Lamotrigine blood levels

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine blood levels

lamictal

Avatar f tn s no evidence that lamotrigine decreases the effectiveness of the pill. The interaction is that the estrogen in the pill lowers your lamotrigine levels, which means you'll need a higher dose than you would off the pill. If you're really worried about pregnancy, consider a copper IUD or just use condoms with the birth control. I am on 200 mg lamotrigine and birth control pills right now.
Avatar f tn Im on celexa 20 mg for about 21 days, I also take trazodone 50mg And gabapentin 200mg 3x daily for the last week. Just started naltrexone 50mg as of today. My long time meds are for blood pressure... Amlodipine 5mg and lisinopril/HCTZ 20/25mg. Oh and lamotrigine 50 mg for the last two weeks. I quit heavy drinking a about 8 days ago reneeding hospitalization fot 4 days due to extreme withdrawal. Anyway as of today I'm noticing definite noticeable hand tremors.
Avatar f tn Hello, The normal reference ranges for lamotrigine are 2 – 20 ug/mL during chronic therapy. Detecting drug levels in the blood help in proper seizure control and reduction of side effects of the drug. It helps us in identifying whether the drug is in a therapeutic range or not. The decision of dosage adjustments depends on the doctor’s discretion and varies person to person. Do write to us again with more information. Take care and good luck!
505907 tn?1258369340 Yes a regular blood test is needed with lithium to check Lithium levels and Thryoid function - at the start its likely to be every 4-6 weeks and later every 3 months or so depending on your maintenance and how well you maintain theraputic levels.
Avatar f tn Yes, I quit all meds long ago. Thank you for providing some natural supplements and the thyroid suggestion. I'm just getting desperate and worried about my future.
Avatar f tn I am on both of these meds....it has been a year. I found they are the least in all weigh gain kind of meds...I did gain some weight at the beginning but then it just got there and stopped. As long as there is no break in these....it helps with cycling. Lamotrogine needs to be "upped" to a good level and monitored and the lith levels in your blood need to be tested to make sure you are good there as well.
Avatar m tn I'm currently on the combo. It's working alright for me. I still get frequent manic episodes and psychosis (I'm schizoaffective, but neither drug does anything for psychosis anyways) but I've only had one depressive episode in the last 5 years, and I'm a rapid cycler.I had about 10 depressive episodes in 2-3 years and they stopped completely when I started lamotrigine (well, apart from the one, but it was work related).
1806584 tn?1316208037 After a rather bad period they finally tested my lamotrigine levels and found out that I was at the low end of the therapeutic spectrum. And that's when it got raised to 150mg. Not everyone is the same, regarding meds. But yeah, I'm going to 200mg soon.
Avatar f tn A quick google of both meds reveals both can potentially cause tremors, though it's more likely with sodium valproate. Many meds can cause tremors, so you should probably have him see his psychiatrist to discuss whether this adverse effect is likely to be permanent or if a med change (whether in dosage or different meds) will solve the issue and make it go away.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar m tn I take 200 mg of the generic, Lamotrigine but I have taken as much as 400mg. I have never had a problem with mania from it. However, lamotrigine works best in keeping depression away and does little in deterring mania. The mania you have been having may have nothing to do with lamotrigine but because it doesn't do anything for it when it comes on. Other mood stabilizers, like lithium and Depakote work well for mania. I would discuss the option of adding one of them to the lamotrigine.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn Havent been in the sun. Ive been taking lamotrigine for about 2 weeks and I know its associated with some serious rashes. Went to GP when the rash wasnt this bad and she said its probably something viral and possibly the medication, talk to the person who prescribed the lamotrgine. Finally got a hold of prescribing nurse practioner who, over the phone, said to stop taking it and just take benedryl, it will be gone by this weekend. Benedryl is putting me to sleep but not doing anything.
7773352 tn?1394065574 Latuda should be weight neutral, and I think Geodon tends to be pretty good in that department.. Lamotrigine definitely is (unless you're REALLY special). I think most of the anticonvulsants are, with depakote being the exception rather than the rule. I think some people take metformin (a diabetes drug) with atypical antipsychotics, and it might help with the weight gain. I think it's an off label use though. Abilify is weight neutral for most people though.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm so sorry for your loss. That hurts! I had a huge amount of hairloss. But it wasn't from the bipolar meds, instead, it started when my blood pressure medication increased. My thyroid was checked and everything is okay with that. Most recently, I have lost some weight and my blood pressure medicine has been cut in half. My hairloss is to a minimum. My doctors also checked my vitamin and mineral levels in my blood. I was found to have a deficiency in vit. D.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Lamotrigine 25 mg, Zyrtec, Levothyroxine 75mg, and Atenolol 50mg. I started Lamotrigine (lamictal generic) 2 weeks ago. On day 9, I developed severe diarrhea and cramps. It was slowed down with 1 pill of Immodium, but after 2 days I decided to eat a "regular" meal and got diarrhea again. So it's been on an off for 6 days, and this morning it was worse than it was the first day!
Avatar m tn Talk to your psychiatrist about getting a lamotrigine serum level - 100 mg is often not an adequate dose. Talk to you psychologist about Acceptance and Commitment therapy. Second what Jaquta had to say.
Avatar f tn i was just wanting to know if lamotrigine and quetiapine can cause sore throats I've been taking these meds for 4 days and I started getting sick after day 2
Avatar f tn I have never heard of antidepressant mania passing, just getting worse. Have you switched up your mood stabilizer/anti-psychotic. Because sometimes it takes the right combo before it works. I have only ever been on lamotrigine (can't take Lithium due to previous kidney issues). As an antipsychotic I tried Risperadol - worked great - made me lactate - deal breaker. Seroquel - zombie. Geodone - anorexic, tired.
Avatar f tn I have vaso vagal syncopy which causes low blood pressure and a short pr interval that causes me to have an increased heart rate but neither are truly dangerous. What is a good medication suggestion?
Avatar f tn Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway.
