Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and mrsa

levaquin

Avatar f tn Hello, in 2005 my mother was diagnosed with MRSA due to drainage from a back surgery and one day she woke up not feeling good and when we got her to hospital MRSA had invaded her entire body and my mom almost died. However the MRSA caused her to loose her ability to walk, control her bowel and bladder and it destroyed the nerves and after having MRSA, she constantly got infections of other kinds.
Avatar f tn Levaquin a a pretty strong broad spectrum antibiotic. I was told it was effective against staff also, when I had a cut on my leg that wasn't healing. There is an article on webmd about leep and side effects. Type leep in the webmd search engine.
577106 tn?1219839345 Many people with active infections are treated effectively, and no longer have MRSA. However, sometime MRSA goes away after treatment and comes back several times. If MRSA infections keep coming back again and again, your doctor can help you figure out the reasons you keep getting them." everyone is still telling me that my doctor is a quack and I will always have this infection. The doctor also told me that this was a very common infection and that it is a big problem in the schools.
Avatar m tn Received unprotected oral sex again and same problems started all over again. Given azithro, cipro, and levaquin again and nothing cleared symptoms up. I tested twice for HIV at 8 months (oral test) and a year (blood test) and both were neg. Went to urologist and he said I had scared tissue that he removed and also performed varricocelle surgery. I have the same tenderness in my right testicle which I notice increases as I sit for long periods.
577106 tn?1219839345 m just looking for others who are dealing with getting through MRSA or who have had it in the past and are willing to share their experiences. This is a very complex diagnosis to understand. I've had people tell my you can get rid of the strain of bacteria (MRSA) although it is very hard to because it is so resistant and others tell me you can never get rid of it once you have it you will always have it.
577106 tn?1219839345 ve been getting them on my face, head, scalp, neck, and arms. The abscesses have been treated with bactrim and augmentin, and have some success. They would knock it down for several weeks after I completed the antibiotics, but then would come back and I'd have to get another run of antibiotics. Currently the infections/abscesses are back and I'm about to start my fourth round in less than 3 months.
487969 tn?1249313291 The surgeon said that since it was SENSITIVE to so many meds, I had MSSA (not as bad as MRSA) and that I was cured, the wound had completely healed and I was free to roam with the rest of society. The GYN said that since the staph was RESISTENT to any medication, especially Penicillin, I have MRSA and he did not know why the surgeon said otherwise. I also asked my kids' pedi - since one indicates the need to treat my children and the other does not.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
487969 tn?1249313291 I HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED A REAL ANXIETY ATTACK - well, make that 3! I have been in the hospital since Sunday - that really stinks b/c I don't have a laptop so was forced to watch TV the entire week. I am now further adicted to CSI Miami, but have gotten over LAW & ORDER, because I am sure I have seen them all. Still love the L&O SVU, but the original has definitely run its course with me!!!
Avatar n tn (I am circumsized but there is a lot of skin there) During this time I was on Levaquin 500 MG for Prostatitis. The red area started to crack and looked like dry skin and then became inflamed and extremely sensitive and raw. The skin peeled away and lasted for about 2 weeks. No Blisters etc. Saw a ureologist about the prostatis. Ibuprofen, Alpha blocker and Levaquin 500 MG for 6 weeks. After the thrird day of taking the medication (July 15, 2009) the same red area came back.
1237007 tn?1267979222 Schiano, Rene has been admitted twice to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with pneumonia (the first time) and now, with MRSA related lung condition. He is being treatd with Vancomyzion and Zofyn. Naturally this compromises his transplant, but I am very worried about the implications in terms of him being able to fight this off, and get better for his transplant. We have a living donor who is very close to getting the go-ahead from the team.
Avatar n tn He has 2 boys from his previous marriage. The youngest has a lot of skin issues and has contracted MRSA. Since meeting my husband, we have all had bouts with boils caused by MRSA. We've tried just about everything.. and we really just deal with them now. Get on antibiotics, put the mupirocin in the nose, etc. I had a couple boils over a year ago.. then didn't have anymore for probably 10 months.. then here in the past 3 months..
Avatar n tn I have had surgeries yearly since 2004. I had complications with my bariatric surgery and ended up with MRSA. I have had my gall bladder removed, abdominalplasty, and a c section. I am scheduled for a inner thigh lift next week. I haven't given it much thought about the dangers and my history of MRSA until co workers starting vocalizing their concern about my healthy and quite frankly dying. My surgeon is well aware of my history of MRSA and complications of surgeries.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar m tn Try going back to your doctor and ask about getting some blood tests done for strep, staph (MRSA), meningitis, and any other possible tough-to-kill bugs your doctor might think of. You should have those results in before your ENT appointment, which will make that appointment more productive. I would not take any more steroids if I were you.
Avatar f tn I have MRSA (found through colonization of urine due to UTI). I have had chronic UTI's for years now and my dr just treats them with antibiotics everytime and does an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious going on in there like cancer or kidney disease. I do not have a skin infection....I am experiencing UTI symptoms, fatigue, my whole body is very sore and achy especially my neck and shoulders and lower back. Have been through 2 weeks of Bactrim DS and three days after I finished meds..
Avatar n tn s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?
Avatar m tn I worked as an attendant, for people confined to wheel-chairs, and many of them had bed sores, or and MRSA. I wore gloves, and washed and washed myhands after work, but I did finally end up getting a rly painful sore right inside my nostril, that didn't reapond to amoxicillin, or prescription antibiotic cream, I had to take a high-powered antibiotic, and after that, I did change jobs. My advice would be careful to never pick your nose, because staph lives on finger-tips.
Avatar f tn Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.
Avatar m tn Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with MRSA and been treated three times rounds of Bactrim. I currently have an outbreak of the MRSA sores I need to pick up another round of Bactrim and now on the inside of my two index fingers the skin is peeling like a blister was there and then popped. The raw skin beneath hurts like a blister was there, however, there were no blisters on my fingers. Is this related to the MRSA?
Avatar n tn m afraid I agree with the Doctors on this. MRSA is a bacteria which lives mainly on the skin and in the nose in around 30% of the UK population alone. It is normally harmless because it can't get through the skin unless you cut yourself and even then your immune system would have to be weak to not fight it off. So, out of hospital, people are less likely to be affected than those patients in hospital with open wounds and weakened immune systems. MRSA would make them very ill indeed.
Avatar n tn The typical symptoms of prostatitis are fever, pelvic, testicle, or rectal pain, frequent and painful urination and ejaculation and incomplete emptying of bladder. In addition to the antibiotics, use medications to help relieve bothersome symptoms, such as alpha blockers to relieve urinary symptoms and anti-inflammatory medications for pain. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
