Blood type o universal

Common Questions and Answers about Blood type o universal

Avatar f tn They only give you O type blood if they have to because its a neutral blood type and your body wont reject it.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor, You said, “O is universal donor so if a donor has an O blood type they can donate to anyone” in this forum. Means, if I A+ & my donor O+, so can donate the part of liver for me? Pls.
Avatar n tn Hello cdc29, Just reading your question with regards to blood type. If the father is O pos and the the mother is A pos you can NOT produce an offspring that is B neg. Here is why, we will deal with the blood groups and leave out the Rh factor for simplicity (will explain that after).
Avatar f tn I had it before and will need it again with this little one. I'm not gonna lie the shot hurt a lot lol. Other than that your baby will be fine.
Avatar f tn But if you do get injured, just make sure to inform your doctor. O- it's not a bad thing... we are actually universal donors. Blood banks like our blood because they use it for premature babies since no blood type will reject it. The downfall of course is that we are only able to receive O- blood.
Avatar m tn Can a donated liver with blood type O be used in a Person with blood type A? Yes, a type O donor is a universal donor and a type O liver can be transplanted into any blood type recipient - O - A - B - AB.
Avatar n tn They're right too, it's almost universal, you can give your blood to any blood type that is a +, but you can only receive the O's (O- is the universal donor, AB- is the universal recipient). SInce you are positive that means you won't need the Rhogam shot, yay! I'm an O+ too and so glad I didn't need the shot. Congrats on baby!
Avatar n tn however, also being an o+ myself, i would be aware of your labs and make sure they know you are O......beings that O is the universal donor but can only receive from itself. in other words had you needed blood and someone relied on the first blood result they might have killed you. :O) i loved genetics in school!
Avatar f tn my blood type is o+ and my husband believes his is o-. i am 24 weeks and see my dr on the 14th... im just wondering would i have to take the shots like someone with rh- blood bc the fact im a pos blood type and if he is a neg type??
Avatar f tn I just recently asked what was my blood type because my mom told me I was o-negative. Well I found out that I am but I never received a Rhogam shot. My doctor has never even discussed it with me. Is this a big issue? Will this cause any complications? Has anyone else dealt with this????
1230912 tn?1273496370 The first I had a I dont know what blood type the baby other two are both O Negitive...But they gave me the shot anyway...they said to help protect the next baby if there was another pregnancy.
Avatar f tn You only need a Rhogam shot if your negative blood type and your partner is a positive blood type. You do not need to get the shot while ur pregnant if it's your very first pregnancy or unless you endure serious trauma, such as a bad car accident that would potential damage to your can wait until you're baby is born and get the blood tested. If the baby is negative blood type you will not need the shot.
Avatar n tn Obviously you both have a dominant O blood type but you might also have a recessive A blood type. This would explain how the child got the A blood type. One recessive A from mom and one recessive from dad. The positive and negative factor (RH factor) is a protein marker and is not connected with the blood type. Most likely the baby got recessive A's from both of you then a negative from the person who had the negative RH factor.
Avatar n tn Is that true--- I have type AB+ blood n the father has/had type O? I have 2 children-- they both have type AB+ blood type. I am confused???? n startled now, by that????
Avatar f tn There is nothing suspicious about this. Had it been the other way around- type O parents having a type B child- that would have raised serious questions. Sorry to hear your family has been abusive to you.
Avatar f tn 0- is not rare but it the universal blood type.. It is the only type of blood that can mix into any other type of blood with out any complications... Although being pregnant and having this blood type the body generally does try to regect the baby.. It is VERY NORMAL to get that shot actually they generally give every pregnant woman that shot just in case so the body doesnt regect the baby..
Avatar m tn O is universal donor so if a donor has an O blood type they can donate to anyone
Avatar f tn You are so very kind and giving to be even considering continuing to give blood. Are you O negative? I know that is highly valued as it is the universal donor type. I am currently not accepted for donation; they tell me I have to wait till I am at least 6 months post-surgery. My surgery was 4/15.
Avatar f tn My Dad is O+ and my Mum is A2B+ but my blood type is B-. How is this possible?
Avatar n tn The news mentioned this last week - "New research shows your blood type may make you more susceptible to catching coronavirus. The study published in Wuhan, China compared blood types in 2,173 people in Wuhan and Shenzhen with COVID-19 to more than 3,600 healthy people in the same areas. It showed people with type A blood are more likely to catch the virus and die from it.
Avatar f tn Someone who is rh+ would not have any problems carrying a Rh- baby, O Rh- is the universal blood donor type, meaning that we can donate blood to any other blood group, however we can only recieve blood from O Rh- and I think one other (been too long since university!
Avatar m tn * Approximately the same weight and body size as the recipient * Free from disease, infection, or injury that affects the liver * Usually of the same or a compatible blood type (see table below) BLOOD TYPE COMPATIBILITY CHART FOR LIVER TRANSPLANT Blood Type Can receive a liver from Can generally donate a liver to O O O, A, B, AB A
Avatar n tn Recipients with blood type O... can receive from blood type O only Recipients with blood type A... can receive from blood types A and O Recipients with blood type B... can receive from blood types B and O Recipients with blood type AB...
284738 tn?1283110419 Look at the bright side, O- is called the universal donor because no matter what blood type you have, you can receive blood from someone who is O-. So you could give blood (after your baby is born) and maybe save another baby's life.
Avatar n tn Blood group type - O, Rhesus positive (rh +). Meaning your blood group is O+. Congratulations, your blood group type is a universal donor blood type. You can donate your blood to practically everyone else except for those who are Rhesus negative (rh -) O rh+ is in no way about your hiv status. Now, your have had unprotected intercourse in march, so your were at risk. Follow canermy's advice and you can test now to know for sure. All the best and take care ok?
1342206 tn?1276146157 my dad is type O+ and my mother is type A2b+ i don't have clue to what my blood type might be and last time i went to the doctor i forgot to ask them what my blood type was?
Avatar f tn donor, the liver is available now as long as the donor passes the many tests. As for the blood type, I am also type O. Type O blood is hardest because someone with O type can only receive O type blood. On the other hand Type O is good to have as a donor.
Avatar n tn If a transplant were necessary you would need a live donor because I presume the liver function is normal--the donor would need to be the same blood type or O blood type.
Avatar n tn O pos is the universal donor.O neg is the universal takes only a few minutes to type and X match a blood sample, and the risk is too great not to do that.........kidney failure comes to mind first, plus shock. It isn't worth it, even in a critical could kill them and send them right over the edge............and it just takes a few munites to do it right.
Avatar n tn It's because with an rh blood type it can be harmful for the baby if he/she has a positive blood type and they don't want the baby to get sick. They told me as long as I got the shot around the 28th week the baby will be just fine. Also, there weren't any side effects for me at all with the shot just a poke in the bum haha. I read a few articles on how it could be dangerous but the doctor said that it was false, millions of women get the shot.
