Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain from tmj

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present. None of the doctors I have seen can give me a strtaight answer.
Avatar f tn Does anyone suffer from lower jaw pain? I have intermittent pain on both sides of my lower jaw but chewing doesn't make the pain worse.
Avatar f tn For years i had right jaw pain i am thinking tmj cause of bad dental work done and now i have horrible aching jaw and worst of all dull tight pressure temple pain. This ache worrys me more than the jaw. I am hoping its from the tmj. i have never been diagnosed seems like no doctor or dentist is interested in helping but is it normal to have the dull aching pressure in the ear and up to the temple and would a antiflamatory pill work to release the tense dull pressure.
Avatar m tn the left side of my neck hurts toward the side (main muscle/tendon going down from the jaw to the shoulder, and under my jaw, from what I can tell is inside my jaw. there are ridges on my jaw towards my chin that hurt, and also the space in between my jaw hurts. Don't know if it is glandular or tmj related. odd stuff. Cannot see my doc until next Thursday. anything that I can do?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with TMJ recently. I have been suffering from this pain for several years. Asking the dentist was no help, all he said was to wear a night guard. That helped for a short time. There are days that I still wake up with pain radiating from my right jaw all the way up the side of my head. It can last for days. I take naprosen for pain. That usually helps a little but I would like to find a more permanent treatment.
Avatar m tn m wondering if this could have something to do with my jaw. Does anyone have symptoms like this from TMJ? The only other TMJ symptom I have is that my jaw hinge clicks slightly whenever I open and close it, though I know this is common without TMJ. Or has anyone had any jaw issues that caused pain behind their eye?
451674 tn?1205658922 The problem I have is the first bite of food I put in my mouth causes SEVERE pain in joints of my jaw. This pain is excrutiating at first, I have to grab my jaws just to be able to handle the pain. It doesnt last long, maybe about 10 seconds. The dentist told me it was caused from my jaw being out of line, having so many missing back teeth. She said I could have surgery, where they would break my jaw and realign it. Whatever!! No one is breaking my jaw. I just live with it unfortunatly.
Avatar f tn Wondering if the problem that I have with my could cause jaw pain??? I noticed on Sunday afternoon when I was eating lunch that my jaw was hurting - hurt to open my mouth and hurt while chewing. I think I have TMJ, although no dentist has agreed with me, but my jaw clicks and I can see it shift when I open my mouth. So now I have this jaw pain that almost seems connected somehow to my neck -- just not sure if it's a possibility?? And how can I relieve it??!!?? Any input is appreciated!
Avatar n tn Over the course of a few weeks the pain started to subside and my jaw began to relax... Heat packs on my jaw to soothe the pain... He also suggested certain exercises to strengthen my neck and back muscles because they were weak from all the tension... I also did acupuncture... It also helped to calm and relax my muscles... Good luck!
Avatar m tnPain or tenderness of your jaw •Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints •Aching pain in and around your ear •Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing •Aching facial pain •Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth TMJ disorders can also cause a clicking sound or grating sensation when you open your mouth or chew.
1947337 tn?1331423890 You say you have good teeth, then does your jaw click when you bite or chew? You may have TMJ, which can cause nasty jaw pain. I have it. Muscle relaxers are usually the best treatment and massage of the jaw muscles outside of the jaw under your ears. Also, place your tongue at the bottom of your mouth flat. Try to pin the tip of your tongue to your bottom teeth. Then try to open your mouth straight without your jaw popping out of place.
Avatar m tn You may experience muscle spasms from TMJ syndrome. You may feel pain every time you talk, chew, or yawn. Pain usually appears in the joint itself, in front of the ear, but it may move elsewhere in the skull, face, or jaw. TMJ syndrome may cause ear pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss. Sometimes people mistake TMJ pain for an ear problem or sinus problem, such as an infection, when the ear or sinus' is not the problem at all.
644083 tn?1282604175 Hi there, back, head and shoulder pain can all be symptoms of the TMJ. We're all connected from head to to and if one is out of line, they all go out! I know how that feels. TMJ can happen for a lot of reason, but if your teeth are very crooked or the don't fit straight, it puts a lot of pressure on the jaw. It can happen if you've had an accident too, or from stress, or grinding at night. Uneven teeth can touch and make it very sore.
Avatar n tn t have any contraindications to taking Ibuprofen (eg. Motrin, Advil), I would recommend getting from from the drugstore and trying that to help with the pain until you can get in to see your dentist. TMJ disorders don't normally cause swelling that I have seen. Swollen glands and swelling generally indicate an infection, possibly from a dental abscess, impacted wisdom tooth, acute periodontal infection, etc.. It's best to have it checked out ASAP. 742330 tn?1350364850 Does anybody else have facial or tooth nerve pain from FMS, or is it the TMJ that I'm getting this pain from? I have an electricity-like pain in my cheekbone and tooth nerve when i barely put pressure on it. It's gotten to the point that i can't even sleep on that side anymore. does any one else have this problem?
Avatar n tn I dont feel any pain until i open my jaw more than half way. My ear feels like theres a lot of fluid in it. I was thinking it might be an ear infection. But why would my jaw really hurt to open more than half way? It doesnt hurt when I chew either. Does anyone know what I might have?
Avatar f tn I would avoid any orthodontic/surgical work until you figure out a little more about whats going on. Sometimes TMJ pain will subside over tiime, but if you are in pain do seek treatment.
Avatar f tn What would cause my bite to shift to the right and pain at the joint of my jaw on the right? Could this change account for my having a constant eadache?
Avatar n tn basically what this means is the joint where the upper and lower jaw meet is called in short the tmj. it can make a popping or clicking or cause pain. it sometimes can be helped by wearing a device that helps with the nightime grinding or clenching. chewing gum and hard foods will make it worse. your dentist needs to evaluate by an exam and probably a panoramic xray to look at the joint themselves. sometimes a poor bite is the cause which braces can help.
Avatar m tn hi i get jaw pain alot at night. i have a nite guard from the dentist but it doesnt always help. i get some bad headaches which is muscle pain as i get bothersome shoulders. and advil and tylenol dont help at all. the smornig i woke up and my left ear feels full. it was really itchy inside but only the outside of the ear hurts not the inside at all. i can feel that my jaw joint has like a knot in it. its the headaches i cant stand.
