Levaquin and skin rash

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and skin rash

levaquin

Avatar n tn My 65 y.o mother recently started getting a rash that began on her upper chest and has spread all over her body-head, face, arms, legs, hands, buttocks, legs. It starts out like a red discoloration on the skin and progresses to small open sores, not blisters. She had a severe allergic reaction to levaquin back in september, but recent rash did not begin until feb. She was taking macrobid for kidney infection in jan. but rash did not begin until feb.
Avatar m tn I woke up one morning with looked like insect/mosquito bites on BOTH of my arms right above my wrists. Over the next few days it turned to a rash that spread up my arms to my elbows, stopped mid elbow, jumped up to my neck, and now i have the little bumps that come before this rash on my upper chest and mid inside thigh. The bumps happen first, then the rash follows. Doc took a look at the rash and said "looks like its poison ivy" and gave me prednasone and levaquin yesterday.
Avatar n tn I am 8 weeks post a preventative bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I had immediate recontruction with silicone implants and Alloderm. I did not have expanders and went from a DDD cup down to a C cup. About 3 weeks after surgery I had a small area on each breast (at the point in which my vertical and horizontal scars met) that would not heal and became infected. I went back on Keflex (I took it as a preventative measure for two weeks after surgery) as well as Levaquin.
Avatar f tn I was told that some people are particularly likely to experience these side effects on Levaquin and that we tend to get hid pretty hard with them. Tell your doctor about every symptom and enlist his/her help in treating them (symptomatically or at the source) and in remembering to prescribe a different drug if there is a next infection. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.
Avatar n tn s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?
Avatar m tn Also, I know levaquin is good at clearing up skin issues, would the levaquin have slowed a rash outbreak? I have a single red zit like blemish on my right neck and a single one on my left, no real other skin issues. Would the Levaquin hold skin rashes at bay or any other symptoms of ARS?
Avatar f tn is there a way to reduce or remove the large scale blackening of my skin, and is this a common side effect of long term antibiotics, such as minocycline or levaquin? Is there a better oral antibiotic (than minocycline) for trteating staphaureas? Should I accept this discoloration?
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be an allergic reaction to the Macrobid called hives. It is listed as one of the possible side effects of the drug. Vaginal itching and discharge is also a listed side effect as also rust or dark colored urine. ref:http://www.drugs.com/macrobid.html Hives are red, itchy welts or swellings on the skin that often come in clusters. Hives can appear anywhere on the body, cropping up either in one small area or covering large patches of skin.
Avatar f tn its starts like a red rash on feet legs and arms then after about 2 mouths it goes brownish in color but it is not scaly like psoriasis
Avatar m tn I was prescribed six 500mg Levaquin tablets to treat Strep Throat and a potential sinus infection. I only took 4 of the 6 pills since the side effects were getting to much to handle. I started on 3/12/2010 to 3/15/2010. Here were the side effects: -nausea -no appetite -headaches -dizziness -diarrhea -anxiety attacks -confusion, like you don't feel like yourself After I stopped taking it, my nausea and appetite returned gradually in the following two days.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.
428506 tn?1296557399 ve been treating for almost 4 years and at times question if I can still really have active infection. The rash was a sign to me that I have been on the right track all this time, even if my improvement has been slow. I paused my Lyme treatment for the surgery, but I could tell the cipro was making my Lyme & co symptoms stir. Now that I'm done with the post-surgery cipro I am going to give myself a little more time to feel stronger before resuming treatment.
Avatar m tn ve had diarrhea for the past three and a half months (off and on) following a prescription of the antibiotic, Levaquin. I have not noticed any blood but do have minor abdominal and upper left stomach pains, sometimes to the point when I go to the bathroom I get chills/sweats and dizziness. When it first started I began eating Activia which helped solidify my stool but did not fix the problem. A couple weeks later I began taking a probiotic, which helped but did not fix the problem either.
Avatar n tn I was on Levaquin (along with normal diabetes and high cholesterol medicines) and I woke up and had big bags under my eyes, a sandy feeling to my skin there and a pronounced red line under each bag that looked like someone had slit it with a razor blade. Despite stopping the Levaquin, it has persisted for a number of days. Can you provide an explanation of what is happening?
Avatar f tn joint pain, pain in back and shoulders, terrible ear aches, ringing in the ears, diarrhea, cold hands and feet, eye and skin problems, etc. I had them all and then some. Igenex is the lab that finally confirmed lyme (although the doctor already "knew"). My doctor did a test called the flourescent light test. I don't know if it has another name. Good luck to you and please let us know how everything goes.
Avatar n tn The cough has only seemed to gotten worse over time and they have now prescribed me 500mg levaquin with the same diagnosis. I have no redness, bumps, rash, etc. Is there any chance that these symptoms are related to an oral STD. There was no fluid exchanged so maybe that helps some. Should I have anything to worry about? Should I go get a complete STD test done at a clinic? Please help me as I am concerned.
Avatar n tn She ordered labs including blood chem, cbc. She could plainly see swelling and bruising and skin tender to touch. I was a 7 or 8 on the pain chart trying to move my rt leg. so, she ordered xray of the groin area which was negative. concerned about a possible blood clot, she ordered a doppler ultrasound of both legs...negative (thank goodness), and then a CT of the hip which was reason I could not move my leg horizontally outward. She was concerned about a pathological fractures in the hip.
Avatar n tn The description of the lump you have provided could be a benign tumor known as a lipoma ---a collection of fatty tissue located between the skin and the underlying muscle layer. They are slow growing and usually do not cause discomfort, but if they are located in sensitive areas may be painful as they grow in size. They do not require treatment unless they cause increased discomfort. Lipomas can be removed if necessary with a simple procedure.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar m tn Any of the many causes of skin rash anywhere on the body sometimes can affect the genital area; and many skin conditions other than herpes come and go in a recurrent pattern. If you have not seen a dermatologist, that seems the logical next step -- preferably at a time there is visible rash. In the meantime, I am quite certain that neither herpes nor any other STD is the problem. I hope this helps start to sort things out. I'll be interested to hear what a dermatologist says about it.
