Keppra for seizures and migraines

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra for seizures and migraines

keppra

Avatar f tn Hello I have been taking Keppra for migraines. It doesn't seem to be helping much and I don't want to put up with the side effects. In my research I see that people take it mainly for seizures and taper off of it very slowly due to the risk of their seizures returning. My question is since I don't have seizures and was taking it for migraines is there any need to taper? Thanks for any info!
Avatar n tn The meds were changed to Keppra and Depikote--those allowed me to function and I went another 5 months without a seizure--then July 14, 2008--I had a seizure--I have had three more since then--the headaches are worse and more frequent--but do not akways precede the seizures--these are all starting with severe tremors in my right arm and hand--then my head starts and then my whole body----while they have always left me hurting in my muscles afterwards---my legs have really hurt with the recent
Avatar m tn I started having seizures when I was 12 yrs. and they put me on dilantin and other meds. they never got under control so good until I went to a new doctor (because I moved) and at that time I was about 38, and the doctor did a MRI and other test. He then said to me the first thing we have to do is get you off of dilantin. He showed me that that pill was eating up half of my brain (it is called cerebellar atrophy). He slowly put me on different levels of Keppra and I haven't been better.
Avatar f tn My daughter has done great on Keppra, except the irritability...the Dr.'s do not know if this is a side effect from the Keppra (I think it is) or because she is 7 and going thru changes....my personal opinion it is the Keppra, otherwise she has tolerated Keppra really well and has controlled her seizures real well. Good luck with it. I hope it works well for your girlfriend!! Stay on it for at least 2-3 months to give it a chance...
Avatar f tn I find that I get migraines a week before my periods and the first few days. Stress, emotion and lack of sleep triggers migraines and seizures. Since I was put on keppra and tegretol 2003 I don't have so much seizures anymore. I also fell pregnant which I had less seizures and migraines. My girl has turned out fine. I could not ask any better because it took the depression away. I hope you get better.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
Avatar f tn I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!) I have noticed the following: quick to get angry, short tempered, excessive crying, like to focus on negative conversations rather than the positive, I complain a lot, and I take it out on the ones I love most.
Avatar f tn He always got headaches in the car and a few times needed to go to the ER for pain relief...they said they were not migrainesand Cat Scans and MRI was always normal. At age 15 ½ he was coming off a sinus infection/antibiotics, when he had his first Gran Mal seizure after sleeping all night in a closed off bedroom with a new guitar case that was off gassing high levels of the neurotoxin, 1 methyl naphthalene. (Smelled like mothballs) They suspect it was the resin in the foam lining.
Avatar f tn It started with a severe bout of nystagmus that I went to the Dr. for. I was sent for an MRI because of my history of migraines and it was a new doctor. The MRI identified more than 30 non enhancing subcortical and deep periventricular white matter hyperintensities within each cerebral hemisphere. There were greater than nine T2 hyperintense lesions located in both a juxtacortical and periventricular locations.
Avatar f tn Complex partial seizures can develop into larger seizures (generalized seizures) and cause you to go unconscious. Again, I hope you can see your doctor soon. Try posting your question on the epilepsy forum. You will probably have better luck getting your questions answered.
Avatar n tn I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do? Signed.... Tami....
Avatar f tn The neurologist should star you on Clonidine to help with sedation and Topomax to avoid seizures and recurrence of migraines. You can also take an over the counter chelated magnesium that has been found helpful for migraines. I want you to make sure that you have a back up plan for dealing with your problems.
Avatar n tn Seizures continued for months until one day after having multiple seizures and calling the neuro office and being told that he would out grow it, I took him to his regular pediatrician....and just in time too I might add. As we walked in the door he had a tonic clonic seizure, stopped breathing and was immediately admitted to the hospital and started on phenobarbital..another eeg was done....NORMAL RESULTS AGAIN!!..No seizures during the eeg, so.......
Avatar f tn I now have a VNS (vagus nerve stimulator) implant in my chest that sends electrical shocks to my brain along with 2 anti-seizure meds (sometime 3) and I still have seizures. For the last 2 years I have also had severe migraines that have sometimes last for weeks. I now also have a Neurologist that specializes in Migraines and headache disorders.Having 2 different Neurologist seems pretty redundant to me especially since neither can seem to find the problem.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why I would be having seizures? I've been having them since I was about 10 years old. I have the mono-clonic & granmaw seizures. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 15. I've had an MRI done and quite a few EEG's, blood work, and a cat scan done. And my neurologist has come up with nothing. I was put on keppra for a year. And of course when I went to go have my EEG done for that year check up. It came back clear. So they took me off.
Avatar n tn Hello, I wish to have kids in a near future, currently I am taking Keppra (3,000 mg a day), it has completly control my seizures and I feel fortunately for this. However, I will like to know if this is a safe medicine to get pregnant with. I know it is still consider as new medicine for epilepsy, and there might be risks for birth defects. I just want to make sure if there has been new research about this medicine and pregnancy, I will like my future children to be healthy.
508033 tn?1211889477 I have been going through seizures since I was 12yrs. and now I'm 54. At first they were bad seizures and my neur. but me on dilantin and other meds. and then as I was growing up they would be daily and then they experment with my med levels and they got my seizures down to a couple a week. When I was about 34 I moved and had to go to another neur. and he took all kinds of test and a MRI.
6810737 tn?1385004768 There are a number of anti-seizure medications that she can and SHOULD be on with seizures occurring 2 days apart! Leveteracitam (keppra) is a GREAT drug that has to be given three times daily, but is not metabolized by the liver in the instance your vet is worried about your dog's liver function (just speculating as to why the dog is not on meds). Were you offered anti-seizure meds? I just wonder why she is only being treated with fluids...
Avatar f tn I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.
962492 tn?1247454619 Hi, Every time I have seizures, I shout nonsensical words (words like, "Ahhhh-Jahh!!!" or "Ehhh-Geee!!!"). Is this normal? (by the way, I have MANY seizures, every day, especially if I overdo things, because I take on extra fluid, and I believe that the fluid is pressing on my brain - I can actually hear fluid in my ears, when I shake my head - by the way, my edema is mostly on my right side, for some reason - my circulation problem is on both sides, however).
641243 tn?1235752084 Thanks for the great research Ginger. I confess, I have no idea what foreign companies are good or not when it comes to pet meds since I've always obtained mine from our vet. Kate - will you please let us know how Wentworth does with the keppra? My nephew has fairly severe epilepsy and keppra never seemed to help so they're weaning him off it now. What it DID do was send him out into the ozone and turn him into a drooling idiot, and he still had daily multiple seizures.
Avatar m tn My name is Joy and in 2000 I had a very large frontaltemporal meningioma removed by surgery I was lucky that I had a lot of medical training was an emt for 12 years and I recognized I was seriously ill and thought it was a brain tumor long story short I had a dr who kept telling me it was only job stress. At the time I was working at a medium security mens prison. Not stressful for me at all its just how you deal with life. Being a take c harge person I fired the quack dr.
Avatar m tn Keppra was added to my Pomeranians treatment and she stopped having seizures for about a year, prior having grand mal seizures constantly sometimes four a day....I highly recommend Keppra..
Avatar f tn s own complication so it is best to discuss the pros and cons with your neurosurgeon and go for it only if absolutely indicated, Please write to me again if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Good luck and take care!
Avatar m tn side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others. Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)? We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.
