Lantus for feline diabetes

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus for feline diabetes

lantus

Avatar n tn I was on the lantus pens for years and never had a problem BUT that doesn't mean your not having a problem. There phone # is all on the box why not call them?
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know a formula for amount of Lantus needed for a basal dose vs how many units fast-acting you take per carb? I have major swings. Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking. I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500.
Avatar f tn I remember leaving my Endocrinologist office very lost and frustrated, having no idea about why I was giving me 15 units of Lantus for Basal and different shots for every meal. I wanted to learn to how do it, how to calculate so I could take charge of my own Diabetes. What I've learned after speaking with the Diabetes Educator (and we did the math together) was that in order to calculate a Basal and Bolus, there are some rules and are very easy to be followed.
Avatar n tn I don't know very much about the meds and dosing for Diabetes but if what your taking isn't lowering your blood sugar to a normal level you should really consult your physician. This can cause serious irreversible damage to your kidneys among other things. Make sure you are filling your diet faithfully. I have heard that cinnamon capsules can help with diabetes. You can ask your dr if it would help you in addition to your meds or maybe he may want to switch your meds.
Avatar n tn I have weened myself off Lantus Solostar insulin and have not taken it for months. I got my A1C's down from 12.2 to 6.9 in 3 months and normal BS every day. Ate healthy.. Well I have been very bad again and I went to lunch and had fried seafood and then a sundae at Dairy Queen. Mouth very dry and thirsty as anything. Checked my blood Sugar and it was 459. I took my Metformin early to try and bring it down. Can I take maybe 10 units of the Lantus to try and bring it down a little more?
Avatar n tn So, at that point, I had been on Lantus for 2 weeks, my doctor decided that it was not working for me and that I should switch back to NPH. With each meal, and actually any snack I have, I take NovoRapid. That basically works fine and I do not have any problems with that. I just can't seem to get my overnight and morning readings to be normal. If I take the Lantus in the morning - are the effects not wearing off by the middle of the night so I may still go high?
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Lantus insulin for my diabetes. Since I have started using the injections (6 months), I have experienced dry and burning in my eyes. My doctor suggested that I get my tear ducts plugged to make sue I have enough tears to be able to wear contacts. I have worn contacts since 1976, and this is the first major problems that I have had. I now have to wear glasses at all times; maybe once every two weeks I can wear contacts for 3-5 hours.
Avatar m tn There are lagitamet ways to control diabetes and BG and you dont have to pay for the info.
Avatar f tn I always took mine around 11 pm but off Lantus now that I am on the pump..Good luck just try and keep taking it at the same time or around the same time, nothing bad will happen!!
Avatar n tn I keep my lantus refrigerated and have tried hand warming it, but it still burns upon injection. I have been using Lantus for 2 years now, and in the past 3 months have experienced this. Is it possible I have developed an allergy to Lantus? The burning is almost intolerable. Or could it be a bad batch of Lantus? I am Type 1 times 27 years.
Avatar m tn m not sure if you live outside of the USA, but my understanding is that Lantus is NOT available for use in a pen here in the US. My daughter just switched to Lantus via syringe & Novolog via pen after 8 years on an insulin pump. Her diabetes educator just gave her the Lantus prescription 3 days ago & said it is not available in any other form. I have read that outside the USA, however, it is sold in pen format.
Avatar f tn ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
Avatar n tn Hi, If this low dose of lantus twice daily is working for you without any problems, there is no reason to change it. Lantus is written as once daily but many doctors(including myself) and patients split the dose because even though it is supposed to be "peakless", it is not for some people. At low doses it works especially well as a split dose. Levemir can be used instead, and is more commonly written as twice daily.
Avatar n tn I have type 1 diabetes and am on Lantus. I was wondering though what the difference between 70/30 and Lantus is. My understanding is that they are both long lasting insulins, but I don't know much else. Does anyone know?
Avatar f tn If you are taking Lantis it is because you have diabetes and your pancreas doesn't function normally. Lantis is needed to regulate diabetes and do the job of that organ.
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
Avatar f tn You need to give a bit more information for us to go on. But if she is brand new to diabetes then I would definitely ask her doctor or endo to give her a starting dose and work from there. The important thing with self-adjusting insulin doses is to always be conservative. One low or high is not a reason to adjust, a pattern of lows or highs is.
Avatar n tn I grew up on NPH and really had to watch for mid-day lows. Most doctors nowadays use Lantus alone as the long-lasting insulin and have given up NPH altogether because of the scary lows that often happen when it peaks. Most diabetics in America who take injections rather than using a pump use Lantus once or twice a day and a quick-acting insulin like Novolog before meals. We do not normally take NPH with the Lantus, for they do similar things.
Avatar n tn I take Lantus and I also take Metformin 500 mg. twice a day. I am on 20 units of Lantus and have taken Lantus for years. (I use to be on 40 units a day, until I lost 125 pounds) I have not been good about following my diet and I notice that my blood sugar readings have been higher. My fasting blood sugars have been higher than normal (around 175) but I know it's because I have been eating too many carbs and have gained 20 pounds.
