Avatar f tn hi everyone. i have mrsa, been taking clindamycin 300 mg every 6 hours for 4 months now. it cleared up, went to 2 pills a day, and they all poped up again. they are dark, and when i pop them, for the first time puss is draining. doc says don't pick, but they hurt and get bigger unless i pop them. for 4 months it was just blood. there is a hard dot in the middle it hurts, but then it is relief. any comments???Please....
Avatar f tn My husband and I have dealt with nearly 20 MRSA infections in the past two years. He was in the hospital and had a fifth of his lung removed at one point. He just went to a new doctor, and this one gave him Doxycycline and Prednisone. (Antibiotic and Steroids.) Since steroids suppress immune system functions, I think that's completely backwards. They were prescribed for the MRSA. Have you ever heard of sterioids prescribed to help with MRSA treatment?
577106 tn?1219839345 Many people with active infections are treated effectively, and no longer have MRSA. However, sometime MRSA goes away after treatment and comes back several times. If MRSA infections keep coming back again and again, your doctor can help you figure out the reasons you keep getting them." everyone is still telling me that my doctor is a quack and I will always have this infection. The doctor also told me that this was a very common infection and that it is a big problem in the schools.
Avatar f tn t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Do you know if Levaquin is effective against MRSA (the drug resistant type of staph)?
487969 tn?1249313291 There was also a kid who died here from MRSA pneumonia 4 months after he was treated for an MRSA infection under the arm. I mean, wow, can't be too careful. Also, my little girl is sick and she has been since I was in the hospital. I took her back to the dr yesterday and her ear drum sort of ruptured (she has a tube, but it is blocked in that ear). The ear drum is "deflated" .... the pedi's words... and there is puss collecting in her ear cannal. She is running a fever.
Avatar m tn Went to the Dr on 10/21, sent me for a urine test, but he prescripbed levaquin 500mg /day for 7 days because symtoms sounded like gonorrhea or chlamydia. Have now taken two of the levaquins, and the discharge has stopped, still some burning upon urniation, but have developed a dribble of urine after voiding. Is this dribble normal with gonorrhea/chlamydia, and will the levaquin clear the infection?
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn Panacing i took 1g of Zpack orally then got tested two days later I took another 1g pack. the results came back negetive. Still having the same feeling I took 500mg of Levaquin. Then I read that it was no longer recommended for GC so i took a 250mg shot of Ceftriaxone. Is this enough to kill Chlamydia and Gonorrhea? Could it just be Urthetitis and would these meds take care of that too? Need answers please.
Avatar m tn Eventually progressed to epididymitis and I was diagnosed with NGU. Treated with Doxy (no relief) and finally 30 days of levaquin which seemed to take care of the main pain but still had a little bit. Received unprotected oral sex again and same problems started all over again. Given azithro, cipro, and levaquin again and nothing cleared symptoms up. I tested twice for HIV at 8 months (oral test) and a year (blood test) and both were neg.
577106 tn?1219839345 I had a culture of an absess on the calf of my leg which recently cultured positive for MRSA. I am allergic to sulpha so I was perscribed tetracycline because the bacteria showed sensitive to it in the sensitivity test. I am having a lot of problems that I think may be from the tetracycline but no absolutely sure (nausea, rash, extensive swelling in my feet).
Avatar m tn Ok. I have been on and off antibiotics for mrsa for the last 2 months. Mostly Bactrim. Problem is the mrsa keeps returning. I have had 2 negative nare and armpit swaps. But they say it's still mrsa and the infection keeps coming back. Anyways. I continue decolonization and abx treatment. But I started to notice my stools getting loose. Then today I went to have the runs and all that came out was a little mucous and blood. Blood was bright red. No stool. Worried about c diff.
Avatar f tn I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Avatar f tn I have been on Rifampin, then Avelox briefly, then Levaquin for my Bart. I see my LLMD tomorrow and I will ask him how much longer he thinks I will need to be on abx for it. It has been 5 months so far.
Avatar m tn Penicillin(s) are generally prescribed in the treatment of strep throat. If your medical provider has ordered Levaquin I assume there are good reasons. Allergy to penicillin?? Levaquin is an effective ATB . Levofloxacin (trade names Levaquin (US), Tavanic (EU), and others) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone drug class. Levaquin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate.
Avatar n tn t cure it any more) for many meds. The ONLY recommended treatment now for gonorrhea is only one medication. http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2006/updated-regimens.
577106 tn?1219839345 t do a culture and she gave me 7 days of levaquin. The abscess healed up and nothing came up for a year. This just really throws me for a loop that the tetracycline isn't showing signs of being effective since it was sensitive to it. I hope we get this figured out really soon though. I can't afford much more of this and now with all these cholestorol problems coming up, all this could get very expensive very fast. I guess we'll just have to see what happens though.
Avatar n tn Not sure that Dr Handsfield will answer but will try anyway as related to this thread. This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.
Avatar f tn I have not heard of Primacine for the treatment of MRSA, usually antibiotics such as Clindamycin(oral), Cephalexin(oral), Vancomycin(IV) there’s some other IV antibiotics besides Vanco that can be given Vanco is just the most common with the highest success rate. I must add washing with hot water is good however you can wash with not so hot water and always add liquid bleach. Keep a spray bottle of equal parts bleach/H2O to use on surfaces.
Avatar n tn Is there a chance that the initial treatments for my girlfriend and I did not clear up the infection completely? Is Levaquin a treatment for these and would the extended course have cleared these up? I do not have the classic symptoms of either of these maladies but my urinary tract does not feel 100% right. Should I have a follow up STI screening? I appreciate any help you can give.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been able to fight this off with hep-c.My sis just found out she has mrsa and staph pneunomia. She is now in isolation! can you fight this with a bad case of hep-c?
Avatar m tn Yes, I've left a message for my doctor asking for an alternative. I'm waiting for is reply.
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn was prescribed levaquin 500mg for 7 days.
Avatar n tn of 07, came down with a MRSA infection, was treated for 30 days with cubisun. Towards the end of the treatment, swelling in my neck took me on a trip to the ENT doctor, who in turn sent me to a Endo, who came up with Hashimoto`s( under active thyroid).
Avatar f tn You are speaking half-truths. MRSA is susceptible to all antibiotics to varying degrees. Most likely the antibiotic was prematurely discontinued, or she has an infection elsewhere and reinfected herself when she rubbed her eye. Similarly helibactor pylori requres administration of three different antibiotics (tripple therapy) to eliminate the infection in the stomach from this troublesome organism.
