Hi everyone ineed help I'm so confused. I have a 2 month old baby girl she has been breastfeed since birth. 2 days ago I went to the e.r because I had a high fever and chills I got diagnosed with a kidney infection and was put on anti biotics for 10 days ): the doctor have me "levofloxacin" 500 mg once a day he told me to stop nursing my baby for 10 days.
That is an excellent question, since both antibiotics are fluoroquinalones, the same class of drugs. It is not a good idea to take a "lot of these drugs". Tendon rupture and horrible aches and pains for months can result. People have different genetic tolerances. I can tolerate Cipro, for example, however Levofloxacin caused me terrible problems for almost eight months. Getting back to your question the answer is "probably", but not absolutely positively. .
Careful with Levofloxacin. Sometimes the side effects aren't worth the benefits. I took Levofloxacin to cure a bout of pneumonia. Sure enough, the infection cleared up, but my joints ached so bad I could not raise my arms to take a shower, put my clothes on, bend to tie my shoes, get in and out of a car quickly. Strength training and jogging was out of the question for a month.
2 weeks after the last injection the microbioligal sample was negative, but DNA showed gardnerella vaginalis and I took 7 days Levofloxacin. Symptoms persist. I was tested for:
* Urine DNA Chlamydia test negative
* Urethral swab DNA for Trichomonas, ureaplasma and micoplasa - negative
I went to a surgeon for hemorroids who did prostate massage and told me I had problems with the prostate, but 2 months before that my prostate was normal in size on echograph.
I tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV and all tests have been negative and I do not have any discharge...just aching. Is Levofloxacin prescribed for NGU and epidimitis? I apologize for so many questions, but I've always been a healthy person so I'm pretty concerned. Also, with all my blood work being normal is it still possible to have an infection?

Is 500 mg of Levofloxacin every 48 hours suppose to make a 70 year old diabetic dialysis patient drowsy, fatigued, emotionally disturbed, and delirious?
Is it okay to stop the continuing dosage after seeing the affects of the first dose?
If Levofloxacin caused peripherial neuropathy will Cipro also if I take that as an alternate?
Thank you HowardH, for your response. I don't seem to have any ars symptoms, but I could have had a mild fever for 1-5 days before taking levofloxacin. I'm not sure because I never used a thermometer, and now I wish I did. But if I did, I was functioning relatively well for a fever.
This answers my question, but in case anyone else wants more information, I'd like to respond to nursegirl's comments too.
Penicillin, ampicillin, cefotaxime are a similar drug class Cephaloporins and penicillin type drugs, and levofloxacin and cipro are also in their own drug class (quinolones) while vancomycin is a diffierent drug class.

2) Hard lump in the left testicle from 4 days ago until about today. (I went to the doctor and started levofloxacin, 100mg x3 a day for over 7 days. I live in Japan, so yes, this dosage is 100% correct. I read somewhere that people thought this dosage is not possible). My symptoms got better a little bit, i dont feel like my bladder is going to kill me anytime, but still i need to urinate frequently. After the levofloxacin, i went to a diffenrent urologist, a private one and asked him about interstitial cystitis , but he said that it is a really bad UTI and i should take more uva ursi.

m on the medication, azithromycin dosage is over and 2 tablets left for levofloxacin, and my eye redness has reduced a bit and the burning during urination reduced a bit too but not completely gone.
What i want to know is:-
1.Will this antibiotic course be enough to cure my conjunctivitis?
2.Should I be taking antibiotic eye drops as well?
3.should i go see an ophthalmologist?
4.My vision gets a bit blurred at times, but washing with water or blinking a few times fixes it.

I think there have been some studies showing certain antibiotics can cause false positive urine screenings. Do a search and Ask your DR if they know if it is a possibility for a Urine tox screen to come up dirty if your taking certain anti-biotics.
I dont know who else you can go to besides your DR except a lab. They may know also.

I ended up smoking my fair share of marijuana during the 7 days of taking levofloxacin. I looked on the internet to see if it would interfere and it didnt really say anything so i took the chance, because i'm addicted to marijuanna and its hard to stop.
Anyways, i just dont understand how i didnt get cured the first time, considering the chances, and now this 2nd time, i'm not feeling confident... what is going on?

I went back to the doctor and he gave me levofloxacin for tonsillitis but my throat is still sore on the 8th day on levofloxacin. In september i had a lung infection which i used levofloxacin for and i was coughing up greenish phlegm and it worked for that. I did smoke blunts for that time in september but I've stopped smoking weed for about a month now, and everytime i would smoke weed i would get itchy.
I have been on the levofloxacin for 5 days now and the testicle ache has gone and come back, along with the irritation under the head. Still no discharge excepting during one bowel movement. Then she said I should go to the urologist, which i ended up doing regardless of the rash due to me having epididymitis in my left testicle.
