Avatar f tn I just got back from my dr, they want to wean me from dilantin to Keppra, b/c of "chest pain side effects" and continued problems with balance issues after last sz. Crabby'ness? oh just great! now i got that to ""look forward to""?
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
233622 tn?1279334905 My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized). Though it worked at first, I eventually needed too high a dose, so, my gp put me on lyrica which was created for diabetic neuropathy. It works, it takes a while for it to build up in your system tho, so that it works.
Avatar n tn They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
Avatar f tn Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
Avatar m tn after about a year the b6 injections were stopped as my b6 levels where back to normal the vitamin injections had no effect on the muscle pain and pins and needles/numbnes in my hands and forearms . i have had many tests over the years to check my nervous system is ok and everything comes back fine over the last 4 years i had had a few muscle injures in my arms and wrists which i think are connected to me taking kepra .then 2 months ago i injured my middle finger on my left hand.
Avatar n tn After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. Today is the first day off it and he still seems to have the dillusional aggressive side effects that I am hopeful after reading your post.....I pray to god that the old person before this drug comes back. How was those last few weeks for your son?
Avatar f tn Just recently I had a new diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and was put on Folic Acid and Keppra. So now I'm taking three medications. I have only had one grand mal seizure, but every day my mind does this thing where it kind of blanks out when I'm talking and I stare for a couple of seconds, that's when I took an EEG and it determined I had JME. But since I have been on Keppra my mind hasn't spaced out, but I have been in a lot of pain.
Avatar f tn TL;DR: I think Keppra makes me dehydrated because alcohol makes me feel super-dehydrated even if I follow the 2:1 water:alcohol ratio, and because I seem to have a hard time staying hydrated in general. But I'm seeing little if any literature to support dehydration as a Keppra side effect. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Avatar f tn Was on lamicatal er when shaking started on right side of body but had a allergic reaction to it..
1165078 tn?1338655745 keppra lowered my vitamin d levels and i also got the joint pain. Have your doc check your vitamin d levels. A lot of epilepsy drugs cause this. You might also notice some short term memory probs if your d is low enuff. I hope this is the problem because it is easy to fix.
Avatar m tn Isn't this the gommunity due to neuropathy pain from keppra?
Avatar f tn I to have been taking Keppra and told can't drive for six months, yesterday my Oncologist informed me that only a Neurologist can authorize driving and I will need to probably get off keppra to get permission to drive. Was also informed that you can not just stop this drug.
Avatar f tn i take 3000 mg of keppra and 600 mg of tegratol a day,)not a typo) still not fully seizure free and am having alot of dizzy spells.which i was told by my neuro that it was vertigo due to the pollen in the air. can all this med make me gain weight. not a little person , but have gain about 20 pounds in the last month or so. wating or exercise habbits have not changed. could it be the meds.
1558393 tn?1299070031 L and he took me off all pain meds and put me on Keppra, I have to say that so far it does help with the headaches. I am now starting to notice at night when I have been in bed for about 15 min my ENTIRE body starts to ache, from head to toe. It is so bad that I can't sleep and want to cry. Does anyone else have this happen to them? It also does it at my desk if I sit to long. I asked my new Neuro about the pain and he said that I need to see my PCP becauce he only deals with headaches.
Avatar f tn But last month I started seeing a new neurologist, who said that this is neither a Keppra thing nor an epilepsy thing, and in fact, he has no idea what it's about. And that Keppra is processed through the kidneys, not the liver. So I'm back to the drawing board. And two neurologists now have told me it's okay to drink, provided that I never get drunk (because that does lower your seizure threshold). And as previously stated, alcohol doesn't get me drunk anymore anyway.
1596950 tn?1297352500 She had a prolonged partial seizure when she was 6 but has been seizure free since being on the keppra. Good Luck and may the Lord watch over you and your family.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
1558393 tn?1299070031 I had the surgery a year ago and I still deal with chronic joint and muscle pain daily. So once you are off the Keppra, if you are still experiencing the pain, I would look into it further. From what I have discovered so far is that muscles and ligaments are loose around the joints thereby causing me pain. You may want to look into some type of PT to help keep those muscles strong. Hopefully you will get some more answers on the other questions!
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
Avatar f tn Hello I have been taking Keppra for migraines. It doesn't seem to be helping much and I don't want to put up with the side effects. In my research I see that people take it mainly for seizures and taper off of it very slowly due to the risk of their seizures returning. My question is since I don't have seizures and was taking it for migraines is there any need to taper? Thanks for any info!
Avatar f tn Keppra or levetiracetam is indicated for seizure and sometimes used to treat neuropathic pain. The exact mechanism in treating epilepsy is actually unknown but the drug is known to bind to a synaptic vesicle protein which is believed to impede nerve conduction across synapses. Diagnostic tests such as EEG may be normal especially if it was done after the seizure episode. It is important that you take your medications regularly and as prescribed.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant with my second child. I'm 37 +2 and I have epilepsy. My 1st pregnancy was 11 yrs ago. I was actually on Depakote and high risk but I have a very health normal very active 10 yr old boy! I'm taking Keppra now and they still consider me high risk but the risk is much lower with Keppra then it was with Depakote. They have done several ultrasounds and baby is great!! They have me taking 1000mg of Folic acid in top of my prenatal vitamins.
