Lamictal generic problems

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal generic problems

lamictal

Avatar n tn I have had problems with the generic for Lamictal and have found the brand to be a lot more effective. My Dr. is no longer prescribing the generic for her patients because most have had issues with the generic.
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.
Avatar n tn I am very comfortable with my life now, but am hesitant to stay on this medicine (Lamictal) my entire life. Advice? Also, a few months ago, a generic for Lamictal was released. It seems like the generic doesn't work as long as the Lamictal did. Is this possible?
Avatar f tn In the U.S., if there is a generic for a drug and not being on the name brand won't cause problems, they usually write the Rx for the generic so the pharmacy that fills the order knows it's ok with the doctor to give the generic, otherwise the pharmacy has to call and check with the doctor to make sure it's ok to give the generic, which is a waste of everyone's time.
501086 tn?1210123831 I was having some memory issues, but that has also improved with the increased dosage. GREAT NEWS!! Lamictal now has a generic. I was paying $150/month WITH insurance and now have been buying it through a VERY large retailer for $10 for a 3 months supply.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed as being bipolar. The prescription that he got was a generic form of Lamictal. I visited him today & saw the pill bottle, it says "41" but there were only 9 pills left in the container. The date was Dec. 19 - that's only been 7 days ago & it says to take "1 for the lst 7 days & then take 2 a day". I asked him why there were so few in the bottle & he said the pharmacy didn't have enough to fill the entire prescription.
1540869 tn?1351214013 My doctor put me on it two years ago and seem to have a good affect but couldn't afford it until it went generic. I have been on it over a year ago now and its stabilized my depression. I was also on 300mg of effexor no I am on 150mg. I haven't had any side affects that I know of. I guess it works differently on different people. Prescribing mental health drugs is a bit of black magic as my doctor says. You never know how its going to work until you try it.
822153 tn?1333062995 s exactly what my Psychiatrist does. For example he has me on generic Lamictal and says that I were on the name brand Lamictal that he would only have me taking 150Mgs a day, but since I am on the Generic he moves it to 200Mgs a day. In your case you also need to look at how long you have been taking Prozac (fluxotine) because after many years of usage Prozac can lose it effectivness as the result of resistance built up by your body.
Avatar n tn ok.
Avatar f tn The medications that are less expensive are the ones that are available in generic form. Lamictal is available in generic form. With antipsychotics the latest one that is available in generic form is Risperdal. However there should be insurance options such as Medicaid or if you are working and its available in your state the Medicaid Buy in for Working People with Disabilities.
Avatar f tn Some people are really sensitive to the differences between brand and generic or between different generic manufacturers. If they did change, try to figure out what you had before. Drugs.com has a pill identifier if you have an old one around or you can remember what it looked like.
735919 tn?1236444549 I've been on Lamictal since October, and it's been a godsend to me. It is slow to titrate up to therapuedic levels - but it's done a world of good. I'm about 85-90% depression free all the time. The difference now is, I get down if something external happens, like regular folks do, everyone gets blue at times.
980052 tn?1262967079 I use lamotrigine (generic Lamictal) and it works quite well for me and I don't have any side effects anymore. A bit of sleepiness at first if I remember correctly. Depakote and lamictal react with each other (I can't remember if it increases or decreases effectiveness of Depakote) so be careful with that. It isn't 100 percent effective for me though. I have had some breakthrough episodes but they were caused by adding Wellbutrin to the mix.
552012 tn?1272855991 Why are the prices on Lamictal (lamotrigine) so expensive in the US? I'll tell you why. Drug companies! My daughter is waiting for her health insurance to kick in from her job and was running low. She got 2 weeks filled at $5 a pill!!!! This is WALMART and GENERIC!!!! $5 a freaking pill!!!! I got them from a pharmacy in Canada for her for $1.05 a pill ! 60 for 105 dollars!!!!! Those of you worried about Obama being socialistic...tell me...what has capitalism done for you lately???
Avatar m tn I have been on lamotragine (generic Lamictal) for 7 years, no physical addictive qualities. I am recovering addict, I don't even take Nyquil. I have severe depressive mood swings without it. I tried lithium first: gained weight. Hated it.
Avatar m tn Yes in general its a very good option with fewer side effects than other common mood stabilizers so it all depends.
Avatar m tn I've been on lamictal for a long time, 300mg a day and Wellbutrin 300mg a day. I have had some severe scary mood swings that I can trace to the Wellbutrin it seems. I think I did better on Zoloft but I hated the weight gain. I'd be resistant to go back on it, especially since I've started to lose weight. Anyway, if my psych decides to throw out everything, what do you think may be tried next? I need to take something that will allow me to function at my job as an RN.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with major depression and started taking generic Wellbutrin XL. Within a week of taking Wellbutrin 150 mg, I noticed changes in my libido, which continued to decrease. After two weeks I moved up to 300 mg, and my libido became almost nonexistent and I've been unable to have a complete erection. I've been on Wellbutrin for 4 weeks now and my sexual side effects have not subsided.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed generic Remeron since I wasn't having much luck with the SSRI meds. I've been off meds for about six months and am not having much success on my own. I'm also going for CBT (cognetive behavior therapy) for my anxiety and am going to my first group support meeting this friday. Has anyone had recent experience with generic Remeron? Don't know what to expect for sure but the SSRI side effects were miserable. Thx again, Thom.
Avatar f tn I take lamictal, lithium, and paxil...The lamictal was costing me over $300 a month, but my doctor was able to get me on the "bridges to access" program, and now my lamictal is mailed to me monthly for no cost. All in all, I would reccommend shopping for a new doc if the one you currently have is not able to take your financial situation into consideration. A sliding scale doctor is more likely to help you find cheap prescriptions as well.
