Tmj jaw pain relief

Common Questions and Answers about Tmj jaw pain relief

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn basically what this means is the joint where the upper and lower jaw meet is called in short the tmj. it can make a popping or clicking or cause pain. it sometimes can be helped by wearing a device that helps with the nightime grinding or clenching. chewing gum and hard foods will make it worse. your dentist needs to evaluate by an exam and probably a panoramic xray to look at the joint themselves. sometimes a poor bite is the cause which braces can help.
Avatar m tn m wondering if this could have something to do with my jaw. Does anyone have symptoms like this from TMJ? The only other TMJ symptom I have is that my jaw hinge clicks slightly whenever I open and close it, though I know this is common without TMJ. Or has anyone had any jaw issues that caused pain behind their eye?
1232362 tn?1333135406 I kept telling everyone it was my JAW. I had pain in my jaw and it would shoot up into my brain and then cause a serious migraine. All they wanted to do was put me on this awful medication that I hated and it did nothing to relieve pain in jaw and head. Finally I went on the internet and researched about Jaw and Migraines and found 2 Drs. in my area that treated that very problem. I called, made an appt. The Dr. was my hero.
Avatar n tn i have suffered with TMJ for almost 14 yrs now, all of the symtoms u described are symtoms of TMJ. Aside from all of the advise already posted from other members, i found that wearing a mouth guard at night helps to relieve most if not all of the the things u described for me. I don't grind my teeth, only clench, but the mouth guard helps me alot.

Avatar f tn Have tried exercise, massage, prescription pain relief, including muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory, etc. Had brain stem scan, x-rays of neck and head, when initial problem began. Nothing remarkable showed up and no medication has shown any long-term benefits. Did have lumineers put on about 1 and 1/2 years ago. Surely it's not related. Did get some relief from anti-inflammatories, but as soon as I stop, pressure is back. Please help.
Avatar f tn Capsaicin with extended use actually decreases Substance P which is known to increase pain. So the more you use it the more likely you are to experience greater pain relief. Capsaicin is hot peppers so don't put it in front of your ear because you may get it in your eyes. It is a bit of a crap shoot as to what doctor is the best. An oral maxilliofacial surgeon looks after the physical aspects of jaw joint disorders.
Avatar f tn I've had TMJ/TMD for a little over a year. I first visited my dentist, who created a night guard for me - which didn't work. Then, I went to a TMJ specialist, who made a different night guard - which also didn't work. Now I'm in physical therapy . The physical therapist believes my TMJ is caused by my scoliosis, so we've been doing exercises for my spine - which of course, doesn't work.
Avatar m tn TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement and this can radiate to parts of your head. If it continues, then maybe a trip to your dentist might be of some help.
790137 tn?1318064425 What does everyone take for their TMJ pain? I did take Darvocets, but those were removed from the market, so what should I take now? What does everyone else take for their jaw pain that is so painful?
1098088 tn?1257867125 Seeing a competent tmj specialist may provide you more muscle pain relief. Left puffy eye is probaly autonomic nerve dysfunction. Seeing an orofacial pain specialist or neurologist is advised.
Avatar n tn But I also have pain in my jaw at random times that is true TMJ pain. I also have a sinus infection, which makes my jaw hurt too! 3. The tooth doesn't hurt spontaneously, but it's so close to my jaw, I'm paranoid that I'm mistaking a dying nerve for TMJ. Would a dying nerve react positively to heat or ice on the outside of the face? I use a heat pack or ice pack on my jaw and that takes the pain away.
1166456 tn?1417305537 Sadly the pain of tmj makes you think its way more serious than it is. I actually suffered from a 5 month tension headache because of my tmj-this headache never left. The pain had me believing I had a tumor or neuro problem! My nuerologist put me on pills and I'm doing a whole lot better now. If u have daily facial pain and skull tightness your prob suffering from tension headaches, suggest it to your neuro and damnd you deserve relief!
678100 tn?1245978921 Dental visits suck when you have TMJ. My dentist always does my work in small sessions because he knows how painful it is to keep my mouth open for a long time. Even with small sessions he has to give me pain killers to take home. Your situation *****. All I can suggest is avoid chewy foods and apply heat & cold to your jaw throughout the day. It probably won't take the pain away but it will help make things a little better. I have to do this often because my jaw is frequently sore.
Avatar n tn I had ten days of relief after my first set of injections. My pain specialist says I will even have more relief after the next set. I know this is not a cure but if it can help me to get thru the day without severe pain then it is worth doing!!!
1232362 tn?1333135406 The pain can be relieved with pain medication or lyrica which is indicated for neuropathic pain as in your case. If your pain medication do not work, stronger prescription pain medications may be indicated. In form your doctor about this if it persists. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend has been having jaw pain for almost a year now, and it is now causing tooth sensitivity, and neck pain which is also causing facial numbness. He's seen 2 dentists, a physician and 2 chiropractors and all anyone has done is prescribed valium and prescription-strength ibuprofin, as well as a custom-fitted nightguard.
Avatar n tn For a couple of weeks I have had a horrible aching pain in what feels like my lower jaw bone. The pain is so severe that I will wake up in the middle of the night and can do nothing to ease the pain. My teeth have also been very sensitive, even to drink a cold drink or hot tea. I have recently had a couple of cavities filled but this did not start untill a couple of weeks after so Im not sure if they are connected or not.
4494800 tn?1355440491 ear pain, temple pain, and bottom of jaw pain), the clicking in the back of your head would not fit. Clicking in the jaw joint, however would match up with a TMJ issue. So, you are likely describing two different things- one has to do with your TMJ, but the clicking in the back of your head (if not being misperceived as coming from that location) may have a different source- have you tried neck exercises where you hear this clicking? (I noticed you mentioned shaking your head)?
Avatar n tn ) This patient usually has no signs of any TMJ pain or problems. The physician or dentist may do a quick TMJ exam and find absolutely nothing wrong. This patient may not have ever had any signs of TMJ popping, clicking, or pain. There may never have been any signs of jaw or jaw joint problems. However, upon reading a proper transcranial x-ray there is undeniable proof that the joint is damaged and responsible for mediating the migraine problem.
Avatar n tn ve been having very similar symptoms as you where I have shooting pain behind my head and neck on the left side as well as my temple. Its a 24/7 constant pain and I have to take 800 mg ibuprofen just for some relief! I am in desperate need of an answer!
