11446628 tn?1418302080 I have osteoarthritis in my spine, from neck down. I also have pain in my knee and hands, and my fingers are twisting and have knots. My right knee has had pain and swelling for weeks, and this morning it's too painful to walk. I haven't injured it. Recent blood test didn't report rheumatoid arthritis. So what's going on with my knee, and with my hands?
Avatar n tn Hello; for the past few months I have been experiencing a pain in my knee, it is just to the outside of the patella. It is a very sharp pain, like an electrical shock. It happens totally at random. It can happen when I am walking, sitting, sleeping, etc. When the pain is not occurring, my knee feels completely normal. When it happens, it usually happens every few seconds or minutes, then stops for several hours. I am not aware of any injury or unusual stress to that area.
Avatar n tn Hello Dear, Hyperextension of knee refers to an injury of knee forcing it to extend beyond its normal straightened position. The lower leg is forced excessively forward in relation to the upper leg.It may lead to ligament injury. Current research demonstrates that the natural history of untreated complete injuries of the ACL consists of progression of symptomatic instability to recurrent injuries.
Avatar f tn As of April 2005, doctors at the Mayo Clinic began supporting prolotherapy. Mayo Clinic doctors list the areas that are most likely to benefit from prolotherapy treatment: ankles, knees, elbows, and sacroiliac joint in the low back. They report that "unlike corticosteroid injections — which may provide temporary relief — prolotherapy involves improving the injected tissue by stimulating tissue growth.
Avatar f tn but the supplements didn't stop my pains. You also could have a mixture of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid. Just my thoughts. I know what it's like to live with constant pain.
Avatar n tn I have osteoarthritis and stenosis with facet joint degeneration. I was not having neck pain when this started only extremely chronic painful bilateral headaches eminating from the sub occipital areas in my head not my neck. Now I have headaches worse than before and neck spasms with really weird shotting pains in my neck and it feels like something is twisitng in my neck.
625530 tn?1221870270 I don't think I've had any other symptoms associated with Lyme or lupus, though I've had occasional mild joint pain in the fingers (diagnosed as early osteoarthritis). No diabetes as far as I know -- blood sugar levels have been fine. I have an upcoming neurology appointment, but I'm having to wait quite awhile for it. These sensations are really not that bad in and of themselves, but they're scary. I guess I'm wondering how scared to be. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I am expecting...and I am THRILLED! We've been married 3 months, and I just got my first positive pregnancy result yesterday. I"ve been in to confirm w/ my doc too! I'm so ecstatic. But I am scared...I take percocet for horrible right knee pain. I'm 34...have had 10 knee surgeries...including surgery to break my leg & realign my knee joint, bone grafts, and cartilage transplants. I need a knee replacement but they say I'm too young...
1840891 tn?1431551393 src=mpnews Topical NSAIDs May Be a Better Choice for Elderly With OA September 18, 2012 — Topical diclofenac is about as effective as oral diclofenac in knee and hand osteoarthritis (OA), is probably as effective as other oral NSAIDs, and might be a safer choice for elderly patients and others at risk for gastrointestinal adverse effects, according to an intervention review published online September 12 in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
739070 tn?1338607002 An X-ray will sometimes show what kind of arthritis we are talking about. You are in the right age group for osteoarthritis. If the pain is in the last two joints of the fingers and the base of the thumb this is most likely OA. If so we remove it from the equation. Do both hips hurt? or mainly one? If your left leg has been subtley weak all this time, you would have compensated for it in your stance, posture and gait which could cause a degenerative joint pain.
Avatar n tn I am planning a trip to Mayo in Feb or March 2008 - whenever I can get in. I'm desperate. My body feels like it is collapsing. Docs say not EDS and I agree. They are trying me on Enbrel. After one month...no change and in fact I'm worse. All my joints catch and crunch. It's scary. Really scary, in fact. How can we get in touch with each other? Will they let me post an email address? Not sure of the rules.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my early forties. I had three major surgeries in 2011, 2 total knee Replacements and a lower spinal fusion. I also have severe cervical stenosis at C5 and C6. I just recently started having issues with shortness of breath, chest tightness, lightheadedness when exercising. I was originally diagnosed with high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn What MD did you see at the Mayo Clinic? I saw one with whom I was not impressed at the Mayo Clinic in MN. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
Avatar n tn I also have involuntary muscle twitches but I believe its from my adderall (i take for adhd) My father has been diagnosed with rheumatoid and osteoarthirits...im 33. Had knee surgery at 26, now other knee is going. I crack constantly. Google degenerative autoimmune diseases...
Avatar n tn Allergic to titanium? I have had three knee replacements, one a cement/antibiotic one. I am in constant pain and my leg has red spots on the aria of the knee replacement and is always wormer then the other leg. Now I have developed a severe allergy in my sinus, with the tubes plug and water on one ear. No one can tell me what I am allergic to. I read many people having the idea of allergies to titanium and I have read that the medical community say it not possible.
