Avatar f tn For several years now I have been suffering from abdominal pain on my right side as well as acid reflux, nauseau, vomitting, constipation and diarhea. Since 2001 I have had several surgeries to try and fix the problem. They include: having my gall bladder removed, two surgeries for endometriosis, a total hysterectomy and my appendix removed. The doctors that I see have done several tests including a pill cam, several ct's, xrays and blood work.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease. The dr. wants him to take prevacid, in addition to the pentasa he is taking 3 times a day. Also--i saw some info on not taking prevacid if you've had allergic reaction to penicillin (which he has)..........anyone know anything about that?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 31 year old male with Crohn's disease. I have a question regarding the appearance of my anus, and whether this is caused by Crohn's disease. For a while (probably years) I've noticed while cleaning that my anus felt as though it had flaps, or almost lips for a lack of a better term. Recently i decided to take a picture, and this was confirmed. And to my horror, was fairly unattractive. Almost as if my anus is loose or has developed hanging tags.
Avatar n tn My daughter (14) has Crohn's disease, and it's treated with Pentasa (8 pills a day). Right now she is an a flare, and is on tube feeding every night where she is getting 80% of her nutrition for the day. She gets extremely tired when she is in a flare, and has an extremely hard time to get up in the morning. Is there any kind of supplements or vitamins which can help? She is also having joint and bone pain in her right foot and knee. Anything that can be done there? Thank you!
501944 tn?1224056021 Has anyone heard of 6-mp for Crohn's? A friend said her husband is on it for C.D. and he is doing great. Many side effects but he has only had a few minor ones.
Avatar n tn http://www.livingwithcrohnsdisease.com/livingwithcrohnsdisease/clinical_research/index.html Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your gastroenterologist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
456090 tn?1259694837 What have yall experienced in regards to possible meds for treating Crohn's Disease. I just found out on 3/18/08 that I have this and was given 500mg of Pentasa to be taken 2x per day (morning/evening). This is to soon to find out if this will help with the constant pain but I was just wondering what yall thought. I have also suffer from night sweats, loose bowel, etc.
Avatar f tn I am a 46 year old desperate to save my j- pouch!16 years age I was diagonsed with ulcerative colitis. My entire colon was removed . I had a temporary iliostomy then 3 months later experienced a successful reversal. Today I am recovering from a ruptured bowel, I once again have an iliostomy, and have been diagonsed with Crohn's disease. The first line of treatment was 4 weeks on Pentasa and Rowasa.
Avatar m tn If this was UC I assume that this was done emergently for toxic megacolon. UC is usually worse near the anus with less involvement the furyher up you go. Thev option for "reversal" is to remove the lining of the rectum and pull a pouch made from the end of the small intestine through the muscle tube remaining from the rectum. This would not be a good idea if it was Crohn's disease. In Crohn's disease, it is a little unusual to be able to reconnect the rectum.
Avatar f tn I was your age when I was taking 22 pills a day for Crohn's and not making any progress on the disease at all. At age 35 I was so ill I almost died and the doctors gave me an ileostomy. I thought it would be the end of my life but it turned out to be the beginning. I never felt better. That surgery was in 1985. I am still doing well. If you ever want to ask me any questions about the surgery please do.
Avatar n tn Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain. Got better after a week back on Pentasa. Had another colonoscopy-essentially negative in late Jan. I continue to have burning pain in my rectum and RLQ and right hand, general fatigue. Stress makes it worse. Do I have crohn's, lupus, what????
1427823 tn?1282968778 I was diagnosed about a year ago. For as long as I can remember I'd suffer from seemingly random bouts of severe bloating, pain, etc. that would go away in 24 hours or so. I have since recognized this as Crohn's and now pretty much have the disease under control. I know it's different for everyone, but personally I find that, in addition to taking Pentasa, the lowest level non steroidal drug for Crohn's, diet and stress are key.
Avatar f tn Hi my name is Tj and I am 55 years old.......I too have Crohn's disease and I took the liberty to answering a few forum questions.......I was wondering about something and maybe it has happened to someone else......who has Crohn's Disease. I had a bowel resection a few years back and before that I had very (this is a messy subject sorry....lol)....soft bowel movements like pudding .......since the resection I had more normal movements as I take "Cholestramine".....
Avatar m tn I feel for you and can relate. My son has been 48" tall and about 48 lbs for about four years. The meds for this are scary. You have to trust your instincts. Insist the docs follow your son closely by doing and reviewing blood work often...no less often than every three months. We have been "climbing the medication ladder" ourselves: Pentasa (oral), 6MP (oral), now Remicade (infusion). Each one of these is great, when it works.
Avatar f tn I have been on it, but for me it did not do anything, but I have a really bad case of crohn's. I have been on every medication in the book except for remicaid which they are doing next, but here are some of the meds that seemed to help me the most. entocort prednisone 40mg daily for 1 week, then 30 a day for a week, 20mg a day for a week, 10mg a day for a week 5mg a day for a week.
