Common Questions and Answers about Lamivudine medication

epivir

Avatar m tn stop lamivudine immediately or switch to tenofovir, it is decades now lamivudine is not used because it can lead to cytopatic hbv mutations that cannot be control with any medication leading to cancer and cirrhosis despite hbsag negative, hbvdna undetectable and normal ast-alt, another reason not to use lamivudine is that it is even totally useless on hbv the hbsag of the virus mutates to a form where the virus destroy cells directly even without replication hbv cure is achieved only by sequen
Avatar n tn it is possible that you have developed resistance and may need to check a viral level and if (+) be switched to another medication. Resistance is very common with lamivudine use. a CT scan or U/s should also be checked.

Avatar f tn About one year ago when I conducted Hepatitis B profile, I had NON RELICATIVE INFECTION but about one year on lamivudine I am now REPLICATIVE. Please what does this suggest? I am planning to stop taking lamivudine because it gives me so much side effect ranging from stomach discomforts and back pains and general weakness. The doctor I met this time related all these complaints to lamivudine.
Avatar m tn I have Hep B positive for 15 yrs (since 1997). Was treated with Lamivudine ( Nov 2009 to Nov 2010). Feb 2012 test results shows HBV DNA 29426 copies/ml, ALT 54 U/L, Anti-HBe positive ( Competitive ELISA, Sample OD 0.116, cut-off OD 0.701), HBe AG Negetive, Fibroscan- CS(KPa) 1.7, IQR(KPa) 0.5. Do I need medication right now. I got a Liver doctor appointment in April 2013. Can I wait till April or I should find other way of treatment?
Avatar f tn I did some research and found that it is not good to stop medication, which is what I thought I would do after giving birth so that I can breastfeed. From what I can tell, I will probably be taking lamivudine. Will the medication that I will take during pregnancy harm my baby while I am breastfeeding if it is determined that I need to continue it for my own good? I found only one place online that even mentioned this and they said not to take it during breastfeeding. Please help!

Avatar m tn who is the crazy docotor who prescribed lamivudine/epivir, add tenofovir as soon as possible, lamivudine don t cure hbv and makes hbv mutations which can be untreatable and can make liver cancer even if hbvdna undetactable do add tenofovir as soon as possible, you have just worsen your condition with lam, it is not indicated for hbv anymore, only tenofovir (viread) entecavir (baraclude) interferon are to know if you are clearing you need hbsag quantitative in iu/ml and to know if you are saf
Avatar m tn Without taking any drugs, viral load was 22,000 in september 2009. 46,000 in december 2009. Doctor recommended lamivudine in January. Took lamivudine and by June 2010, viral load was undetected. have read in many forums that lam is not the best, approached my doctor with this concern and she sugessted tenofovir. Should i start tenofovir immediately, how should i start. Should i just abruptly stop lam and move on to tenofovir, should i use both and gradually stop lam after a few day/weeks.
Avatar m tn She has also been a patient of anemia. For the last 1.5 years she has been on lamivudine 100 after her hbv dna crossed 86 lacs. iu/ml in 2012.So far everything has been fine, the liver enzyme levels(AST/ALT/ALP) have nearly normalized, platelet count has increased. But one day ago she underwent a blood test and found that:Sgpt=206,Sgot=131,Alk. phosphatase=88,serum bilirubin total=0.9...While alk.
Avatar n tn He mentioned that my wife has to continue to take both Lamivudin and Adevofir until she has developed the antibodies. Somehow it is a catch-22 situation. According to the doctor, if she stops the medication, the virus count will definitely increase. However, if she doesn't stop the medication, it is almost impossible to have a baby and there is no endpoint to this treatment. I will check her e-antigen status as I do not have her medical report with me now.

Avatar m tn Hepatic decompensation was not prevented by lamivudine compared to placebo or entecavir compared to lamivudine in three underpowered trials. Hepatocellular carcinoma was not prevented in four studies with inadequate size and duration. In one RCT, analysis that adjusted for country, sex, baseline ALT level, Child-Pugh score, and Ishak fibrosis score and excluded five individuals who developed HCC within the first year of the study found a borderline significant effect of lamivudine.
Avatar m tn Before biopsy ultrasound was normal. Fibrosis was found 3/6 prescribed lamivudine since 2013.We dont have fibroscan in our city. the treatment was good my alt ast decreased to normal levels. But in June 2015 there was some problem with the ultrasound. It said slightly coarsened parenchyma. The other details was fine. Last month another ultrasound was done. This time slightly heterogenous parenchyma possibly secondary to hepatitis b. The other details were fine again.
Avatar f tn That is normal with oral antiviral, mined also jump from undetected to 598 iu/ml in one year after stopping lamivudine. my baseline viral load was around 11000, six months of lamivudine it came to undetected.

Avatar m tn BACKGROUND: Nucleoside analogues such as lamivudine for chronic hepatitis B have an excellent safety profile while patients are on therapy but reactivation flares occur in 19-50% of patients after stopping therapy, some of whom develop liver decompensation. AIMS: To describe and report three cases who developed fatal hepatitis B reactivation after stopping nucleoside analogue therapy.
