921323 tn?1268679412 Could our failure as health care providers actually position obesity drug research and development as the most important pharmaceutical goal of the decade? Where do you think we should put our resources? Do you accept the recent obesity drug hurdles in stride and want the pharmaceutical companies to take on the challenge to develop more anti-obesity medications? Or do you think we should concentrate our efforts on non-pharmaceutical interventions?
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
Avatar m tn Adults with uncorrected genu valgum are typically prone to injury and chronic knee problems such as chondromalacia and osteoarthritis. In some cases, total knee replacement (TKR) surgery may be required later in life to relieve pain and complications resulting from severe genu valgum.
Avatar n tn So when I started having leg problems I at first ignored it, thinking it was part of the knee arthritis. Then with the statins the leg pain got terrible and I started googling and figured out that statins were a problem. As I mentioned things got a lot better after I got off statins and became Paleo (both helped), but now I'm wondering if the knee arthritis enters into the problem somewhere. But mostly I'm still suspecting that everyone here took statins? Am I right folks?
931217 tn?1283484935 [139-141] In dogs, there is some evidence that neutered animals may be at higher risk than intact animals for sudden-onset form.[142,143] Obesity is a common and growing clinical problem in dogs and cats. Though clear and consistent definitions do not exist, various reports have suggested that among dogs 18%-44% are overweight and 2.9%-7.6% are obese.[154-156] Among cats, an estimated 19%-40% are overweight and 7.8% are obese.
Avatar f tn The underlying conditions that cause secondary osteoarthritis include injury, overuse of a joint, rheumatoid arthritis or other arthritis-related conditions, obesity, and more. Generalized osteoarthritis, also referred to as primary generalized osteoarthritis, is characterized by involvement of three or more joints or groups of joints.
552681 tn?1215136132 The numbness continued to the point that I lost use of the arm and it extended down into my right foot and leg and eventually into the right side of my face. Thinking that I was experiencing a stroke, my primary MD transferred me to a larger hospital where I underwent an MRI of my Head and Carotid U/S, and nothing was found at that time that could explain what was happening to me.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, osteoarthritis, like any other type of arthritis has flare ups and then you feel a little better for a while and it can flare up again. Ask your doctor to refer you to physiotherapy who can give you specific exercises to do so that you do not become too stiff. Although rest is important, you still need to be active, but not to the point that you get exhausted. Unless you have been told otherwise, a healthy balanced diet with fish, fruit and veg would be fine.
1652468 tn?1302904098 Start with no weight and gradually work up to heavier weights. For the elderly and those with more advanced osteoarthritis, I suggest avoiding weights and instead use calisthenics. As you improve, you can add some light weights. Regular exercise will not only improve joint stability but will also aid in weight control. Exercise also reduces inflammation. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Both of these bad habits increase free radical generation and inflammation.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed about a year and a half ago with Fibromyalgia; I also have DDD and scoliosis. I am a 29 year old female and the winter is really really hard on me. My arms hurt, my legs, my neck, back, and hands hurt; my skin burns and I get really bad migraines. I was going to a pain managment doctor and he was extremely rude to me. I would end up crying after every visit; he basically accused me of lying to him.
Avatar n tn It seems to come from inside my right quad about halfway between my knee and hip. I cannot feel the vibration with my hand and it is not a muscle twitch. I started a really stressful job about 3 months ago and have developed this and a strange lower-eyelid twitch in my left eye, so I assume they're both stress related. I'm gonna drink a beer and calm down.
Avatar n tn I also have that annoying warm sensation that is in my right leg and it moves from my ankle and up about 4inches and seems to be very frequent. I too thought it was a little heater under the seat of my car that was warming my leg-but the heat was not on. Also, the balls of my feet are burning along with this sensation. I need to know what this is?
Avatar f tn About two years ago I had a steroid injection in my knee - I had a 12 hour day on my feet looming and suffer arthritic pain in the knees and hips. After that time, the lumps seem to have really increased in number and size. The rheumatology department have said they will consider surgically removing any lumps that cause severe pain - where shall we start? Again, I've had some removed in the past for them to only re-appear, larger and more of them!
Avatar n tn I have had MRI's done of the Cervical spine(neck region) and Lumbar spine (lower back) I have a lg hernated disc in my neck and degenetive disc disease with an annular tear in my lower back. I am going to also request my doctors to do an MRI of Thoracic spine (middle back) because they haven't done an MRI of that section yet. I am not sure if the mid back problems is caused by these issues I know I have. I would suggest you dig into the problem more.

551343 tn?1506834118 I'm 42yrs old, mother of adult son, but have had undiagnosed symptoms off and on for years. From Joint pain and swelling to lymph node swelling and tenderness to now currently weakness (heavy feeling) and constant tiredness. I was diagnosed about a year and a half ago with a dead gallbladder which was removed...and it was dead. But now my PCP is testing for Autoimune and Viral/baterial infections: Mono, Lyme, Celiac and Lupus. I won't get the test results for another 24hrs or so.
Avatar n tn At first I thought it was my liver because it got worse when I drank, so I got a PET scan of my liver and spleen and got blood tests and everything was normal. I also got a endoscopy and colonoscopy because I was constipated for 2 weeks and that was all normal except for chronic gastritis. My uncle is a nurse and said that the pain sounds like it could be my gallbladder, so I had a ultrasound on my gallbladder, pancreas and right kidney 2 days ago and they said everything is normal there too.
Avatar n tn As a 34-year old mother of 3 with osteoarthritis in both hips, the lower back and left knee, along with mood swings out of control, this drug has done wonders! The best part is that there is no weight gain side effect. In fact, I've started to lose weight again. I also started kickboxing around the same time and it has helped with the mobility of my hips, as well as helping me feel more energetic. I actually enjoy exercising and find myself working out at least 5-6 days a week now.
363682 tn?1299492962 They are not sharp pains but more of a constant 'throb' and can go on for hours. Pain relief medication does nothing and the only relief I can get at all is the application of something topical like '4-Head' or the American 'Head-On'. Although I have been a reasonably 'active' drinker in the past, if anything now, at the age of 61 (male), I rarely have more than two drinks at a time ... which is why I'm surprised at the onset of these headaches.
Avatar m tn I am a 23 year old healthy male. I recently had a full physical and the results were that I am in above average health. I have no diseases, do not use drugs, but drink on occasion. Anyways, just started noticing these strange symptoms, within the past few weeks. Nothing "brought it on" so to speak that I can tell of. It's been going on longer, but less noticeable, now since I do not talk sleeping meds any more, it's all that I can notice...