Avatar n tn I am on Cimzia and Pentasa 4grams a day, for the Crohns itself, Dicyclomine for most bowl and rectal spasms (works in calming down the need to go), and Tramodol 100mg (8 max a day) though I sometimes use more. Strange thing, the Tramodol acts like a diuretic and with the Dicyclomine, tends to control the pain and symptoms to the point where I am functional again. Although, if it wasn't for the Pentasa and Cimzia , I would be in the hospital or going crazy from the pain and discomfort.
Avatar n tn I have had Crohn's 4 years and was on Pentasa and 6MP successfully for the first two. I have frequent problems with my esophagus. My doctor actually put me on Diflucan today for a really swollen throat because he thinks I have candida. I actually couldnt eat all day because it was so bad. It feels constricted, full and heavy. Does your tongue look like thrush? You know, white and furry, like little babies who nurse? It might be as simple as that.
Avatar f tn Oh i know i hate it. i dont really eat a whole lot of anything so my diet really isnt my problem. I dont know what the problem is honestly. I just wish that something productive was being done. Thankfully I have found a doctor that I absolutely adore as a doctor. The first gastro doctor I went to told me there was no hope for me and that I was just going to have to live with the pain for the rest of my life.
Avatar m tn I have been on several different medications since then and am currently taking Imuran and Pentasa to control my disease. The Crohn's seems to be under control. For the last year, however, i have been having a pain in my lower back (actually it is more in my buttocks). My GI doctor didn't seem to think it was anything, probably a muscular thing. Went to the Chiropractor 7 times to no avail.
Avatar m tn im currently on pentasa/azathioprine 100mg a day/ i often wonder what to do for the best sometimes? what kind of symptons do u have?? be nice to share what other people go threw ??
Avatar n tn Hi to everybody here this is very new to me I've never done on community chat or anything I'm 33 I have Crohn's disease with celiac disease and found out I am pregnant I only have one child that is 14 I had two other miscarriages I started cramping really bad yesterday and bleeding lightly not bright red and brown I've never heard of implantation bleeding and very helpful maybe that is what this is my mind is going crazy with thoughts and I guess with reading some of the things t
Avatar f tn i have uc 2 years ago i have no diahrea no belly pain just some time see some blood when i go to bath i take pentasa 4 pills per days for 8 mounths i i didn't see any blood from the first 10 days when i started to take pentasa i stopped to take it 7 mounths but then the bleeding back then i started to take pentasa again but since 3 months but bleeding never stop come and god ,,,i heard that vitamin D, yoghurt , banana, fenugreek,tumeric..
Avatar m tn I also have Crohn's disease, and I am curently on Remicade and Pentasa. Recently I began having agonizing joint pains. The last time I got Remicade, the pains went aways immediately, however they came back after 3 weeks. I only get the Remicade Infusion once every six weeks, so I am looking into what I can take for the joint pain in between. I am currently trying Tylenol and Tramadol, but they don't work all that well for me.
Avatar n tn Hi Nenalicia2, It's possible it has something to do with the IUD. Have you had a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy? The pathologist will look at cell samples and let you know if it looks like you have acute or chronic colitis. Chronic is associated with conditions such as Crohn's or UC, while acute colitis could be the result of an infection or antibiotic aftermath. I had a copper IUD (paraguard) inserted in the fall of 2007.
Avatar f tn i believe that pentasa is more for management of colitis once it's under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
Avatar f tn This was after many different tests for different things. I was on Prednozone and Pentasa at first. I am still on Pentasa 8 times a day and many other meds. Mostly for pain, cramps and bleeding. Go to the crohns.com web site and after signing up, they will send you a wonderful book that answers many questions. I am glad to help and answer concerns. That's how we help each other. Please ask anything. It's like having a baby, all modesty is out the window.
Avatar m tn I have had crohn's for 10 years and been through the treatments. First supplements and probiotics are pretty standard fare for the disease. All crohnies have nutritional problems. If your aunt is in a severe flare, take her to the ER. They will make sure there is nothing really bad going on, get her hydrated and out of pain. For me hydration is the biggest thing, and sometimes the pain free rest. They will also assign her a GI doc if she is admitted, maybe she will like the one she gets.
Avatar m tn I do not know what medication your girlfriend is on, but I have had Crohn's for 10+ years and was on birth contol until I had a tubal. I know you have to be careful because during a flare up you do not absorb things properly, including pills like birth control. I was always told during those times to use condoms too to be safe. Has she ever considered a different form of birth control like the shots, rings, or sponges? These will protect against pregnancy, but not std's.
1869943 tn?1322654497 m down to six Pentasa tablet per day every day and at the first sign of Diiarhia I use a Pentasa Enima at night for about four nights and I'm right as rain. I really hope this is helpful to you, I'm not used to typing this much but you do sound desperate, oh and just a reminder do not eat Pepermints or anything related in any way. That too is a no no for me lol.
