Levaquin and tendonitis

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and tendonitis

levaquin

Avatar f tn So now I'm on Levaquin for 3 weeks for a sinus infection. One of the side effects is tendonitis. I already have tendonits (both wrists) and everything has failed including physical therapy and steroid injections, i was referred to surgeon now as nothing has worked, have an appoint in November. Should I take the levaquin if i already have tendonitis? The sinus infection is bad saw ENT friday and put me on levaquin.
739070 tn?1338603402 You haven't been taking Levaquin to treat that p-neumonia have you?
Avatar f tn My shoulders are back to normal strength now and feeling great, its has been 7 months and not a sign of tendonitis yet. My orthopaedic ran x-rays and its gone.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, the side-effects of Levaquin and other quinolones such as Cipro can last for months or longer. I took Cipro 6 months ago and I'm still experiencing full body tendonitis, joint pain, muscle pain and weakness, tingling and burning sensations, stabbing pains, and more. The insomnia went away after about 6 weeks for me. I am a 36 year old female, and was very active and physically fit. There are some great forums you can check out on Yahoo that will be helpful to you.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Both levaquin and Cipro gave me 'tendonitis' ALL over the body. Not just the Achilles tendon! Not a rupture, which is what a lot of the articles are about---- 'just' pain. For years. Still bad. :( Not what everyone gets---- so until you try them you won't know. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn Good to see his symptoms improving. It could a side effect of levaquin, as this can cause swelling and pain in the joints, this is more so if he is prone for joint/tendon problems such as tendonitis and bursitis. It should resolve once the medication is stopped. Discuss these symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
798555 tn?1292787551 Same here. Took Levaquin not knowing about the tendonitis side effect and developed a severe case in my right achilles tendon that has never gone away, and it's been over 2 years. All my tendons are also so tight now that I injured my right elbow tendon 6 months ago simply lifting a medium rock, and it still hurts. No one warned me about the side effect...I'm still angry I wasn't informed before I took the medicine.
Avatar f tn Most recently i have tendonitis in both wrists and it is progressing despite steroid injections, volaren cream (have to be careful of oral nsaids d/t asthma), splinting and physical therapy. I have had raynauds type symptoms in hands over past 3 years and stiffness in elbows. I don't understand why i have tendonitis in both wrists affecting hands, can't wear jewelery and its getting worse. I see ortho again in 2 weeks, currently on prednisone 50 mg every day for 5 days.
Avatar f tn Need refills of lortab and compazine from pcp, feel like a druggie. Bilateral tendonitis, or what ortho said was tendonitis said i'm too young for arthritis, even though osteoarthritis was found throughout my spine. (I'm late 30's). Referred to second opinion for my wrists, hurts to do everything but pushing through, in tears by end of the day. History of IBD with surgery so NSAIDs hurt my stomach plus I have asthma which it exacerbates.
Avatar m tn He confirmed that I had biceps tendinitis and stated that it was likely due to a combination of the Levaquin and my high activity level, and that I should take if very easy for a few months and it should improve. For the next few months, I did very little rock climbing, and concentrated my weight lifting on lower body exercises. I could still do upper body pushing (presses, etc...) exercises, but any sort of pulling movement (pullups, rows, etc...) aggravated my biceps and forearms.
Avatar f tn Tendinitis and peripheral neuropathy happen frequently. Cipro (and Levaquin, Avelox, etc) are extremely dangerous antibiotics and should not be taken unless all other antiobiotics that could kiil the germs have been tried. Do your research before taking any of these drugs. The list of adverse drug reactions is huge with many people having been crippled from them. They affect every part of your body.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
Avatar n tn I have de quervain's tendonitis and have weak gripping and weak hands which is a problem when i hold my baby. is it possible to have back pains because of the tendency to use my body (while holding with my hands) to support the weight of my baby?
432312 tn?1265644974 I have had increasing Achilles tendon pain first on the right and then on the left for upwards of a year now. The tendon is sore and aches and it is swollen on the sides - and is warm. All signs of a tendonitis. BTW GOOD to see you! It is most likely related to the MS. I don't think it is "directly" a part of the MS, but it certainly is a result of it. I see two ways in which my A tendons are stressed. The first is that my gait is shot.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar n tn s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?
Avatar f tn Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.
Avatar m tn Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
4939681 tn?1361299299 I couldn't take levaquin because I got the side effect of tendonitis. I had to go up very slowly on rifampin because of herxing. Once on it, I was fine. IMO, it sounds more like Barts. What are your symptoms of Babesia? I had the classic air hunger, cough and drenching sweats. Ugh.
Avatar m tn This occurred while I had a sinus infection which was treated with levaquin and prednisone. The tendonitis was diagnosed by my PCP, who recommended reduced activity. After about 3 months of non-recovery, I saw an orthopedist who started me on physical therapy. The physical therapy was non-effective. Around this time I developed another sinus infection. It was initially thought to be pressure headaches, and a long 3 week taper of prednisone was prescribed.
Avatar f tn He suggested I might have diabetes but the blood work showed Vit d deficiency. Can this cause neuropathy? I also have stiff joints and have had calcific tendonitis this year. Is this all connected? Thanks for your help. I feel I need a more holistic approach rather than seeing a neurologist, rheumatologist and endocrinologist separately! ( as well as a shoulder specialist or the calcific tendonitis!
Avatar n tn The typical symptoms of prostatitis are fever, pelvic, testicle, or rectal pain, frequent and painful urination and ejaculation and incomplete emptying of bladder. In addition to the antibiotics, use medications to help relieve bothersome symptoms, such as alpha blockers to relieve urinary symptoms and anti-inflammatory medications for pain. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Sometimes you have surgery and bursitis or tendonitis sets in , most of the time a MRI and a EMG can tell you if you have nerve damage and muscle weakness.
Avatar n tn If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.
793305 tn?1493925518 I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!
