I understood from my family doctor (not a liver specialist) that Lamivudine has the least side effect and is the safest among other medicine types for husband and wife who wish to have children. And yes, I understand the "high resistance" issue, but given the pro and cons comparing to other medicine, it seems to me that is the best choice to start. Am I (and my doctor) correct?
I have chronic Hepatitis B and Lamivudine resistance last year. He gave me a document to read and I did a bit of research on internet on the side effect. My concern is the side effect especially on Kidney. Could you give me some advice if I should participate in the drug trial or stay with my current medicine Hepsera.
@kdboy sorry for the side effect of lamivudine that doctor is not hepatologist am a chronic carrier too from Nigeria if you are carefully you will develop resistance and worse your liver condition please don't go to anyhow doctor look for a good hepatologist you can call me on 09097490386
stop lamivudine immediately or switch to tenofovir, it is decades now lamivudine is not used because it can lead to cytopatic hbv mutations that cannot be control with any medication leading to cancer and cirrhosis despite hbsag negative, hbvdna undetectable and normal ast-alt, another reason not to use lamivudine is that it is even totally useless on hbv
the hbsag of the virus mutates to a form where the virus destroy cells directly even without replication

The majority of deaths (11 of 18 entecavir-treated patients and 16 of 18 adefovir-treated patients) were due to liver-related causes such as hepatic failure, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Five percent of patients discontinued entecavir or adefovir due to a side effect through 48 weeks of therapy.
Adefovir and lamivudine increased HBV DNA clearance at end of treatment versus placebo. Entecavir increased clearance versus lamivudine with inconsistent effect size. Lamivudine was less effective than adefovir in lamivudine-resistant patients and less effective than telbivudine in HBeAg-positive patients. Limited evidence suggested that HBV DNA clearance was maintained at followup off therapy ranging from 18-24 weeks after interferon alfa-2b, lamivudine, or adefovir administration.
I would like to know if it is a commune side effect of Hepatitis B or if Lamivudine could have such an effect.

I am currently taking Aluvia and lamivudine for a possible risk of HIV. I dont seem to have any side effects yet. I normally dont with medicines. But I am not planning on telling anyone. But my friends will notice if I dont share drinks with them when we are visiting. Will alcohol effect the drugs I am taking?
I am not a doctor but i can tell you lamivudine is the worst drug for hbv and just make damage.
lamivudine is not an hbv drug anymore, ban of it has been proposed already because it only worsen the infection
the only drugsare: tenofovir, peginterferon, entecavir, none is curative except two cases:
peginterferon when hbsag is less than 1000-1500iu/ml
sequential treatment of 3 years tenofovir or entecavir and peginterferon add on 1-2years (5years total)

I have been on lamivudine and adefovir for 4 years (after resistance to 6 years of lamivudine).I have developed renal tubulopathy because of the toxic effect of adefovir.my DNA is undetectable ALAT ASAT normal.My doctor advised me to take lamivudine every day and adefovir just one pill every 48 hours.He also thinks that he might put me on Baraclude(entecavir) monotherapy.What do you think? s one taplet, with T for tenoforvir and L for Lamivudine on the other side of the taplet. two in one. the Lamivudine as my Dr says will help fight strains the a resistant to tenoforvir. Am worried bc if I start this combo i can't go back to tenoforvir alone. has anyone used this combo?
