I was prescribed six 500mg Levaquin tablets to treat Strep Throat and a potential sinus infection. I only took 4 of the 6 pills since the side effects were getting to much to handle. I started on 3/12/2010 to 3/15/2010.
Here were the side effects:
-nausea
-no appetite
-headaches
-dizziness
-diarrhea
-anxiety attacks
-confusion, like you don't feel like yourself
After I stopped taking it, my nausea and appetite returned gradually in the following two days.
I have no idea what's going on with my tonsils. Three days ago I started to have a terrible sore throat. I didn't think much about until it didn't go away and it didn't feel quite like a sore throat. For one the pain wasn't where it normally would be. I started to panic when I finally looked in the mirror and saw white spots all over both tonsils. I went to the doctor and they told me I didn't have strep.
I was treated anyway with levaquin because i was exposed to strep, but culture came back neg. I cleared up and everything was fine for a few weeks until I noticed one day that I still had a little swelling and one spot of pus on my left tonsil, but not really any pain. I went back to doctor and went on another cycle of levaquin. The swelling still remained and the spot remained too, until I took a Q tip and wiped it away myself (lol gross, but it was bothering me).
I went to my Internal MD and he put me on Medrol dose pack and Levaquin. This initially helped w/ the mouth ulcers but the one down my throat got much worse. I was given a Celestone inj and put on Orapred. Also taking Pepsid. Throat neg for strep and mouth ulcers neg for Herpes. This helped for about 3 days but then the pain has come back. I have also gotten a few more ulcers to my tongue and some of my gums are swollen. I have lost 9 pounds since the start of this b/c of the pain to eat.
Welcome to the STD forum. You undoubtedly mean HSV (herpes simplex virus), not HPV (human papillomavirus).
Oral infections with HSV-2 are quite rare. Most likely your commercial partner doesn't have genital herpes (most CSWs don't have it); and if she did, the odds are small that she was shedding the virus; even then, the mouth and throat are not highly susceptible to HSV-2; and finally your symptoms don't sound like a new HSV oral infection.

Hi I am experiencing the same kind of symptoms, with dry mouth, and really bad taste in my mouth, And peeling on the roof of my mouth, and severely chapped lips all of the sudden, after giving oral to my boyfriend as well So I started researching cuz i had the sore throat cold chills and body aches so it scared me cuz this was three days after I had given Oral, and I was worried I had caught something from not protecting myself with him.
About 10 days later I developed a sore throat and it looked like blisters as those similar to strep throat. I went to the doctor and she said it was allergies and the drainage down the back of my throat. I have never had a sore throat last this long. Could it be gonorrhea of the throat or acute hiv symptoms? I have had some fatigue, but it seems to come from anxiety over this. She checked my lymph nodes and said they were fine. Any help would be appreciated. The strep test was negative.
By 9/14 I was still really bad. but rather then sore face and headaches I had sore throat. coughing. Was so bad I thought i had strep. went to dr again. she called me ENT dr and they decided 14 days of Levaquin. Did ok for 2 days. But then since 9/16 I was sick. drainage I assume now in lungs. can't breath. can't move and cough so bad that my body hurts even when i am not coughing. Do I need to go back to dr?
I was told that I probably had strep throat although I was never tested for anything. The doctor said I should just rest and the z-pack should clear everything up. It did not.
I never really recovered from this and continued to feel sick. I went to a different doctor around the first-second week of Dec 2009 and I was given steroids. I took all of the pills without missing a beat and felt GREAT! Two days after I had finished the pack (Christmas 2009) I was right back to where I started.

I have also gotten a few more ulcers to my tongue and some of my gums are swollen. I have lost 9 pounds since the start of this b/c of the pain to eat. Another symptom that I am thinking is related is that I have gotten a severe area of inflamation around my anus. Does hemorrhoids cause this??
Labs for ANA,B12,CBC,BMP,LFTs were all normal. CRP was 3.
t related to strep and the timing and combination of how all my symptoms came together seems odd to me, like not how a normal case of strep throat would be. If theres anyone out there that has medical experience or knows what there talking about and can help me I would be very thankful! please help me and thank you in advance for all that do help me.
s day. It started with a sore throat and swollen glands in my neck but no fever. It has progressed over the months to a headache with severe dizziness which was thought to be a form of viral meningitis, fatigue, constant elevated liver enzymes, slight hypothyroid that I have to take synthroid for. I have have seen a ENT who believed it wasnt somthing with my ears, nose, or throat, also an Endocrinologist who believed my im not truely hypothyroid.
Definately watch her symptoms. Basically, if you have an STD on/in your genitals and oral sex is givin, it can always be transferred no the matter the disease. Even if your wife has a yeast infection and you preform oral, you bet your butt 8/10 you'll have throat/mouth thrush. You can even get genital herpes in your mouth & throat. Everything is very transferrable.
Had an UTI and hence was put on levaquin. After the 8th day of taking levaquin, i had the problem of not able to swallow food.. Stopped levaquin and UTI went away. Since then, i had a feeling that something is stuck in throat and particularly at nites, i was not able to sleep properly. had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that..
Tingling in my fingers and toes, burning feelings throughout, etc. I was pretty much tested for everything including - influenza, strep throat, mono, B-12 deficiency, HIV, etc...all NEGATIVE! So, of course I was worried thinking about HIV ars and what not so I got tested again at 13 months via rapid test and it was NEGATIVE as well. The only exposure I could think of was 3 weeks before my illness making out with a stripper in las vegas...not smart i'm sure.
I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
Cipro for 2 weeks still in pain. Then switched to Levaquin for 10 days. While still on the cipro I began to feel mild muscle aches. After 4 days of Levaquin my muscle aches and joint pain increased. I stopped the pill doc's orders
2 weeks later on no antibiotics.
As far as the concerns go regarding strep throat....Consider your drinking water a source. We were on well water and were informed that the constant strep throat infection my kids had could be coming from the water they were drinking. Strep can be passed through water. Ever since we have been on bottled water we have been in the clear.
