Levemir units

Common Questions and Answers about Levemir units

levemir

Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.
Avatar f tn My friend just took 6 units of Levemir instead of her normal Humalog. What should she do now?
1353681 tn?1387083733 Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn Hi, the length of time of vial of generic insulin depends on what your insulin dose is. For example. A vial of insulin has 1000 Units. If you are taking say 50 units a day, then this vial will last for 20 days. I used mixed insulin in the past, and while it can be quite effective, because it is a fixed amount of both medium and short acting insulin, you will need to eat on schedule to avoid going low.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently changed my long acting insulin from lantus 90 units at night, to toujeo 90 units. Since taking toujeo I have gained 8 pound in 3 weeks. I'm so not happy. Lantus I didn't have that problem. I just had hip surgery so I can't move around as much. The doctor is like your making excuses about gaining weight. I follow a vegan vegetarian meal plan I'm not making excuses. I haven't gained weight in two years. I've been losing. She is pissing me off.
Avatar m tn Also, you mentioned that you are taking 500 units of Insulin. That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.
20693191 tn?1503884408 She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough. During the day my ratios went from 1:7 to 1:6. Still, my readings were too low in the morning, when waking up.
Avatar n tn I was not getting into single figures on the dose pescribed and upping it (now by 2 units) has not helped. Novorapid sort of keeps it under control at meals but my base rate is simply not adequate. When I eat I eat incredibly healthily, I exercise daily, and I am not drinking alcohol, but at present I find I am hardly eating at all in the day to try and keep things under control. I am headachy and worried. My specialist can't see me until next month, can you advise what might be goinmg on?
Avatar f tn I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn For example, I eat about 30 g of carbs per day. My basal is about 20 units of Levemir. My bolus is very little and i use 0 - 5 units per day on most days.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic 2. Taking Levemir 23 units at night. 13 unit humalog in every meal. Sugar is not very well controlled yet. But does not go above 10 mmol/l . I feel shortness of breath, if I walk or quickly come in the bed. Before 6 months EKG was done and no problem.
Avatar n tn I havnt seen a lot of results yet.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
1111143 tn?1259092353 She told me to inject 20 units just before bed, increasing it by 2 units each night until my morning fasting level is 120 or below. I'm already up to 45 units, but my fasting level this morning was still over 300. How much is too much insulin? The pen only goes up to 60 units in one shot. It appears to me as if this insulin is having little to no effect on me. Any insight would be very appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn 2 I have also lost 49lbs without trying over the last 4 months. I take insulin. 30 units of levemir in the a.m. and 12 units of Novolog before meals. Could any of this have anything to do with my diabetes? I have had other tests and surgerys in the past. Went off the Depo shot 2 years ago after being on it for 9 years. My GYN said something about autoammune and diabetes but didn't understand ( he talks quick, lol ) I would really appreciate any input!! Thank you!!
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
1340011 tn?1276617767 My Sugar is 200 or so in the mornings taking 46 units of insulin in the evening. I am pretty sedentary but have been trying water aerobics once a week. Any help would be appreciated. I am married and have a hubby who is a hoarder so that doesn't help either.
529799 tn?1226797209 But I am still only taking minuscule amounts of insulin, 2 units breakfast and lunch, 3 at dinner and 9 units of levemir. I am also taking 50micro gms of Eutroxsig. I eat healthy, there is no doubt that I take care of myself. I am scared s***less to think of ending up in the ambulance again. I have tried cutting down on my carbs. I have not injected in that area for 3months now. I have done 250-300 sit ups a day. I still run 3 kilometres 2-3 times a week .
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 5 years old. She has been giving NPH with Humalog. It hasn't been working much though because she's high most of the time even when we watch what she eats and exercises. It just doesn't make much sense why the NPH isn't working anymore. She's on a sliding scale for Humalog and she gives a shot of 40 units of NPH in the morning.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosised with Type 1 Diabetes Aug 2008. We have learned how to inject insulin and check her blood sugar numbers. We keep her on a pretty strick diet to ensure that we keep her Blood Sugar Numbers between 80-180. The past two days she has been very low. We have tried to make sure that the insulin that we give her is only enough to cover the food that she has eaten. However, just today, she woke up with her blood sugar #s at 64. She ate about 32 carbs for breakfast.
776302 tn?1241091853 To answer your question. It seems to work fantastically for diabetes management. My daughter, 27, has type 2. Her blood sugar was always 400-500. No insurance so no insulin or meds on a consistent basis. She started on the HL program, shakes & diet and within 1-2 weeks, her sugars are around 200 consistently. Not perfect, but it's a huge change for the better. I am also type 2 diabetic. My #s have run around 250-350 even with 125 units of Levemir a day.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
