I see the confusion
If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.

If this low dose of lantus twice daily is working for you without any problems, there is no reason to change it. Lantus is written as once daily but many doctors(including myself) and patients split the dose because even though it is supposed to be "peakless", it is not for some people. At low doses it works especially well as a split dose. Levemir can be used instead, and is more commonly written as twice daily.

When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
t giving him any the lantus people wants me on toujeo cause their patent was coming up so they stopped sampling it!!!! He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick. I am also drinking a lot of water. What else should I do? When will I start feeling better?
I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.

sometimes my husband said when he come to bed ( he works 2nd shift i work 1st ) i am soaking wet how do you stop this cycle? if i would wake up to eat in the nite then it will break my sleep up and then i`ll be to tried for work! i can`t do that i`m in qc i insect test stripe to check blood sugar levels and we all don`t what bad test strips do we!
I will have to go back and see if I can find that one. It was really interesting. Seems to be all upside down in the way it works as to the way you would think it did. I alwasys thought when stocks were way up, it was a good thing. I will have to see if I can find it or the link to it so ya all can have a look see.
I'm a mother of a T1 3yr old. I went through the same thing w/ him & just recently decided to just go back to the NPH & R. His numbers got so out of control his daycare removed him.
I was told that there my be a peak but his were crazy. Before the injection we'll say he was 120 an hour later would be 240. I got no answers. Just suggetions to switch to the pump.
He's very active also so I ruled that out just yet!
Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation, it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include stress/ anxiety, low blood sugar, micronutrient deficiencies, neuropathy, hormonal/ endocrine abnormalities, infections, inflammations etc.
I understand it has a ceiling cap and half life. How does taking 3 doses a day effect you? I mean you take 4mg. It is stored with a half life, when I take my next dose in 8 hours how much do I now have? I know that it caps what does that really mean, just you aren't getting anymore but it is still in you. Please help. I am curious as to how if any this would effect detoxing.
Always adjust a very small amount initially and see how that works for a couple days. If she is experiencing highs or lows two hours after meals than it would be her bolus and her Insulin:Carb ratio needs tweaking. You need to give a bit more information for us to go on. But if she is brand new to diabetes then I would definitely ask her doctor or endo to give her a starting dose and work from there. The important thing with self-adjusting insulin doses is to always be conservative.
