10094372 tn?1407761844 VE JUST RECENTLY BEEN HOSPITALIZED FOR FIVE DAYS TO HAVE A VIDEO EEG TO SEE THE SEIZURES TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT KIND OF SEIZURES I WAS EXACTLY HAVING. THIS TEST SHOWED THE SAME ACTIVITY BUT IT ALSO SHOWED THAT THE SEIZURES I WAS HAVING WERE PSUEDO SEIZURES (STRESS SEIZURES). A FIVE DAY VIDEO EEG IS THE BEST WAY TO HELP. DETERMINE THE EXACT KIND OF SEIZURES YOU MAY BE HAVING. I WOULD SUGGEST TALKING TO A NUEROLOGIST ABOUT HAVING THIS TEST DONE.
Avatar m tn Sorry about your son. There is a movie you might want to watch concerning epilepsy. The movie is "First Do No Harm". It is a true story concerning the use of the Ketogenic Diet with good results in treating epilepsy in children. Sure wish you the best with your son.
Avatar m tn Meds are really the only way to reduce the frequency and intensity of seizures, though some people have seizure triggers (flashing light, for instance) and so avoiding triggers is important for them. The ketogenic diet (an extremely low carb diet, only to be undertaken with physician approval and supervision) can help some people with seizures, but is typically tried only after several different meds have failed to provide relief.
Avatar n tn Yes, in addition to having a VNS, and being on the ketogenic diet she is taking Zonegran 300mg, Depakote 500mg and .25mg of klonopin 3X a day. What do the sharp waves actually mean- I get that they are the patterns recoded, but clinically what does it mean?
6990909 tn?1435275816 Has anybody tried a ketogenic diet for health issues? I'm just trying to find holistic ways to deal with RA. I have tried focusing on foods with anti-inflammatory properties but am continuing the search. Thanks for your input!
Avatar m tn just checked what a ketogenic diet is, this type of diet is extremely unhealthy and damages livers of any person hbver or not The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet: high fat damages the liver adequate-protein is ok but from vegetable or little white meat, no red meat, no diaries low-carbohydrate leads nowhere, it is processed and refined carbohydrates to increase blood glucose which makes damage, so the problems is refined cereals not not carbohydrates the a

Avatar n tn Here at Duke, we use mainly the low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet to treat diabetes and obesity. Hypertension gets better, heartburn gets better, fatty liver. The list goes on and on."" Excerpt from Diabetes UK - Low Carb High Fat Diet.. "The diet, because of its low requirement for insulin, has been recognised by the Swedish government as being suitable for people with type 2 diabetes and as helpful to individuals looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why I would be having seizures? I've been having them since I was about 10 years old. I have the mono-clonic & granmaw seizures. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 15. I've had an MRI done and quite a few EEG's, blood work, and a cat scan done. And my neurologist has come up with nothing. I was put on keppra for a year. And of course when I went to go have my EEG done for that year check up. It came back clear. So they took me off.
Tbd key words will be low-carb, and keto. If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar f tn depikote helps control seizures and moods, but makes it very hard for a child to learn. it also causes hair loss and weught gain. lemictol causes all types of problems. if medication is working, check out the ketogenic diet, or the vagus nerve stimulator. i know this information from personal experience. my son hase been on six medications, all without seizure control. i know it's hard but stick in there. everything has a way of working itself out.

Avatar f tn t make any changes to her meds without her neuros help as weaning can cause life threatening seizures, needs to be done EXTREMELY slow ....but I would sure ask if it's a possibility. over time they're put on so many drugs it almost becomes impossible to know what helps and what hurts. I just heard about a trial starting for a keto pill....same benefits as the ketogenic diet, but they can eat normal food. Anyways...

Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar n tn Thank you, just right now she only likes the sugar free soda offered on her diet, water not so much, or milk because I think she is sick of the whipping cream she had to drink for years.
Tbd Some people, including me find that a ketogenic diet (focusing on very low carb, moderate protein, and unprocessed natural fats) is helpful for blood sugar. Aside from exercise, which you are already doing, weight loss, if you are overweight can help in lowering blood sugars. Other than this, you may wish to consult with your dr in case any change in medications can also assist your progress. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hi, Your blood sugars are still very high. Maximum daily dose of metformin is 2650 mg, I understand. So you are well below this still. Suggest you take efforts to further reduce your blood sugars. normal fasting should be in the range of about 4.4 - 5.2. 2 hours post eating should be less than 7.7 and ideally less than 6.6 (or close to fasting levels). Low carb diet may help greatly with reducing post eating blood sugars (look into low carb / ketogenic / paleo-style).
20797525 tn?1510602613 I would also suggest you looking into low carb/ Ketogenic diet. This diet is very helpful for reducing insulin resistance / helping to control blood sugars. Wishing you very well.
Avatar m tn The ketogenic diet (high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate) is popular for weight loss (ketosis is a state at which the body has an extremely high fat burning rate) but is used to help numerous medical conditions.
