1149087 tn?1415316549 if i react with depression to interferon beta 1a, is it also highly likely i will develop depression as a side effect in response to interferon beta 1b? i can see that my neurologist probably wants to enable me to be more flexible with having to inject less- but what good is it if i'm depressed- can't do anything then anyway. now for something completely different: i hope you are feeling better again! i saw your post saying you would be off for a while as you weren't feeling great.
198419 tn?1360242356 the side effects and the damage it was doing to my body was worse than MS. I hope it works well for others, but Imy body couldn't handle it.
2112931 tn?1335098402 News article confused me, because interferon beta-1a is available in the U.S. (as Avonex and Rebif). However, the official release clarifies that "the trial was conducted with the human serum albumin-free formulation of interferon beta-1a," and that isn't available in the U.S. So while I don't know the difference, it's not really a new drug they're using here. Nevertheless, the study's approach to treatment, and its positive results, is interesting.
560501 tn?1383612740 Earlier Phase 2 studies showed that treatment with alemtuzumab reduced the accumulation of disability and the frequency of relapses in people with early relapsing-remitting MS, compared to Rebif® (interferon-beta-1a-rebif/index.aspx, interferon beta-1a, EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc.). (New England Journal of Medicine 2008 359;17:30-45) Rebif is a registered trademark of EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/news/news-detail/index.aspx?
Avatar f tn ) Pharmacokinetics The pharmacokinetics of Rebif® (interferon beta-1a) in people with multiple sclerosis have not been evaluated. In healthy volunteer subjects, a single subcutaneous (sc) injection of 60 mcg of Rebif® (liquid formulation) resulted in a peak serum concentration (Cmax) of 5.1 ± 1.7 IU/mL (mean ± SD), with a median time of peak serum concentration (Tmax) of 16 hours.
198419 tn?1360242356 In another study, called TENERE, Aubagio was compared with Rebif® (interferon beta-1a, EMD Serono and Pfizer) in relapsing MS, and did not reach its primary endpoint (the main question posed by the study) -- the “risk of failure,” meaning the first occurrence of a relapse, or permanent discontinuation of the study treatment, whichever came first.
Avatar n tn You are taking rebif, which is interferon beta-1a used for relapsing MS. you could be suffering from jaw muscle spasms causing tongue and lip bites. You may be experiencing numbness in the tongue, a common symptom of multiple sclerosis per se. Review with your neurologist if your disease spectrum has changed and for these newer symptoms. He might like to add some muscle relaxant like tizanidine, baclofen or carbamazepine. You are welcome with any further clarifications. God bless.
Avatar f tn I took Avonex for three years and unfortunately I was one of those that always had side effects, so I gave up. With Rebif you are taking an even higher dose of Interferon Beta 1-A than Avonex users. I have heard that Rebif users start to notice a reduction in side effects after more time on the drug. There is that chance that could happen for you. I would talk things over with your doctor.
572735 tn?1217201019 ( AVONEX, REBIF,COPAXONE BETA, TYSABRI?) I AM ,I HAVE TRIED ALL, GETTING READY TO TRY BETA, MY DOC WONT PUT ME ON TYSABRI, AFTER THIS WHATS NEXT? I DONT WANT TO GIVE UP. I'M SO DEPRESSED I'M AFARID IM GONNA BE ALLERGIC TO BETA THAN WHAT? PENNY K.
572651 tn?1530999357 The Comparison of Alemtuzumab and Rebif® Efficacy in Multiple Sclerosis (CARE-MSSM) I and II studies are designed to determine the safety and effectiveness of the investigational drug alemtuzumab as compared to the FDA-approved therapy Rebif (interferon beta-1a), in adults with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The studies will look for differences between these drugs on the progression of disability and in the number of relapses (flare-ups) and brain lesions caused by MS.
675058 tn?1226445723 It is not an interferon. I am actually on this med because of the low risk of side effects. (I have none, except for the occasional welt.) It works differently then interferons, in that it acts kind of like a "decoy" for the cells that are attacking your CNS. Maybe g o o g l e it for more info, or others here will tell you about it.
470613 tn?1207312671 Avonex and Rebif are Interferon-beta-1a. The difference is in their dosage, their frequency of administration and the route of administration. Avonex is 33mcg given once weekly into the muscle. It has the lowest frequency of side effects and of developing neutralizing antibodies. Rebif is 44mcg given three times a week subcutaneously. It has a higher frequency of side effects and antibodies. This is due to the dose. Betaseron is Interferon-beta-1b.
198419 tn?1360242356 Morning! I'm looking for a little help researching anaphylaxis reaction with recombinant interferon beta 1a. I don't need the amount of cases in the reporting or if it has happened. I'm more-so seeking clinical/scientific case reports that discuss various testing mechanisms when hypersensitive or anaphylaxis reactions were though to be cause by the interferon.

1755625 tn?1421447637 I got mixed advice when I was taking interferon. The pharmacist and the injection nurse at the clinic I attend both told me to wear a face mask around people, because they were sure I was taking something that would lower my immune system. But when the Rebif nurse visited me at home, she explained that the type of interferon we take (interferon beta 1a or 1b) affect T cells, and don't have a seriously averse affect on our immune systems.
Avatar f tn Iam on Avonex, the lower dose of Interferon-beta-1a. My neuro thought I was having a pretty benign course and recommended it. We are rethinking that. With your heavy lesion load and horrific symptoms I think you might want to consider the higer dose Rebif, which many people are trying for people who might be nearing SPMS. As for another difference, Avonex is "intramuscular." You gotta push (goes in like butter) that baby in to the hilt.
Avatar f tn A few people breeze through tx (treatment) with hardly any problems, the majority seem to have a couple of mild to moderate level sx (side effects), a smaller percentage have severe side effects that may prevent them from working and may require additional "rescue" meds to manage, and a very few may have such severe sx that they have to be taken off tx early.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking the Telepriver protocol with copeg/pegasys interferon/ribavirin etc,,, am in my fourth week and I have some very uncomfortable side effects. 1713150 tn?1314467342 I inject myself at night before I go to sleep hoping to not be awake through any of the side effects. Well, when I woke up in the middle of the night (2amish) I felt horrable. My head was pounding and I couldn't stop crying. I wanted to get up to get some advil and I couldn't get the "strength" to move from my bed. Lol I have no issues with walking or anything but the strength part came from somewhere in myself I have never fwlt before.
