Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal and vision problems

lamictal

Avatar n tn I went off Depakote as soon as the vision problems occurred, and had to totally discontinue the Lamictal until the vision problems went away (resulting in a mixed bipolar episode). I went back on Lamictal, and soon returned to a stable state. A few days ago, I went on a run and pushed it hard. When I stopped and took off my sunglasses, I had double vision again - I walked back - and it took nearly an hour for my vision to return to normal.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.

Avatar n tn I take 400 mg of Lamictal and don't have any problems with it. When I first started taking it, I had those symptoms, as well as, stomach problems. They faded within a couple of weeks when my body adjusted. Lamictal has been a good mood stabilizer for me. It's worked wonders.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.
Avatar n tn i had a a ct, mri and spinal tap. the hospital took me off prestic, seroquel and lithium and the neurologist put me on lamital for both seizures and depression. also, i am taking invega and ativan for anxiety. the reason for my seizures is because of medicine. i lost my memory, use a cane and bit my tongue badly. caution: beware of anti-depressents--they can lower your seizure threshold. thank god i am getting better.
Avatar f tn has anyone had stomach problems with lithium and lamictal while takimg them at the same time?.....
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
735919 tn?1236444549 I've been on Lamictal since October, and it's been a godsend to me. It is slow to titrate up to therapuedic levels - but it's done a world of good. I'm about 85-90% depression free all the time. The difference now is, I get down if something external happens, like regular folks do, everyone gets blue at times.
Avatar m tn Even with lowering my dose of lamictal i have not had any emotional problems. so i do not think this is mental. I am more quiet and less energetic than i normally am but that is because this is depressing me and i feel like crap. with lowering the dose i actually feel less cracked out and moody then when i was taking 200mg and this problem i believe has improved in severity but not frequency if anything it has become more frequent. Lamictal used to help with these feelings.
Avatar n tn Recently I've been diagnosed with a bit of Bipolar Disorder. My doctor put me on Lamotrigine, a mood stabilizer normally used to treat epilepsy, seizures. I've experienced a little bit of blurred vision every now and then from it but wonder why I'm having a small trace of vaginal bleeding every once in a while. I'm on Portia as a birth control method and I haven't had my period for a while now.
Avatar n tn I'm currently on 300mg Lamictal, and no "zombie" problems here... my only issue is with the slight memory concerns it tends to give me, and the headaches I get when upping a dose [that only last for a day or two, at most]. I think on average the only fear I've heard otherwise is the deal with the 'rash' which can sometimes show up at the higher dosages, if not at the lower.
Avatar n tn Nebulizer treatments and oral inhalers are not helping, however last week she was admitted to the hospital for a video EEG and was taken off of lamictal during that time. Remarkably the cough stopped. I tried asking the doctors about this but they were more concrened with the seizures and just reminded me to watch out for Steven Johnson Syndrome. I am very concerned because she is back on the medicine and the coughing is back.
997928 tn?1252444237 I've done okay with lamictal, but lamictal and celexa, not so good. And now lamictal with wellbutrin, not so good. At least I think it's not the lamictal. I know my PsychNP put a big no in her notes regarding me and celexa.
Avatar m tn Occasionally he gets very stiff and paralyzed for a couple minutes at which point he does not lose consciousness. His Lamictal dose is getting increased but the major problems that we have are the following: He is some pretty significant speech problems. Is that related to the epilepsy and will that ever get better? He is a very sweet boy but sometimes he breaks down and cries for no reason. Is there a link there? Is there a chance that he will ever grow out of this?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed Bipolar II with minor depression and was put on Lamictal teetering up 25 mg every 2 weeks with 150mg Wellbutrin (Zyban) the aim was to reach 200mg and see how I feel, by the start of the seventh week, I got tiny itchy patches on my cheeks that flaired up after I took the Lamictal… so stopped lamictal, (remained on the wellbutrin) and went on an antihistamine (Atarax) for a 2 weeks 25/50mg, did some surface (72 hour skin contact) allergy tests and came negative for Lamictal so I w
Avatar f tn t have the headache pain, but I still have the tightness in my temples, problems getting a deep breath and the vision problems have stayed with me since the initial onset of the migriane headache, 4 weeks ago. My eyes are like I am looking through a snowy TV screen, and whatever I look at, bright lights being the worse, are "burned" on my retina and it stays there no matter what I look at. I have seen 3 neurologist who say, just rest and things will normalize, but it hasn't.
Avatar n tn My son is taking 200 mg. Lamictal for bi-polar he is having a real problems handling repetitive harmful thoughts. He is also smoking marijuana daily. Does marijuana interfere with the prescribed medication?
994257 tn?1266242692 Does anyone who takes Lamictal have problems sleeping??? I dream all night long and never feel well rested. I am constantly tired becasue of it. i can dream wake up then immediately fall back into the dream I was having. I am tired of looking like death because I have dark circles under my eyes. 501086 tn?1210123831 I would suggest you check out what your cap is and see if it is feasible for you to get these meds. I had to go off the Lamictal and remain on the Dilantin because of this and from the posts above wish I was able to try the Lamictal.
Avatar f tn The neurologist had seen cases of lamictal so he identified my problem. I was taken off Lamictal and a couple of weeks later I had the worse attack of all, things everywhere in my house were moving around 100X worse, I would have thought that if I had another bout with wiggling things it would be mild but no this was horrifying.
Avatar f tn The doctor put me on Prednisone 80 mg and within days the pain was gone and the vision problems cleared up within a couple of weeks. I have since tapered off the prednisone to only 10 mg a day. You may want to talk to your doctor about this or any other type of inflamatory disease that may be causing you this pain.
Avatar f tn I do know that all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects which are typically blurred vision, dry mouth and sometimes trouble urinating so you could speak to your psychiatrist about that as one potential cause.
Avatar n tn The Lamitctal gives me bad mood swing I snap into a rage very quick. Someone can look at me wrong and I turn on them and scream and yell for no good reason and the next minute I'm the happy normal person I am.
605458 tn?1539228808 I know my dr is going to suggest Lamictal when I go on the 10th. I don't like Lamictal but the drs like it for bipolar depression. I can't take antidepressants because they spur mixed and manic episodes and I'm already having those. I'm rapid cycling with serious depressions, possibly dangerous to myself depressions where my thought processes are about death and dying but my feelings are of a quiet euphoria, everything taking on a deeper meaning.
497950 tn?1255863927 I was already confused and clumsy so I wouldn't know if it does. It didn't make me walk any better that's for sure. I have a gel cast now and only God knows what else I hurt from that fall. It hasn't helped my confusion either. I don't know if it is age or just me. I do know my balance is off because of discs injured. My vision is not good either but I have had blurred vision. More like if you get mucus and rub it and finally get it out.
