Levemir dosage units

Common Questions and Answers about Levemir dosage units

levemir

Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn It was just unreliable in that it would sometimes leak with injection so I never knew if I was getting the proper dosage. I switched to Levemir (flex pen) a couple of years ago, and it has been fine. Both Lantus and Levemir are the peakless insulins. They provide your "background coverage" all day long (24 hours). When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.
Avatar f tn My friend just took 6 units of Levemir instead of her normal Humalog. What should she do now?
20693191 tn?1503884408 She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough. During the day my ratios went from 1:7 to 1:6. Still, my readings were too low in the morning, when waking up.
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
Avatar m tn Hi, the length of time of vial of generic insulin depends on what your insulin dose is. For example. A vial of insulin has 1000 Units. If you are taking say 50 units a day, then this vial will last for 20 days. I used mixed insulin in the past, and while it can be quite effective, because it is a fixed amount of both medium and short acting insulin, you will need to eat on schedule to avoid going low.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently changed my long acting insulin from lantus 90 units at night, to toujeo 90 units. Since taking toujeo I have gained 8 pound in 3 weeks. I'm so not happy. Lantus I didn't have that problem. I just had hip surgery so I can't move around as much. The doctor is like your making excuses about gaining weight. I follow a vegan vegetarian meal plan I'm not making excuses. I haven't gained weight in two years. I've been losing. She is pissing me off.
Avatar m tn Also, you mentioned that you are taking 500 units of Insulin. That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.
Avatar n tn I am suppose to go to 100 units but usually just go to 30-40 units. Still only keeps semi hard for 30 minutes or so and then another hour just fat but flacid. Not sure why such a strong dose does not work.
Avatar f tn I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn For example, I eat about 30 g of carbs per day. My basal is about 20 units of Levemir. My bolus is very little and i use 0 - 5 units per day on most days.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic 2. Taking Levemir 23 units at night. 13 unit humalog in every meal. Sugar is not very well controlled yet. But does not go above 10 mmol/l . I feel shortness of breath, if I walk or quickly come in the bed. Before 6 months EKG was done and no problem.
Avatar n tn I havnt seen a lot of results yet.
Avatar n tn s Benzathine penicillin G 50,000 units/kg IM, up to the adult dose of 2.4 million units, administered as 3 doses at 1-week intervals (total 150,000 units/kg up to the adult total dose of 7.2 million units). Talk to your doctor about what dose is best for you. were you properly diagnosed or did you have pcn for something else and are just wondering if it would've covered syphilis too?
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
1111143 tn?1259092353 She told me to inject 20 units just before bed, increasing it by 2 units each night until my morning fasting level is 120 or below. I'm already up to 45 units, but my fasting level this morning was still over 300. How much is too much insulin? The pen only goes up to 60 units in one shot. It appears to me as if this insulin is having little to no effect on me. Any insight would be very appreciated. Thanks.
867582 tn?1311627397 2 pills of 50,000 units of vitamin D twice a week for 8 weeks. Then he wants me to take 4,000 units of D per day. From your experience, is this a safe dose for an older person (early 60s) to take? Do you advise monitoring liver function tests, D, and calcium levels during the first 8-week period when I will be taking 100,000 units of D per week?
Avatar f tn what is the dosage for humalog for the number of carbs consumed? Such as 90 carbs how many humalog units.
Avatar f tn 2 I have also lost 49lbs without trying over the last 4 months. I take insulin. 30 units of levemir in the a.m. and 12 units of Novolog before meals. Could any of this have anything to do with my diabetes? I have had other tests and surgerys in the past. Went off the Depo shot 2 years ago after being on it for 9 years. My GYN said something about autoammune and diabetes but didn't understand ( he talks quick, lol ) I would really appreciate any input!! Thank you!!
652899 tn?1284047173 I started with 25 units of Lupron in the morning while still on BCPs, then when I started the other meds, Lupron was reduced to 5 units. I did 75 units of Menopur and 375 units of Follistim each night. I had 14 decent follicles (14-18mm) two days prior to retrieval. 11 eggs were retrieved, but only 4 were at the right maturity. ICSI was done on all 4. 3 fertilized and 2 made it to day 3 with 8 cells and grade A. Official BFP from doctor 15 days after retrieval.
Avatar n tn I have major swings. Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking. I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500. I think the Lantus is not lasting 24 hours.
189192 tn?1261341628 I'm on follistim AQ cartridge 300 units and I take 75 units a day so there should have been approx 4 doses in the cartridge. The nurse told me there might be a little extra, but there was actually approx another 125 units still in the cartridge. I'm concerned I might not have been getting the full doses or something. Anybody else have a large amount left after their last dosage?
1856494 tn?1340542614 5 days is the same as 60,000 units once per week. When my doc increased procrit to 60,000 units per week I was still crashing by the 5th or 6th day and found that 40,000 every 4-5 days worked much better. As you said it one tough ride, but worth the SVR!
704262 tn?1247674638 I just started taking them like this about 6 weeks ago. I really like them!!! I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80. I've had it drop as low as 53. It was soo scary!!
