keppra

1146870 tn?1261519635 I am looking for some relief for nerve pain after a stroke. My right side is total pain all the time. It hinders my everyday life.
Avatar m tn 25mg increase per week is acceptable to let your body get used to it to avoid confusion or anxiety. I started to feel pain relief of my nerve pain once I hit that dose. I have nerve dysfunction in my spine and I have a numb left foot. It began helping me once I reached that level. The important thing to remember though, is medication management is highly individualized. What works for one person, may not work for another.
1794411 tn?1321495731 t like prescribing narcotics but REALLY what am I supposed to do for pain??? The one Dr I saw last week had the nerve to tell me to RELAX. go take an aquasize class at the Y. SERIOUSLY???? ok, so relaxation is going to fix the nerve issues, the migraines, the herniated discs. What B. S. and of course the depression i've been dealing w/ for YEARS is hitting an all time low, high, whatever. So. I need to quit venting so that i can calm down and go to sleep. Thanks for letting me rant!
Avatar m tn even though the leaflet that comes with keppra now states it can cause muscle pain joint pain and paresthesia. she was still talking as if it was unlikely that kepra was causing my problems which is stupid. as i have had loads of nerve conduction tests and other tests that have proved there is nothing else causing the pain and pins and needles in my hands/lower arms when i said i was vitamin d deficient and i thought keppra had caused it.
Avatar f tn I did get a big relief from Tegretol which is one of the first anti-seizure meds for nerve pain that they give for TN. Lyrica did not work too well plus I hated weight gain. I have also tried Keppra, and now on Lamictal which reduces spasms but does not go away. I feel your pain and hope they can find something more helpful .
Avatar f tn We tried the Beta Blockers, the triptans, Amitriptaline, Antidepressants, Bio Feedback, Nerve Blocks, Cryogenic Therapy , celebrex, and the narcotics. Then I did the Chiari decompression, the laminectomy and a Occipital Neurectomy on the left and right. For two years I was pretty pain free, then for two more I was starting to get a bad migraine one to two a year, still pretty great. Then 2008.
Avatar f tn She has prescribed Lyrica for me for some of the nerve pain. Has anyone else tried this? Has it worked for you? I have been losing my peripheral vision on and off, and it is almost impossible for me to move my head without excruciating pain. I had an LP performed quite recently and as a result, I have a CSF leak. Can LP's make chiari symptoms worse? I read that on a web-site and didn't know whether to dismiss it or not.
338416 tn?1420045702 They get crazy and start sending out stuff that has nothing to do with what the brain is telling it. That nerve impulse goes out in both directions to the neuron, which sends stuff back to the axons and tells them to fire - and WHAM! I have a myoclonic jerk. (Definitely read the article on this one - I've condensed it for comprehension, but it's very interesting.
Avatar f tn t spaced out, but I have been in a lot of pain. Whenever I open my mouth I feel a sharp pain in the right side of my head and jaw, I have severe headaches now, I get extremely dizzy, I feel so weak every day, I get menstrual cramps but I'm not menstruating. I guess my question is Keppra a good medicine to be taking? Is there anything else out there for these "spacing out" episodes? If I have only had one seizure should I really have to take three medicines?
998260 tn?1277731559 Looks for the class of drugs that treat trigeminal neuralgia, which is probably what you have since a facial nerve is effected. Gabapentin, topamax, keppra, etc. All have side effects so you have to try and see what works for you. Have you thought of botox? That may deaden the nerve - issue may be how it effects the eye which is why I could not do it.
1406332 tn?1315962760 After reading this post, it is starting to make more sense to me about my 4 abnormal EEG's and face pain. I too get the pain in the left side of my face from time to time lasting less than 5 seconds, but my neuro claims that I have epilepsy because my MRI is clear and their seems to be no other cause for my "seizures". Thank you monkeymom for starting this post, and Thank you Quix for the great explanation of the question I have had for 2 years now!
Avatar f tn TL;DR: I think Keppra makes me dehydrated because alcohol makes me feel super-dehydrated even if I follow the 2:1 water:alcohol ratio, and because I seem to have a hard time staying hydrated in general. But I'm seeing little if any literature to support dehydration as a Keppra side effect. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Avatar m tn Isn't this the gommunity due to neuropathy pain from keppra?
1165078 tn?1338655745 I'm looking for ppl who r on Keppra or KeppraXR, for at least 7 mo. to a yr... I have noticed shoulder joint? socket?tendon? problems, other than the normal irritability issues, what have you noticed in way of side effects of being on this drug for so long? I also noticed weight gain, even though I exercise daily..
Avatar m tn Just looking to see if anyone has any weird syndromes or something similar, still have severe neck pain located on top of shoulder near her neck, when this pain is severe seems to drive many of the other conditions. Currently taking Keppra, today had a mild seizure if that is what this is while on medicine, we still feel somehow tied into her neck pain.
1558393 tn?1299070031 L and he took me off all pain meds and put me on Keppra, I have to say that so far it does help with the headaches. I am now starting to notice at night when I have been in bed for about 15 min my ENTIRE body starts to ache, from head to toe. It is so bad that I can't sleep and want to cry. Does anyone else have this happen to them? It also does it at my desk if I sit to long. I asked my new Neuro about the pain and he said that I need to see my PCP becauce he only deals with headaches.
233622 tn?1279334905 I have been on Tegretol for about 14 years...firstly for seizure control, secondly for pain management for Paratrigeminal Neuralgia (which differs from trigeminal neuralgia). I was intrigued by this drug when I saw your post so I looked into it. The following is copied and pasted from a website explaining anti-seizure meds... "The seizure control abstained with Trilepital is as good and in some situations better than with Tegretol.
Avatar n tn I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
Avatar f tn No matter how small or large the amount. At first I thought this a side effect of the anticonvulsant I take (Keppra) -- the instructions say to avoid alcohol because very serious interactions can occur, although they never specify what those interactions are. A couple medical professionals I talked to about it said that it's because Keppra increases the level of enzymes present in my liver, thereby speeding up my liver's metabolic rate.
1596950 tn?1297352500 aggresion is a side effect of keppra, doctors sometime call it the "keppra rage". i didn't have the aggression, but i had the learning problems. bad memory and lack of concentration was the worst of it. it was so bad because i'm at varsity and you're basically just a number so they don't really care.
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
1558393 tn?1299070031 I went to my PCP about the body pain, he said it was from the Keppra. That is one of the main side effects. When I called the new nuro he said that he did not know why I was having the pain...well DUHHH he should have known. Per my PCP I will not be seeing him agian! Any way my great family doctor is slowly taking me off the Keppra. I go back in two weeks and he is going to try Topamax. Does anyone take this? If so does it work with your headaches? Do you have any side effects?
Avatar f tn Hello I have been taking Keppra for migraines. It doesn't seem to be helping much and I don't want to put up with the side effects. In my research I see that people take it mainly for seizures and taper off of it very slowly due to the risk of their seizures returning. My question is since I don't have seizures and was taking it for migraines is there any need to taper? Thanks for any info!
