Avatar f tn Hi our daughter is 9 months. She started having complex tonic clonic febrile seizures at 6 months, and has had one approximately fortnightly since. The shortest was 5 mins but most have been 15mins - 30mins duration, she had 2 in 24 hours on one occasion. We have been ambulancef in each time and had checks; EEC after seisure showed interdictal spikes, but the second EEC a was normal, MMR normal thankfully, blood tests and lumber puncture ok.
10094372 tn?1407761844 I’ve now gone four months without medication and no seizures. My diet is a 80/15/5 (fat/protein/carbs) ratio diet, and it works very well for me. My ketones are showing “green” in the mornings and “yellow” in the afternoon, using the Ketonix. When it shows “blue” it’s time to fast, exercise or have more fat! Now it is really easy to adjust the ketone level by just a simple exhale into the device. No disposable strips, no extra cost!
Avatar m tn Think you should talk to someone familiar with the Ketogenic diet and see if there could be a relationship. I understand there are a number of hospitals which except this now as a treatment for epilespy. Maybe you could google it on line and find one close to you so you could talk to the people more about this procedure. From what I read it is important to address the problem earily in order to prevent brain damage.
Avatar f tn My daughter has had on and off fever for already 5 days. :( she's 3 years old and has a history of febrile seizures. It's an ugly experience to go through, and everytime she gets a fever I start feeling anxiety and it's hard for me to get a good night's rest. Being pregnant with my 2nd is also tough when I feel this way. I feel so nauseous and I get super worried.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with febrile seizures when i was about one week old too. I developed tourettes when i was 4 years old and i am now 29. Im actually starting to think that, it is this medication phenobarbital which caused my tourettes from the beginning. None of my patent or grand parentes has tics or tourettes. Im looking into it and i have found ar least two studies that strenghtens my cause.
Avatar m tn Hi there. The various us causes of seizures in children include febrile seizures, which occur when an infection associated with high fever develops. Other causes can be infections, metabolic disorders, drugs, medications, bleeding inside the brain. It could be something else mimicking a seizure like fainting, breath holding spells, night terrors, migraines and psychiatric disturbances.
Avatar f tn My 32 month old toddler has been experiencing febrile seizures ever since he was one year old. At first, the seizures occurred when his fever spiked but they later started to appear at low grade fevers too. He was seen by a neurologist and had an EEG and MRI done. The EEG showed a slight "spike" whereas the MRI was completely normal. Since his seizures were reoccurring, he was put on clobazam.
Avatar n tn Yes, in addition to having a VNS, and being on the ketogenic diet she is taking Zonegran 300mg, Depakote 500mg and .25mg of klonopin 3X a day. What do the sharp waves actually mean- I get that they are the patterns recoded, but clinically what does it mean?
6990909 tn?1435275816 I suppose I naturally am doing the ketogenic diet and it does help. Avoiding glutton has made it where carbs are not a major part of my meals.
Avatar m tn just checked what a ketogenic diet is, this type of diet is extremely unhealthy and damages livers of any person hbver or not The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet: high fat damages the liver adequate-protein is ok but from vegetable or little white meat, no red meat, no diaries low-carbohydrate leads nowhere, it is processed and refined carbohydrates to increase blood glucose which makes damage, so the problems is refined cereals not not carbohydrates the a
640548 tn?1340553355 But my dog was placed with an 8yro boy who has seizures and autism. He Alerts and He Assists. Im sure it takes a load off the parents shoulders. With the many worries that occur when living with someone with this condition. You might look into disability insurance as well. I know many disabled children are covered by it, but I dont know the particulars. Maybe someone here does and can comment about it...
3136223 tn?1367960716 I don't know if this is the right forum or not but I need answers. On Saturday night (July 6th) my fiance's son was running a little warm, we figured it was due to playing outside all day (it was about 90 out) and from it being warm in the house. But he generally "runs warm" and everyone calls him "The Human Heater." Around 3:30 Sunday morning, my fiance and I got up so we could take his father to the airport and Brandyn was awake.
