Insulin use is difficult to explain, you need to talk to an MD that knows how to administer Basal/Bolus insulin therapy. And or read the book "Using insulin by John Walsh" Levemir is used to regulate your fasting BG. and the fast insulin used to counter carbohydrate in the diet.

I also noticed with Lantus I get hungary allot but I do not give into the temptation of eating and I only eat twice a day but a heck of lot less then I had in the past. Will levemiere insulin get rid of that hungar pain and can I just use it like I use the lantus by taking 36 Units at night???.

Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.

When I started using 2u Lantus in morning, 2 weeks ago, I'd go low in the late afternoon/early evening, and then my morning sugars would be elevated ... 140s, 150s. So I split the dose: I'm now using 1.5u Lantus AM & 1u Lantus PM. It definitely works better than 2u QD, and I've checked the middle of the night - not a problem. The drug sheet for Lantus doesn't mention BID dosing, but my internet articles do. What are your thoughts, and is Levemir better for BID dosing?

the levemir is a long acting insulin so it will be in her system for 24 hours. what is here normal does of Levemir? when and how often dose she take levemir? She will have to check her BG more often and watch out for Hypos (low BG). make sure she always has her test kit and a fast acting carb (IE reg sugar soda, orange juice, glucose tabs...) to raise BG with her.

Opus88 I tried everything for Toonces, yes pumpkin included....fiber in cats with megacolon is tricky, it can sometimes absorb the water thus leading to even more constipation. Wet food over dry food is better but then you have to try and brush their teeth or give a few greenies (if you can afford it) to help with the teeth.

Since then he has been on many differnet variation of meds. Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337.

t follow the diet that your vet put you kitty on. My vet also recommends CD. I have had 2 cats that this happened to, in one the problem came back 2 or 3 more times but has been OK for a long time now. He does eat CD.
