Common Questions and Answers about Levofloxacin and hypoglycemia

483814 tn?1214311480 Serious and occasionally fatal events, such as hypersensitivity and/or anaphylactic reactions and some of unknown etiology, have been reported in patients receiving therapy with quinolones, including levofloxacin. These reactions may include effects on the liver, including hepatitis, jaundice, and acute hepatic necrosis or failure, and hematologic effects, including agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, and other hematologic abnormalities.
Avatar m tn That is an excellent question, since both antibiotics are fluoroquinalones, the same class of drugs. It is not a good idea to take a "lot of these drugs". Tendon rupture and horrible aches and pains for months can result. People have different genetic tolerances. I can tolerate Cipro, for example, however Levofloxacin caused me terrible problems for almost eight months. Getting back to your question the answer is "probably", but not absolutely positively. .
Avatar n tn Careful with Levofloxacin. Sometimes the side effects aren't worth the benefits. I took Levofloxacin to cure a bout of pneumonia. Sure enough, the infection cleared up, but my joints ached so bad I could not raise my arms to take a shower, put my clothes on, bend to tie my shoes, get in and out of a car quickly. Strength training and jogging was out of the question for a month.
Avatar m tn 2 weeks after the last injection the microbioligal sample was negative, but DNA showed gardnerella vaginalis and I took 7 days Levofloxacin. Symptoms persist. I was tested for: * Urine DNA Chlamydia test negative * Urethral swab DNA for Trichomonas, ureaplasma and micoplasa - negative I went to a surgeon for hemorroids who did prostate massage and told me I had problems with the prostate, but 2 months before that my prostate was normal in size on echograph.
Avatar m tn I tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV and all tests have been negative and I do not have any discharge...just aching. Is Levofloxacin prescribed for NGU and epidimitis? I apologize for so many questions, but I've always been a healthy person so I'm pretty concerned. Also, with all my blood work being normal is it still possible to have an infection? Thanks!
1773104 tn?1314155711 Certainly hypoglycemia can trigger anxiety and panic, but rarely would it be the sole cause behind it. It is common for someone new to anxiety to do serious soul searching to try and find a logical "reason" behind the new emergence of anxiety and panic. We turn into detectives and try to find a sensible reason why it showed up (most times seemingly "out of the blue").
Avatar n tn Is 500 mg of Levofloxacin every 48 hours suppose to make a 70 year old diabetic dialysis patient drowsy, fatigued, emotionally disturbed, and delirious? Is it okay to stop the continuing dosage after seeing the affects of the first dose?
Avatar n tn well this could be the hypoglycemia, i too have it but dont often have symptoms because i eat constantly and eat candy often. but i am no doctor so you should definately ask your doctor about it. hypoglycemia seems to be thought of as not serious, but in fact its just as serious as diabetes, and also can progress like diabetes. you may have been told this 5 years ago but it may have progressed to a higher level. it could be worse. you need to have your doctor check your blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn If Levofloxacin caused peripherial neuropathy will Cipro also if I take that as an alternate?
Avatar m tn Thank you HowardH, for your response. I don't seem to have any ars symptoms, but I could have had a mild fever for 1-5 days before taking levofloxacin. I'm not sure because I never used a thermometer, and now I wish I did. But if I did, I was functioning relatively well for a fever. This answers my question, but in case anyone else wants more information, I'd like to respond to nursegirl's comments too.
Avatar m tn Penicillin, ampicillin, cefotaxime are a similar drug class Cephaloporins and penicillin type drugs, and levofloxacin and cipro are also in their own drug class (quinolones) while vancomycin is a diffierent drug class. Let me know what I can help you with. Or if I answered your question.
Avatar n tn Have you had a glucose tolerance test to see if your body produces too much insulin as a reaction when you eat? This is a different test from having a simple blood sugar test -- you must drink a sugary solution and blood is drawn several times to see how your body is reacting. Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test.
Avatar f tn Hallo every 1 just a question went to Dr and he gave me levofloxacin 500mg for 7 days did not skip dose took pill as Dr said didn't have entercourse or nothing tomorrow is my last pill why do I still feel inching inside my urethra not constant can it maybe be trichomoniasis or what's going on here. I'm very stressed over this constant pressing and looking for dischard and and and.
Avatar f tn I also tested ejaculate and they found klebsiella pneumonia so i took levofloxacin (500mg daily), and now it s 6th day i started with levofloxacin. My symptoms are still present, i also feal pain sometimes in lower abdomen, simptoms come and go during day and i cant stand it anymore. What should i do, can this be because or iritation with hand antiseptic or klebsiola or some other bactery (hidden syphilis) or even virus (herpes, hpv...
Avatar m tn 2) Hard lump in the left testicle from 4 days ago until about today. (I went to the doctor and started levofloxacin, 100mg x3 a day for over 7 days. I live in Japan, so yes, this dosage is 100% correct. I read somewhere that people thought this dosage is not possible). I've been checking all day and it really seemed to have disappeared, but the testicle is still weak and sensitive, so maybe it's possible that 1.
Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
Avatar m tn yes, i was diagnosed with hypoglycemia of some kind, at the doctors office my blood pressure was 70/50 i felt dizzy, its always low, and my resting heart rate is 45 or so , and i do smoke which i think is wierd, i used to exercise a little, plus i also take klonopin and zoloft......
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?
Avatar n tn Many people have some hypoglycemia(through increased insulin sensitivity) after they exercise and the effect can last for hours afterwards. If you are on insulin, you can decrease your dose prior to exercising. Otherwise, you can eat some additional carbs prior to exercising and also afterwards, with some complexed in a meal so that it lasts for a while to prevent hypoglycemia later.
Avatar n tn If not, then perhpas the narcotic medication is to blame and another medication should be considered. Pain is miserable, but hypoglycemia can be life-threatening (especially when driving), so an alternative medication would perhaps be the smarter approach even if pain is not treated quite as well with it.
Avatar f tn Trembling, fatigue and headaches after meals may be caused by postprandial hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. To verify this diagnosis, you need to check your blood sugar level ( a blood glucose level that falls below 70mg/dL). This condition usually occurs in individuals who do not have diabetes. Associated symptoms include sweating, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness and difficulty with speech.
Avatar n tn I have a question though, i was going through my old prescriptions and i remember taking levofloxacin for 7 days for strep throat during my window period for testing.... on the description it says that : Levofloxacin is a synthetic" chemotherapeutic" antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone drug class... Don't chemotherapeutic affect the outcome of an hiv test.... Just a question i have...
Avatar m tn They didnt give me anything so i went back to the gyno , he said everything is fine with my genital area, it must be a UTI, so he gave me levofloxacin , uva ursi and D-mannose. My symptoms got better a little bit, i dont feel like my bladder is going to kill me anytime, but still i need to urinate frequently. After the levofloxacin, i went to a diffenrent urologist, a private one and asked him about interstitial cystitis , but he said that it is a really bad UTI and i should take more uva ursi.

Avatar m tn m on the medication, azithromycin dosage is over and 2 tablets left for levofloxacin, and my eye redness has reduced a bit and the burning during urination reduced a bit too but not completely gone. What i want to know is:- 1.Will this antibiotic course be enough to cure my conjunctivitis? 2.Should I be taking antibiotic eye drops as well? 3.should i go see an ophthalmologist? 4.My vision gets a bit blurred at times, but washing with water or blinking a few times fixes it.
