When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
RL has given you sage advice. I agree with it. If changing the time of your injection according to your doctor's suggestion (after you talk to him) doesn't help, you may want to ask your doctor if there is a type of insulin that will match your body's routine better. There are many available types, and all have slightly different peak action and length of duration times. There may be one that matches your own body's clock better. We wish you the best.

It would be difficult for me to tell based upon the little information you have given. Also, you mentioned that you are taking 500 units of Insulin. That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.

What were the reasons explained to you by the medical practitioners to "add to my Diabetes Type II meds regime" two orals and one injectable insulin? What meds are you currently taking? W/o knowing you medical history it would be hard to answer your first question. As for the second ?, what do you mean by non-reversable step?
It was working so well for me previously. I went to a new endo about a year ago, and he suggested I try Levemir instead of the Lantus. Once I started the Levemir, I noticed a marked improvement with more consistent bg levels. I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
sometimes my husband said when he come to bed ( he works 2nd shift i work 1st ) i am soaking wet how do you stop this cycle? if i would wake up to eat in the nite then it will break my sleep up and then i`ll be to tried for work! i can`t do that i`m in qc i insect test stripe to check blood sugar levels and we all don`t what bad test strips do we!

It began with chills at night, severe dry heaves, (unable to throw up due to reflux surgery) and diahhrea. My doctor said he thought I had a virus. I could not figure out what was going on. I usually gave myself shots in the upper stomach area, so I moved the shots to my legs with no improvement. I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away.