Avatar n tn My 5 year old had 3 febrile seizures in the last 2 months, all of which were preceeded by severe muscle or joint pain. Any ideas on whether muscle / joint pain are related to seizures and how to treat?? Will he grow this out? Turns 6 next month.
Avatar m tn Ask your doc about the Ketogenic diet and see if you might be a good canidate for it. Its a hard diet but if it works its worth it.
Avatar f tn I did have a lot of febrile seizures as an infant and was given phenobarbitol. I had physical tics as a child and have been struggling with them a bit more the past 10 years or so as well. Depression and anxiety are what led me to seek treatment. Thank!
Avatar m tn Meds are really the only way to reduce the frequency and intensity of seizures, though some people have seizure triggers (flashing light, for instance) and so avoiding triggers is important for them. The ketogenic diet (an extremely low carb diet, only to be undertaken with physician approval and supervision) can help some people with seizures, but is typically tried only after several different meds have failed to provide relief.
Avatar f tn My daughter is on a modified ketogenic diet called Low Glycemic Index Treatment, it is not as strict as keto and allows for more carbs and protein. LGIT is different than the low glycemic diet you hear about for wt loss. In general Low Glycemic foods help to keep blood sugar even and helps to prevent those highs and lows. The treatment for epilepsy is like keto in that it is low carb and limits carbs, but of the carbs allowed, they must be low glycemic and again ...
Avatar n tn Here at Duke, we use mainly the low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet to treat diabetes and obesity. Hypertension gets better, heartburn gets better, fatty liver. The list goes on and on."" Excerpt from Diabetes UK - Low Carb High Fat Diet.. "The diet, because of its low requirement for insulin, has been recognised by the Swedish government as being suitable for people with type 2 diabetes and as helpful to individuals looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar f tn was she in the sun the whole day? it could have been sunstroke. just remember though about 5% of people will have one seizure in their lifetime and it doesn't mean that anything is wrong, just go to you GP and see what their opinion is.
Avatar n tn We're not sure what's happening to our son. He's 2 years old. Since he turned 1, he's been getting febrile seizures, he had 4 in 2 days the first time and spent 3 days in hospital. They said he had complex febrile seizures. Since then he's had maybe 8 more seizures and 2 of which didn't involve a fever at all. One time his day-care found him lying on the playground, limp. He's had normal EEG, MRI, EKGs and Chest x-rays.
887324 tn?1241730037 because at first they thought it was just infantile spasms, or febrile seizures. HOWEVER HE HAD HUNDREDS OF SEIZURES w/o and fever!!!..NO ONE WOULD LISTEN TO US AT ALL!!!!!....Until he has a grand mal right in the pediatricians office!!!! My suggestion is.....Check to see if this little sweety has a fever with these and find a good neurologist that will listen...A PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGIST!!! Riley children's hospital in Indianapolis Indiana has the BEST!!! Deborah Sokol......She is awesome!!!
Avatar n tn Called the dr and ran her there immediately. Did blood work and urinalysis and said she had a viral infection and febrile seizure (temp was still 103 after being cooled down). Family history is my husband had febrile seizures to age 6. The other children we have had never had one. I run high fevers to 104.5 or slightly higher. It seems she got my tendency to run high fevers and daddy's tendency to have a seizure.
Avatar n tn He was hospitilaized and put on a drip to get some fluids back in him and we were told that he had febrile seizures. He had an EEG recently (age 19 months) and the results came back abnormal stating that he had low activity in the left part of the brain. They ruled out that he had febrile seizures and believe it to have come from this part of the brain.
Avatar n tn t work he will try Topirimate and then has suggested the Ketogenic diet. If he does go on the Ketogenic diet will it mean Jamie going to special clinic. ?
Avatar n tn We're struggling to get to the bottom my son's issues. Since he was a year old he started getting febrile seizures, his first round brought 4 seizures in 2 days. He's had maybe 8 seizures since then and 2 of which didn't involve a fever at all. He was found passed out at his day care in February, he wasn't seen seizing or shaking but he came out of it like he would a seizure. Now, for the last 3 - 4 months, we've noticed him passing out.
