1269644 tn?1270486006 I have had bloody diarrhea, dizziness, muscle aches/pains, fatigue and nausea for the past 9 months. The Dr. said that he saw some inflammation in the left side of my colon and took some Biopsies. Is this how he can tell if it is Crohn's or UC? Can't he tell just by the imaging through the Colonoscopy? What can they determine under a scope? Also, he prescribed me Lialda 2x's a day.. Anyone taking this have any side effects? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have never used Lialda but have been on Remicade for a few years. I have also gained a lot of weight. The doctor keeps telling me that it is not related to the Remicade. Having Crohn's, I am not a big eater but the weight keeps piling on. I am so frustrated. I also experience joint pain....especially in the knees and rediculous itching spells. But, once again, told it is not related to the medicine. Hmmmmm......
Avatar f tn Was recently hospitalized for crohn's flare for 4 days. Given cipro and flagyl via IV and steroid shots via IV. A week later home taking cipro and prednizone orally. Many side effects? Feel worse now than before? What are the best meds to quiet the inflamation and stomach swelling? This is all new to me and feeling overwhelmed. What about anit-anxiety meds, depression? Help!
Avatar m tn I took Celebrex for several years for joint pain due to Crohn's. I keep having bowel obstructions so I went to a new dr. He told me to stop taking the Celebrex and start taking a tylenol everyday. I have not had any more obstructions but I do still have some joint pain.
Avatar m tn I have just started taking Lialda. I previously took Asacol. I enjoy the Lialda because I was taking 3 pills three times a day with Asacol and now I only take 4 pills once a day with Lialda. I haven't been on the Lialda for very long, but so far the results are good. I'm not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda.

I am leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday and am scheduled to swim with the dolphins on Thursday. 501944 tn?1224056021 I have had Crohn's disease for about 3 years and I am having problems with vomiting and I don't know what to do!! If you have any advice please help, I feel lost! I have some problems swallowing and I frequently feel like there is something in my throat ready to come up. I was vomiting almost every night for about two weeks I then felt a little better and it only occurred every couple of days. Well right now I can't hold anything down. I'm afraid to eat, but I am hungry.
48668 tn?1201543083 Both diseases are thought to be caused by an autoimmune system malfunction. Although this is just a theory in the study of Crohn's Disease, it would tend to indicate that a child whose autoimmune system attacks his or her pancreas cells may also be a candidate for the autoimmune system causing problems elsewhere. Also, some researchers in Crohn's Disease treatments tend to believe that bacterial overgrowth can be the cause of some of the inflammation.
Avatar f tn My 16y/o daughter has UC. Has been on Lialda 2.4 g/day for 6 months. She was on prednisone for the first 4 months of the same time period. Has had significant hair loss for the last 5 months. Cortisol AM is normal. My duaghter also has ITP and is considered chronic, it usually manifests during a UC flare up. Is the Lialda a possible culprit.
Avatar n tn is it possible to have crohn's disease while having none of the symptoms and being on no medications for almost 10 years.
Avatar f tn For several years now I have been suffering from abdominal pain on my right side as well as acid reflux, nauseau, vomitting, constipation and diarhea. Since 2001 I have had several surgeries to try and fix the problem. They include: having my gall bladder removed, two surgeries for endometriosis, a total hysterectomy and my appendix removed. The doctors that I see have done several tests including a pill cam, several ct's, xrays and blood work.
1070971 tn?1299614110 I have actually been on Lialda for a year and have experienced a gain of about 5 lbs. In hopes of loosing those 5 pounds I have been working out basically 4 days a week since May doing pretty high intensity work outs like running 3 miles and taking spin classes - i have not lost a single pound!!!!...im looking for answers too! I was thinking that maybe it makes it difficult to loose weight. if you find any answers I'd love to know!
Avatar f tn Montey, I know this may sound a bit strange, but what you're describing sounds a lot like Crohn's disease with a bit of celiac disease mixed in. I know you were tested for celiac, but most of the tests for celiac are pretty terrible about giving you a true read on the disease. If they didn't do the full blood test (IgA/IgG gliadin, IgA total, transglutaminase and endomysial tests) they won't get a true result.
Avatar n tn http://www.livingwithcrohnsdisease.com/livingwithcrohnsdisease/clinical_research/index.html Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your gastroenterologist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I've had the same problem and found a healthy protein drink named AbsorbPlus. It's expensive and from Canada, but unlike the ones I've found here in the US, it is good for you - no corn syrup, absorbable protein, etc.. The woman who developed it had Crohn's herself. I also found eating cheese, rice with sauteed vegetables in olive oil (the vegetables being mushy), mashed potatoes with butter and milk, etc.. helpful to maintaining/gaining weight.
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms for an Crohn's disease? Can it lead to any kinda complication like Arthritis? Anyone can explain it precisely?
3242115 tn?1447004766 I was told I may have Crohn's Disease due to my symptoms and am waiting to hear back from a specialist as to when I can have a scope done. I also have suffered with Bulimia and know of a few cases where the eating disorder has in fact caused the disease due to the unhealthy ways of eating and then regurgitating the food back up.
Avatar n tn Oral manifestations of Crohn's disease are granulomatous lesions. It rarely involves periodntal tissue. However, Crohn's disease may be associated with food intolerance.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking lialda 2 capsules twice a day. I basically stopped taking the lialda because it made me feel worse than I already was. My question is is there a reason why the lialda makes me have pain in my gut. Are there any other new meds out there of UC? Are there any new surgeries to cure UC?
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years, I have been getting recurrent canker sores. They would apprear twice a month. They disappeared only when I was in my secong and third trimester of pregnancy. I did various tests and a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease. I also did the ASCA and ANCA blood tests. My colonsocopy was normal. ANCA was negative but ASCA was positive. I dont have the classic symptoms of Crohn's (diarrhea). is a positive ASCA an indicator of Crohn's?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 31 year old male with Crohn's disease. I have a question regarding the appearance of my anus, and whether this is caused by Crohn's disease. For a while (probably years) I've noticed while cleaning that my anus felt as though it had flaps, or almost lips for a lack of a better term. Recently i decided to take a picture, and this was confirmed. And to my horror, was fairly unattractive. Almost as if my anus is loose or has developed hanging tags.
Avatar n tn Hi there. So sorry you are having to live with this awful disease. I was diagnosed with UC when I was 22. The first 5 years weren't too bad and they were able to treat with just asacol. In later years (and with huge stress in my life - you need to find ways to keep that down) I had very severe attacks that put me in and out of the hospital and on Prednisone. After 10 years my bowel perforated while in the hospital and I had surgery to remove my colon and was given an ileostomy.
Avatar n tn Is crohn's disease hereditary? My grandson’s Dad has crohn's. My grandson is only 3 years old. He suffers with severe diarrhea frequently. Should we be concerned at 3?
