levaquin and strep

I was prescribed six 500mg Levaquin tablets to treat Strep Throat and a potential sinus infection. I only took 4 of the 6 pills since the side effects were getting to much to handle. I started on 3/12/2010 to 3/15/2010. Here were the side effects: -nausea -no appetite -headaches -dizziness -diarrhea -anxiety attacks -confusion, like you don't feel like yourself After I stopped taking it, my nausea and appetite returned gradually in the following two days.

I was treated anyway with levaquin because i was exposed to strep, but culture came back neg. I cleared up and everything was fine for a few weeks until I noticed one day that I still had a little swelling and one spot of pus on my left tonsil, but not really any pain. I went back to doctor and went on another cycle of levaquin. The swelling still remained and the spot remained too, until I took a Q tip and wiped it away myself (lol gross, but it was bothering me).

Received unprotected oral sex again and same problems started all over again. Given azithro, cipro, and levaquin again and nothing cleared symptoms up. I tested twice for HIV at 8 months (oral test) and a year (blood test) and both were neg. Went to urologist and he said I had scared tissue that he removed and also performed varricocelle surgery. I have the same tenderness in my right testicle which I notice increases as I sit for long periods.

About 10 years ago I had an almost identical situation and the doctor said I had prostititis and placed me on a 30 day course of Levaquin. This helped some and if I had symptoms they we very mild. This time I went to a urologist and my urine culture came back negative. He examined my prostate but did not seem to think I have prostititis. He did however place me on a 30 day course of Levaquin which I am about 1/2 way through.

Back of my throat is swollen. unable to swallow other than water, yogurt and warm/cold fluids for over a week. No strep throat. No tonsils. Any ideas what it can be? I have mucus in throat, nasal and left ear. Regular Dr. put me on Levaquin, Nexum and Tussicaps but doesn't know what's causing problem.

The white spots are some type of bacteria, but not strep bacteria. Keep taking your antibiotics and gargle with Listerine. Listerine kills the bacteria and helps kill the bacteria on your tonsils. If your throat does not improve, see your doctor for a different antibiotic. Antibiotics that treat resistent bacteria are Cephalexin generic for Keflex and Levaquin.

Will swab of throat test positive for gonorrhoeae if she has been on Leviquin for 3 days? Is Dr. checking for strep and would not test for gonorrhoeae since I didn't tell her? Do the improved symptoms mean she is cured? We have both been on antibiotics for 6 days now with no sex. Are we contagious? Should we be tested before resuming sex? How long do we wait? Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.

Was so bad I thought i had strep. went to dr again. she called me ENT dr and they decided 14 days of Levaquin. Did ok for 2 days. But then since 9/16 I was sick. drainage I assume now in lungs. can't breath. can't move and cough so bad that my body hurts even when i am not coughing. Do I need to go back to dr? or since I have just taken 7 days as of today just keep taking and hope it gets better. I have had phenomena before 4 times and hospitalized for it.

Also i was on antibiotics for strep about 2 or 3 times during window period and possibly at the time of testing aswell...mainly AZITHROMYCIN .... My question is that can these medicines i mentioned alter the cmia test outcome of hiv if i was taking these medicines during testing..... like give a false negative possibly???

I went to the doctor and was neg. for strep. I got some antibiotics and some viral medicine but it hasnt been getting any better. all i have been able to eat is jello and popcicles. How long did it take to go away? what did you take or do?

You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.

However, that the problem apparently appeared or continued after Levaquin and Zithromyax is strong evidence against NGU, and indeed against any STD as the cause. If that symptom continues, you should return to a health care provider, preferably the same one who managed your apparent prostatitis last year. s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?

Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.

Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.

I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.

I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!

At this point I still had a bit of swelling in the testicle and spoke with my urologist and was prescribed another course of levaquin. ive taken it for 7 days now and see that i am still having the clear discharge and have some discomfort. also, i was also treated for a mycoplasma pnemonia infection about 3 weeks prior and was given clarithomycin for 10 days. i went to a new doctor, because I just moved out of state, and am waiting the results of a urinalysis.
