Avatar m tn As far as I know, these are the only treatments - "Watchful waiting About 85 percent of the time, kidney stones are small enough to pass during urination. This occurs usually within 72 hours of the start of symptoms. The best treatment for these small stones is to drink plenty of water (as much as 2 to 3 quarts per day), stay physically active and wait to pass the stone.
2081455 tn?1332179587 I have been passing kidney stones since 2006. I recently saw a Urologist in November of 2011. I was told I had 2 large stones in my left kidney and a few small ones in my right kidney. I went to the Urologist because I had been experiencing terrible pain in my left kidney. In December I had my left kidney cleaned out by laser through the urethra. It took over 3 weeks to recover and it was the most terrible pain I have ever felt. They did not put a stent in.

Avatar n tn Hi there, Kidney stones are common these days. A stone usually stays inside one of your kidneys, it usually doesn't cause a problem unless it becomes so large it blocks the flow of urine. This can cause pressure and pain, along with the risk of kidney damage, bleeding and infection. Smaller stones may partially block the thin tubes that connect each kidney to your bladder or the outlet from the bladder itself.
1223946 tn?1281395958 To date I've had 5 stones I can't pass them as they get stuck I've undergone removal by scopes/ laser and basket removal. I researched this and discovered a number of patients to have a higher risk of malabsorption of oxalate. What can I do to stop this occuring. I follow the rules drinking plenty of water 2 ltrs a day which is hard when you've got a small stomach! Avoiding foods high in oxalate, etc. (protein foods is one of the food groups) which I can't avoid.
Avatar f tn My father has kidney stones in both kidneys. He has undergone both laser surgery as well as actual removal surgery to take care of the bulk of them. As of his last ultrasounds/x-rays, there are still stones present, but they have not been causing any problems. As of yesterday, he has been presenting with blood in the urine. Is it likely that the stones could be causing this blood, even without pain?
Avatar n tn did UltraSound can help to detect kidney stones? i've just completed the ureteral stent removal for the final step of kidney stone treatment. really had a hard time for the past 1 month.. i feel so bad to cause a trouble to my family: they have to take leave to send me to hospital, they have to use their money for treatment that was exceed my insurance allowance. i can say, from the passing kidney stones until the removal of stent, i was suffer so much!
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar n tn 2 days after the removal of the stent we contacted the urologist because of extreme pain again in the kidney and cramping in the abdomin that came on in a matter of minutes. We went back to the doctors office and was told this was expected and he was given another shot of voltarin. We went home and he slept for 12 hours and woke up fine. Now 2 days later again and he has the same pain in the kidney and cramping in the lower abdomin.
519976 tn?1250508565 This past year has been particularly bad, and this past fall I was having stone removal procedures almost every month, either Holmium laser or lithotripsy. Whew, so much for history. My question is this: I frequently have aches and twinges in my right kidney. They are intermittent and last sometimes for a couple of days or an afternoon. Of course, when the pain is intense it's always wound up to be a stone.
440193 tn?1293814117 I have been struggling with the effects from kidney stones for the last six weeks.I had laser treatment through my utrehra( spelling) up through the kindey in then into the kindey the doctor blasted the stones they were 5 c.m. and 4c.m some of the biggest stones my doctor has every worked on,She could not flush out the majority of the dust particals and the smaller stone remains because I was bleeding so much so she left a stent in.

Avatar n tn I had laser kidney stone removal 2 weeks ago. During the process I was cometely out. If any dr wants to perform this procedure while you are awake I would advise you to seek another opinion. When i woke up only pain I felt was in my penis it was swollen 4 times its normal size. The nurse kept me comfortable with morphine. I was required to pee before I was released and let me tell you! This was so painful it burned soooo bad. I had to sit down to pee for the next 3 days.
Avatar n tn Last year EWSL was attempted 3X to remove small, stubborn stones in my right kidney. Stones were not blocking the ureter but were causing pain for months. After 3rd attempt at EWSL it was decided to try laser treatment cystoscopically. This was "partially" successful. Some of the stones were removed, some he was not able to reach. I was left with a stint which came out before I made it home from the hospital.

Avatar m tn Hope everyone gets better. Yes stent removal is *ell. External stents are far worse than internal. And after 50 kidney stones I have a whole lot of answers or help. Yes I have had spasms with internal and external stents in. Yes stones DO hurt when they move in Kidney and Do hurt in Bladder when they move. Yes I believe Radiologist are not accurate when reading IVPs, CTs, Ultrasounds, etc.
Avatar m tn Later I learned that somehow it is not that easy as we would assume to open the kidney and look for stones inside. Plus 2 weeks after my surgery I was producing stones and sand in my kidney (the only one left). It is too soon for any type of surgery and I would not think you are ready for that.
Avatar n tn The urologist who treated me said that there was no exit strategy for this stone, that it's not going anyplace and punching a hole in my flank to remove it would result in the death of the kidney. I have read about laser and laproscopic techniques to remove kidney stones. In your opinion would these techniques would be a reasonable option for me, or should I accept the "no exit strategy" diagnosis and just learn to live with it?
440193 tn?1293814117 This is a new "path" for me.As you can read in my last blogs I was left wondering if I was going to die from a brain tumor, had another T.I.A. or as it always seemed to end up,me stuck in a office across from a guy who is more concerned about his golf get away, and his missed cell phone calls then my mental "well being" , did I mention he was also twenty minutes late to "our" consultation .
Avatar f tn I have a 1.2 cm by .9 cm stone in the upper pole of my right kidney (has grown since 2014) and has recently (over the last four weeks or so), created some flank pain. The pain can be anywhere from a 2 to a 5 and can last a couple of hours or duration of the day. The pain is NOT excruciating but is certainly enough to catch my attention. Doctor has run all the tests to get to this point and is offering 2 options: 1. Do nothing 2.
Avatar n tn to the doctors on this forum for putting my mind at ease before going in for my open kidney surgery to remove kidney stones that were in the pockets in my kidney. The doctors removed 1/3rd of my right kidney and I'm doing fine(except for the stent that i still have in it's irritating) The incision is only 6 1/2 inches long. If anyone else is having this surgery, theycan e-mail me and I will be happy to tell them my experience with this surgery. Once again thank you! You've been very helpful.
Avatar n tn I have had my gallbladder out 6 months, I have pain on right side upper abdominal under rib cage, pain in center at sternum, mucus and loose stool, regurgitated food, Had a sonogram and found enlarged spleen w/ fatty liver, blood work, prostate normal.CT scan done normal with no kidney stones, growths or masses.
162948 tn?1205256292 I had the mirena in for about 13 months & had it removed end of august to try to get pregnant. I had thought it was more immediate. I found out it can take 3-6 months for your cycle to return. my husband and I are pretty bummed because we would have removed it earlier (or never had it put in). Anyway, I bled a few days after removal (probably due to the removal) & then nothing until a couple days of brown spotting at the beginning of this month.
Avatar n tn 5) It is possible - it depends on what kind of stones were formed. You would be at higher than average risk of developing kidney stones in your right kidney.
