I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?

I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.

lamictal has a warning in the side effect booklet about taking with birth control; yes, it can (and usually does) minimize your birth control effectiveness. might wanna talk to your doctor, though.

I am on Lamictal and Geodone. It is a good combination for me. Didn't get any side effects with the Lamictal. With Geodone I have a few side effects. One side effect is I lost a lot of weight. Which was good to begin with as I was a size 12 going on to 14 but I am now a size six. I really have to watch that I don't lose anymore weight. I'd like to gain some muscle tone too. I also have some agitation, or it increased what was already there. I alway fidgited now I do it more.

I do know that all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects which are typically blurred vision, dry mouth and sometimes trouble urinating so you could speak to your psychiatrist about that as one potential cause.

Your psychiatrist is not very thorough then. Lamictal has a lot more side effects than just a rash.

Its been almost three weeks now on lamictal. All side effects went away and now im doing better than ever. Seems lamictal is good stuff.

and now Lamictal, for the past two years. Of all the many meds I have taken, Lamictal has produced the least side effects. No sleepiness, no weight gain, ( that I can attribute to my meds anyway..ahem) and no englargement of the gums. In short I would say from my personal experience it's the best anti-seizure med out there. I only take 200mg a day, so it may be different for others who take a higher or lower dosage. Hope this gave a little insight.

I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?

Yes, my meds have given me some really weird eyesight side effects. I especially noticed a blurring of vision with Geodon like paranoid_cataclysm, and Lamictal seems to do the same thing when I increase my dosage. It's irritating, because it makes me feel very foggy and out of touch with the world. I was scared that my eyesight was getting drastically worse on its own, but then I realized that these side effects can occur.

ve been titrating down from 300mg by 25mg/wk and the side effects have been horrific; nausea, headaches, blurred vision. The side effects from toxicity still exist; itching,burning/tingling, pins &amp; needles, bone ache and stiffness in legs all still exist as well.

About 10% of patients who take Lamictal get a rash; however, the serious life-threatening rash occurs much more rarely. The risk of rash can be minimized by starting at a very low dose (12.5mg) and increasing very slowly. Lamictal is an excellent mood stabilizer with few side effects, except the rash. My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. I know Lamictal has a strong anti-depressent effect including when I took it and dizziness is a common side effect at first (including with me) but it generally passes in time.

I am starting to feel better, but I am having side effects. I have been on the lithium for a year so I am not worried about it, but I feel jittery, am shaky, and my heart rate is staying at 100 BPM. I have had no side effects from Lamictal. I take 200mg twice a day. I have been taking medicines for Bipolar since I was diagnosed in 1990 and all gave me some pretty bad side effects except Lamictal. When I switched from valporic acid to Lamictal all my side effects disappeared with in a couple of weeks. Lamictal is now available in generic.
