Avatar n tn Apparently it is the scar tissue from the radiation that is causing this problem. From my readings and research they say its because of the lack of blood in the jaw bones. I would like to know is there anything at all that can be done. He has problems when he sees his dentist because he cant' open his mouth wide enough and we all know what happens to the saliva glands with radiation. I feel with all the technology they have today there has to be something that can be done.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed to her a radiation therapy. The 35 units of radiation therapy were done in August. As a result, Maryna had a radiation burn and as a result she experienced a lot of pain. In the middle of October 2012 the titanium plates installed earlier in the Ukrainian Military Academy were removed out of her mouth. Because of osteomyelities' presence, the doctors from the Ukrainian State Cancer Center were considered that the radiation therapy is contraindicated in the case.
Avatar f tn I am taking pills for bacteria in the mouth since April, had radiation therapy on the right side of my neck 12 years ago, tooth extract in February and had oxygen therapy (inside a "submarine") for 30 days last spring. Jawbone dead and gums will not heal. Could this have anything to do with the twitching?
Avatar n tn The pain also might be coming from the position they have your arm up in during radiation. I remember the unusual positioning of the arm on my cancer side though I had mastectomies and if you've had pain prior to radiation it's likely the unusual positioning of your arm for the duration of the treatment. I recommend very light stretching exercises moving your arm slowly up the wall "walking your fingers up the wall" and back down.
Avatar n tn In the last four years the PSA has slowly crept higher reaching 0.577 in August of 2008. I recently scheduled radiation therapy with my radiation oncologist, but I am quite concerned about the side effects, especially permanent side effects. I am wondering if I am rolling the dice with a loss of quality of life, in trade for a possible three or four extension of life span. Could you please address these concerns. Thank you for your consideration.
Avatar n tn What are the common effects of radiation therapy? This discussion is related to Phylloides Tumor.
Avatar n tn I understand what you are saying. You are noticing behavior similar to what I have noticed in my husband. It is difficult to explain to anyone else, but you know what is normal for him. It can be difficult at times when you relied on him to take care of certain things and now you aren't sure whether you can. Six years ago my husband had a cancerous lump removed from under his right jawbone and underwent 8 weeks of radiation.
Avatar n tn I think that your mom will have the best advice from her own treating Doctor/Oncologist regarding traditional radiation therapy, since the "Single-Dose Breast Cancer Radiation Therapy"needs further studies. Best wishes to both you and your mom.
Avatar m tn s a very good idea to seek therapy ~ it can make a world of difference in your life! Regarding the jaw pain; clenching jaw muscles can affect your neck and jaw, it is actually a common symptom for many people who suffer from anxiety. If it is extreme, you can ask your dentist for a mouth guard, which can help reduce the pain and also save your teeth from any future damage ( use it at night while you sleep, or if you nap anytime)...
Avatar n tn I had breast cancer in 2005. I had surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. A year later I started feeling pain in my left rib cage, just below the left breast. I thought that I had busted a rib, but I didn't. Could this pain be caused from radiation therapy? It seems to be getting worse over time. Every time I sneeze or cough I have to support my left side. It even hurts when I do nothing. Please send me some input on this. Thank You.
701810 tn?1230692075 Around 15 years ago he had a cancerous lump removed from the base of his tongue down his neck and had radiation on his neck and back of jaw. He had to have all his top and bottom back teeth taken out and his long neck muscle that runs down to his shoulder. He no longer produces saliva and carries a water bottle with him 24/7 to moisten his mouth and throat. He has managed this well considering. .
Avatar n tn Hi The radiation therapy that you received seven years ago for the breast cancer and the therapy you are receiving now for the rotator cuff injury are two different forms of radiation. The radiation therapy given for the cancer can over a long term lead to skin changes such as decreased elasticity, pigmentation changes, decreased skin thickness, decreased blood circulation etc. These changes can affect healing and sensations.
Avatar f tn I am Hep C pos (genome type 1b), recently had a liver biopsy and was told that my liver is in Stage 2, Grade 3 condition. I was scheduled to begin the peglated interferon/ribavirin treatment, but then learned that I have an acoustic neuroma (I started to experience significant hearing loss in my left ear, and an MRI showed a very large tumor on my left side, sitting on my 8th cranial nerve. It is a benign tumor). My Hepatologist decided to hold off treating my Hep C until I had the AN treated.
Avatar f tn Greetings I had a lumpectomy on April 2, 2009. Since then I have been anxiously awaiting my follow-up appt. with my surgeon. as it turns out my appt. was a great disappointment b/c I found out that it was just so she could see how my incision was healing and not to find out about subsequent therapies. That appt. was then set up for May 27.
Avatar f tn I have had a consistant sore throat, bit of ear pain, swollen glands and jaw ache, plus sharp pain in jaw when trying to eat, for over a month now. Dr gave me antibiotics but it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this please?
Avatar f tn My oral surgeon suggested some exercises I could do and it did help a little. The instant headache pain i had went away because the regular jaw joint pain I was having suddenly didn't reach my right eye . I have had no improvement since and my o/s wants me to start therapy. Will this help ? Starting to think there will be no end to this , each meal is painful , getting really sick of this.
Avatar f tn Has anyone developed scar tissue and thickening of the skin due to radiation therapy? My skin is so damaged that a biopsy , 1 year after radiation took months to heal. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, what course of treatment did you follow.
Avatar m tn I have had radiation therapy for my hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease). I need to know what kind of supplements I should take. I have noticed that I am having trouble healing from some sort of infection, or healing from cuts etcs. https://www.google.com.
Avatar m tn --- We talked it over and decided the extra 12 months gained by missing half his jaw and what ever other weaknesses due to the surgery and radiation just wasn't right for all of us. I would never have believed he would carry on this way for 27 months. He takes tramadol at bedtime because we noticed him clinching his jaw in the night. I have also been washing the area with warm salt water to keep an eye on it and when infection set in we started him on clindamycin orally.
Avatar n tn I would reserve radiation for poorly controlled pain (say from a metastases to bone or to a lymph node with nerve impingement) or because of vaginal bleeding from tumor recurrence in the vagina. Otherwise, I would lean more to consideration of other chemo. This s a tough problem. I wish you all the best.
492898 tn?1222243598 When you have been diagnosed with bc, and have had chemo and radiation, how great is the risk of the therapy itself leading to another cancer, and what kinds? Also, my 18 year old son has had many x-rays because he often injures himself. His father died of colon cancer, and I had it, even if we were the first in our families. how great is my son's risk?
