Common Questions and Answers about Is blood type o universal

Avatar m tn Dear Doctor, You said, “O is universal donor so if a donor has an O blood type they can donate to anyone” in this forum. Means, if I A+ & my donor O+, so can donate the part of liver for me? Pls.
Avatar n tn Hello cdc29, Just reading your question with regards to blood type. If the father is O pos and the the mother is A pos you can NOT produce an offspring that is B neg. Here is why, we will deal with the blood groups and leave out the Rh factor for simplicity (will explain that after).
Avatar f tn Any woman who is a negative blood type has to get the shot if baby is positive blood type it's just normal
Avatar f tn But if you do get injured, just make sure to inform your doctor. O- it's not a bad thing... we are actually universal donors. Blood banks like our blood because they use it for premature babies since no blood type will reject it. The downfall of course is that we are only able to receive O- blood.
Avatar m tn Can a donated liver with blood type O be used in a Person with blood type A? Yes, a type O donor is a universal donor and a type O liver can be transplanted into any blood type recipient - O - A - B - AB.
Avatar n tn O+ is the most common type of blood to have. It is like a universal kind of blood when you donate too, almost anyone can accept it.
Avatar n tn however, also being an o+ myself, i would be aware of your labs and make sure they know you are O......beings that O is the universal donor but can only receive from itself. in other words had you needed blood and someone relied on the first blood result they might have killed you. :O) i loved genetics in school!
Avatar f tn my blood type is o+ and my husband believes his is o-. i am 24 weeks and see my dr on the 14th... im just wondering would i have to take the shots like someone with rh- blood bc the fact im a pos blood type and if he is a neg type??
Avatar f tn I just recently asked what was my blood type because my mom told me I was o-negative. Well I found out that I am but I never received a Rhogam shot. My doctor has never even discussed it with me. Is this a big issue? Will this cause any complications? Has anyone else dealt with this????
1230912 tn?1273496370 A and B blood are dominant over O simply because O has no antigens on the surface of its red blood cells. But antigen D is present in O+ blood. Many A blooded folks are actually AO blooded and some B blooded folks are BO blooded as well. That is precisely why the blood type diet work great with some folks but not so great with others. You gave your son an A- ABO copy and your husband gave your son a O+ ABO copy so yes he did test positive for the A blood group he actually is A-/O+.
Avatar f tn you can wait until you're baby is born and get the blood tested. If the baby is negative blood type you will not need the shot. The shot itself creates a desensitization of your blood for the positive blood type so your negative blood will not attack and eliminate the Positive blood. Clearly this is detrimental to all future babies of positive blood type cannot survive the hostile negative blood... it's actually quite remarkable we have the option of Rhogam.
Avatar n tn I think Dumb *** is well named. He fails to understand that people are serious and have important quaetions and information to share. He is a dumb ***.
Avatar f tn There is nothing suspicious about this. Had it been the other way around- type O parents having a type B child- that would have raised serious questions. Sorry to hear your family has been abusive to you.
Avatar f tn 0- is not rare but it the universal blood type.. It is the only type of blood that can mix into any other type of blood with out any complications... Although being pregnant and having this blood type the body generally does try to regect the baby.. It is VERY NORMAL to get that shot actually they generally give every pregnant woman that shot just in case so the body doesnt regect the baby..
Avatar m tn O is universal donor so if a donor has an O blood type they can donate to anyone
Avatar f tn You are so very kind and giving to be even considering continuing to give blood. Are you O negative? I know that is highly valued as it is the universal donor type. I am currently not accepted for donation; they tell me I have to wait till I am at least 6 months post-surgery. My surgery was 4/15.
Avatar f tn My Dad is O+ and my Mum is A2B+ but my blood type is B-. How is this possible?
Avatar n tn The news mentioned this last week - "New research shows your blood type may make you more susceptible to catching coronavirus. The study published in Wuhan, China compared blood types in 2,173 people in Wuhan and Shenzhen with COVID-19 to more than 3,600 healthy people in the same areas. It showed people with type A blood are more likely to catch the virus and die from it.
Avatar f tn Someone who is rh+ would not have any problems carrying a Rh- baby, O Rh- is the universal blood donor type, meaning that we can donate blood to any other blood group, however we can only recieve blood from O Rh- and I think one other (been too long since university!
Avatar n tn BigDaddy is correct... 'Recipients with blood type O... can receive from blood type O only.' I am blood type O and waiting for a liver transplant. Patients with blood type O have the longest wait times of all blood types for deceased donor livers, as most people waiting for a liver transplant are blood type O. It is also the most common blood type. We can only except a liver from another type O donor. A living donor liver is the best option for obtaining a transplant quickly.
Avatar f tn A diagnosis code is just a numbered code the insurance industry uses that is universal in the medical community so they can decide whether they will or won't pay for a particular procedure. If the diagnosis code wrrants having a particular procedure done, then the insurance company will pay for it. For example, if a patient has knee pain, and the doc wants an X-Ray, the doc will use the Code for "knee pain," and the procedure code for "X-Ray.

284738 tn?1283110419 Look at the bright side, O- is called the universal donor because no matter what blood type you have, you can receive blood from someone who is O-. So you could give blood (after your baby is born) and maybe save another baby's life.
Avatar n tn Blood group type - O, Rhesus positive (rh +). Meaning your blood group is O+. Congratulations, your blood group type is a universal donor blood type. You can donate your blood to practically everyone else except for those who are Rhesus negative (rh -) O rh+ is in no way about your hiv status. Now, your have had unprotected intercourse in march, so your were at risk. Follow canermy's advice and you can test now to know for sure. All the best and take care ok?
1342206 tn?1276146157 my dad is type O+ and my mother is type A2b+ i don't have clue to what my blood type might be and last time i went to the doctor i forgot to ask them what my blood type was?
Avatar f tn I think it started soon after I stopped but not sure how soon because my memory is shot at this point. Also let me throw in the numb/tingly tongue which feels like it burns or something. This is NOT a constant. Right now I am fine. I went thru tx without physical sx to speak of. Did anyone experience this after tx? I'm trying to think positive and tell myself that the virus is gone and NOW I am getting NORMAL menopause symptoms,,,but its just strange that it STARTED right after tx.
Avatar f tn No real research has been done on type 1... But what is known is that type 1 is an autoimmune disease. I tell ya, I'd WAY rather have diabetes than untreated HCV. How do I know? Cause I've got BOTH.
Avatar f tn donor, the liver is available now as long as the donor passes the many tests. As for the blood type, I am also type O. Type O blood is hardest because someone with O type can only receive O type blood. On the other hand Type O is good to have as a donor.
