Keppra for pain

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra for pain

keppra

Avatar f tn TL;DR: I think Keppra makes me dehydrated because alcohol makes me feel super-dehydrated even if I follow the 2:1 water:alcohol ratio, and because I seem to have a hard time staying hydrated in general. But I'm seeing little if any literature to support dehydration as a Keppra side effect. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Avatar f tn Starting around two years ago, I noticed that alcohol doesn't get me drunk, or even tipsy -- it just gives me body aches, headaches and fatigue. There's no lowered inhibitions or warm, fuzzy sense of well-being or any of the other things people want from drinking. No matter how small or large the amount.
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
Avatar f tn I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!) I have noticed the following: quick to get angry, short tempered, excessive crying, like to focus on negative conversations rather than the positive, I complain a lot, and I take it out on the ones I love most.
Avatar n tn Continued with Keppra and Di Tan Tang 2X/day each for another 8 days. Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day.
Avatar f tn Once you have the grand mal seizure, you want to do everything possible NOT to experience that feeling again. I was very weak feeling on Keppra for 4-5 months, then it got a lot better. I do experience slight headaches, but nothing like i was before I was on it. And I have problems walking through aisle's at stores (I get kinda dizzy too). But again, Ill take that over having seizures.
Avatar f tn Clarification: My neurologist did back up his claim that it's not a Keppra thing by explaining that Keppra is processed through the kidneys, not the liver. And two neurologists now have told me it's okay to drink, provided that I never get drunk (because that does lower your seizure threshold). My current one said that I if I do drink, I need to precede and follow every alcoholic drink with a non-alcoholic one.
641243 tn?1235752084 I have had my pup in Keppra for one year. Given he is only 18lbs, the dose was prescribed in liquid form which was impossible to manage, especially for the dose required In The middle of the night. I called everyone I could think of and found an accredited pharmacy (Wellness pharmacy) who was able to purchase the powder from the manufacturer for me. They made capsules with the dose I needed for my pup and life got better! I don't know what I would have done otherwise.
Avatar m tn I took Keppra for 3 weeks & it made me very sick. I should have told my Dr. that I was sick immediately. It has been 3 weeks 3 days since I stopped & I'm still nauseated & having chest pains. My Dr. said I should have stopped immediately. Now I am suppose to take Oxcarbazepine. I'm scared. Good luck with keppra. I hope yur son tolerates it better than I did.
1165078 tn?1338655745 I'm looking for ppl who r on Keppra or KeppraXR, for at least 7 mo. to a yr... I have noticed shoulder joint? socket?tendon? problems, other than the normal irritability issues, what have you noticed in way of side effects of being on this drug for so long? I also noticed weight gain, even though I exercise daily..
Avatar m tn Isn't this the gommunity due to neuropathy pain from keppra?
1558393 tn?1299070031 L and he took me off all pain meds and put me on Keppra, I have to say that so far it does help with the headaches. I am now starting to notice at night when I have been in bed for about 15 min my ENTIRE body starts to ache, from head to toe. It is so bad that I can't sleep and want to cry. Does anyone else have this happen to them? It also does it at my desk if I sit to long. I asked my new Neuro about the pain and he said that I need to see my PCP becauce he only deals with headaches.
Avatar m tn Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.
Avatar n tn I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets! Hope this helps and stay focused.
1596950 tn?1297352500 My son is on keppra (has been on it for only 3months), he also takes B6 for the aggression and it seems to help. However, I have also noticed more instances of learning delays and mood swings where he hits his head on the wall or throws himself down. I know my dr said that he would get better the longer he is on it, but sometimes it seems to get worse. You should ask your dr about vitamin B6.
1558393 tn?1299070031 I went to my PCP about the body pain, he said it was from the Keppra. That is one of the main side effects. When I called the new nuro he said that he did not know why I was having the pain...well DUHHH he should have known. Per my PCP I will not be seeing him agian! Any way my great family doctor is slowly taking me off the Keppra. I go back in two weeks and he is going to try Topamax. Does anyone take this? If so does it work with your headaches? Do you have any side effects?
Avatar f tn A lot of drugs are used for multiple purposes like Keppra for example. It is used for seizures, pain, bipolar disorder, and others. Before you stop taking the medication talk with your doctor first. Stopping cold turkey if you will could cause some side effects.
2030686 tn?1351688548 According to all their tests when I had my first set of seizures, I don't have epilepsy. The only cause they could find was low potassium and suspected serotonin syndrome(poisoning). I'm waiting on blood test results to see if my potassium was low again. I've been on pain meds for years and they can deplete your potassium so I'm guessing that's what it is. I'm doing double therapy so I don't think I have to worry about the incivik.
Avatar f tn The only times the seizures would happen was when I woke up suddenly, in the morning. The medication I was given is levitiractam (keppra) 500mg twice a day, which i have been taking for about two years, My questions are: how does keppra help against seizures? What does it mean to suddenly be diagnosed with seizures?(even though the MRI and EGG and other tests show normal) Sometimes when i am walking to school i feel dizzy even though i take my medication. Why is that?
479255 tn?1208116148 I'm on keppra. So far so good. I used to be quite irritable but once I understand that it was the side effects of keppra, I got hold on myself and tried my beat to be aware of my reactions to others. Reading Dale Carnegie's " How to stop worrying..." helps a lot in my recovery process. I've been on keppra for about two months. Anyone been on keppra for a longer period?
Avatar n tn He had been treated for epilepsy for 3 years without any control, and actually started having gran mal seizures while taking epilectic med Keppra I requested a cardiac work-up due to these gran mals occuring immediatly after exercise. He also had a hx of migraines after exercise, but these had subsided about the time I noticed these Absence seizure like activity. The cardiologist right away said he thought it was NCS, poss with a seizure disorder too.
Avatar f tn I have had these problems for 20 some years due to brain damage and keppra has not made it worse or changed anything for me though. I am on a high dose and on other seizure meds. You may want to see about a mood stabilizer for her I know she is young it may or may not work. If it is the med maybe switch meds no one needs to feel that way and I know from experience it's not fun not being yourself and putting others through it.
Avatar f tn no not on wellbutrin any longer, i started it long before I started Keppra. I've been on keppra for almost 2 months now. You would have to speak to your doc regarding any other AEDs that would work without effecting your daughters mood. so far havent recieved any benefit from lamictal as far as mood stabilizer goes but its only been 2 wks and I'm slowly increasing my dose. Lots of luck.
Avatar m tn side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others. Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)? We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.
327385 tn?1378360731 has the keppra helped you lose weight and how long did it take you to get use to the med? thanks for all your help .
Avatar m tn are you taking any other tablets for the seizures ? i have always been told keppra works best as a add on to other medications. it sounds like your gp is doing the right thing. the tests should rule out anything else. then if there are on other problems picked up you can try changing your meds 2000mg sounds like a realy high dose to me I'm only taking 500mg of kepra and 250mg of lomtrogine a day. might be worth trying to lower the dose and try another med with it.