476246 tn?1418874514 Hi Marcia, Sounds like osteoarthritis to me. I have it in most of the joints in my body, and while it was annoying before, it is really wearing me down now. Joint pain seems to be often aggravated by Tx, at least for me. In fact, the head, neck, shoulder and spine aches are the most devastating thing about these meds, which I've now been on for 47 weeks. Don't get me wrong - the foggy headed, short tempered, itchy skinned, thin haired stuff are no picnic either.
Avatar n tn It happens about 2x a day, lasts a few seconds and it has moved around my body. Started in the left wrist, went to the left knee, then ankle, and the over to the right knee. Now it's been happening behind my right thigh for about 2 weeks. Very strange.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I`ve posted on here before, and do often because my symptoms seem to change. 2 weeks after the birth of my daughter, I started having tingling / burning in hands and feet, abnormal sensations and cramping in right wrist, tendons would tense up when I bent down and my muscles twitched. Well most of this has went away except I`m still slightly twitching and the tendons in my left heel still tense up when I bend down, and I still get a slight tingling in that ankle.
Avatar n tn But for the past few weeks, I have had this sensitive skin on my upper thigh, and indeed, I also could see where I had apparently banged my leg, nearer to the knee. The knee area has healed and doesn't hurt anymore, but the sensitive skin as not gone away. And, I do not have a genital herpes outbreak right now. So I wonder if the virus is still in my body, but it is not strong enough to give me an outbreak anywhere other than on my skin, near where I hit myself. Just a thought.
475586 tn?1225027354 A dear friend told me I ought to skip these doctors and just head up to Mayo, but I don't think they treat anyone that doesn't have a more concrete diagnosis do they? Anyway, let me know what you think.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with hep c 1a and hoping I could use a herbal remedy cause I don't have any insurance except Medicare. I also have osteoarthritis and sever injury to the leg and ankle making it hard for me to do any exercise. Can't walk losing length in leg. Not supposed to pick up anything over a LB. I'm totally lost to what is going on. I just know I'm sick, tired and in alot of pain. They give me narcotic pain meds I also have herniated disc in back. My eyes bother me to is this normal?
4226456 tn?1354123528 I started having hip pain at around 9 wks into Tx, although I had shoulder and knee pain prior to treatment. I am about 9 months post Triple Treat, with 24 funs weeks of Victrelis (and the 4 wk leadin with soc) My hip joints stiffen up if I sit too long, but especially on cement steps, etc. I also developed kneee jointpain while Treating, but most of that has gone away.
147426 tn?1317269232 He helped all he could and kept my pain medicine perscribed for me. I called Mayo Clinic and they set me up an appointment and told me not to worry about no insurance that they would work out a payment plan. When we got there it was just the opposite. We had to borrow about $12,000.00 or more to pay for the test. We also had to pick and choose which test where most important because we could'nt afford all of them. To make it short we left there with no diagnosis and no money.
975514 tn?1325001538 I was 17 when I first was diagnosed with sciatica and it wasn't until I was 31 when my foot was completely numb that I was able to convince a doctor to take an X-Ray of my lower back, which started a domino effect of MRIs and testing. I learned that I have degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis in my spine, minor scoliosis and nerve damage- I even had a shoulder surgery on a bone spur because I kept getting tendinitis and the doctors couldn't cure my arm pain.
211940 tn?1267884866 And believe me I know pain I've had 2 total knee replacements over last 4 years.. this pain is in the same range as the knee pain...10 plus !!!!! Best of luck to us all.
Avatar n tn I do have anticardiolipin/antiphospholipid syndrome (I take an aspirin a day for that) and recently my ANA came back positive (was always negative), but the doctors at the Mayo clinic didn't think that mattered because it was only slightly elevated. I asked the nurse at the Mayo clinic why I would be B12 and Vitamin D deficient and she said that a lot of people of Vitamin D deficient. I'm waiting on the doctor's recommendation for the Mayo Clinic...should be getting that any day...
Avatar n tn I went to 4 neurosurgeons for evaluation (including the Mayo Clinic) before deciding to go with the surgeon I did....and am I ever glad now, considering what many of you have gone through with anterior surgeries and fusions. The neuro I chose told me that her procedure was the "safest" one for my circumstances - they make an opening on one side of the lamina and tack it back, like an open door...which preserves stability while allowing the spinal cord more room.
Avatar n tn been on a low-fat and bland diet for over one month (no ground beef, nothing fried, no oil, no mayo, no cream sauces, no butter, etc.). I still have symptoms daily and am always uncomfortable with belching, whether I have had a bland meal or even a glass of water. Symptoms last for hours on end. The newest symptom is diarrhea after meals, sometimes, when I have not even yet finished eating. I am really hoping that surgery is the answer and that we will not have to search for another cause.
