i thought i would see if magnesium could help your condition. And this is what i found...
401370 tn?1233324682 The current research is focused on delineating risk factors for developing Vulvodynia.
Avatar n tn m pretty sure I have HSV1, because I occasionally get cold sores on my lip (as a result, I rarely give my boyfriend oral sex.) Should I get tested for HSV2 because of the vulvodynia? I am very hesitant to, because I'm not sure how I would deal with a positive result. Part of me feels like I'm better off not knowing... any advice??
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar f tn There is little point in self-diagnosing that there is a link to vulvodynia, it sounds like (if you have or had vulvodynia) you have something unrelated to it now.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.

Avatar n tn I have had vulvodynia for about 8 years now and it is one of the hardest things to treat.I have had very little luck with getting some relief.creams seem to make the problem worse, and they say not to do surgery because the problem just comes back.I really dont have any answers, for this really bad illness! It can destroy relationships, and marriages.Thank goodness I have a real understanding husband and even we have had our problems because of this.

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with vulvodynia by my gynecologist, after other diagnoses for vaginal pain. Then, I had a screening by a chiropractor that said my L1 disc was not right and that this could be affecting various organs including my vagina. Does anyone know of any research connecting these two thing? Has anyone been through a similar situation and can offer advice? Thanks!
