Avatar m tn http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/578705 Ribavirin improves early responses to peginterferon through improved interferon signaling. Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar m tn Dear p1954 Carvedilol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It is responsible for inhibition of beta receptors present ubiquitously on the heart muscle. By blocking these receptors, it helps prevent the effects of adrenaline/noradrenaline on the heart thereby maintaining a low heart rate and reducing the energy expended by the heart per beat.
2112931 tn?1335098402 The link to the official press release is here: http://www.aan.com/press/index.cfm?fuseaction=release.view&release=1061 The U.S. News article confused me, because interferon beta-1a is available in the U.S. (as Avonex and Rebif). However, the official release clarifies that "the trial was conducted with the human serum albumin-free formulation of interferon beta-1a," and that isn't available in the U.S.
675058 tn?1226445723 Are you facing a decision about choosing a med? Of the four approved for use in MS, three are Interferons (specifically beta-1a) and one, Copaxone is not. They are all about equally effective in RRMS. Do you have concerns about being on an interferon?
1149087 tn?1415316549 s the interferon part of the med which causes depression, so yes, I would expect that Betaseron (interferon-beta-1b) would be more likely than Rebif to cause the problem as it is the highest dose of all. You are very welcome - in all ways.
394687 tn?1290920840 2 Caution - The interaction may occur based on the mechanism of action of the co-administered medicines. Be alert for increased or decreased effect, depending on the combination of medicines. Documentation Level : Limited - Few reports of this interaction exist. These few reports usually consist of limited case reports where clinically sound justification of the interaction is found.
560501 tn?1383612740 Earlier Phase 2 studies showed that treatment with alemtuzumab reduced the accumulation of disability and the frequency of relapses in people with early relapsing-remitting MS, compared to Rebif® (interferon-beta-1a-rebif/index.aspx, interferon beta-1a, EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc.). (New England Journal of Medicine 2008 359;17:30-45) Rebif is a registered trademark of EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc. http://www.nationalmssociety.org/news/news-detail/index.aspx?
Avatar m tn I assume you refer to interferon beta-1a or 1-b injections, glatiramer acetate injections or natalizumab injection. Even though these drugs are immunosuppressants, there is no evidence that they can produce a late HIV sero-conversion, even though the literature on this is limited, but their mechanism of action is different to the production of HIV antibodies. In any case, I strongly beleive that all of this is irrelevant in your case, becuase you did not put yourself at risk whatsoever.
147426 tn?1317265632 In this post-hoc study, MRI scans were analyzed from patients with relapsing MS participating in a placebo-controlled trial of interferon beta-1a. The brain parenchymal fraction, defined as the ratio of brain parenchymal volume to the total volume within the brain surface contour, was used to measure whole brain atrophy. The relationship between disease features and brain atrophy and effect of interferon beta-1a were determined.
Avatar n tn s in a low percentage of patients. You would want to find out whether the interferon beta-1a has any affect on the HCV viral replication and if so, the risks associated with further inflammation, plus the possibility of whether your body could withstand the current IFN 2a regime. Have you been told the genotype of your HVC? I'm not overly familiar with how MS is treated with IFN, but we do have some knowledgeable people on board, so hopefully someone else will chime in to assist.
198419 tn?1360242356 I am no expert, but since three of the CRAB drugs are interferon beta (either 1a or 1b), they should all have the similar benefits/risks.
Avatar f tn boceprevir is in pharmacies now telaprevir should be by the end of the month they both have the same mechanism of action ( protease inhibitors ) and are comparable in efficacy mimi that 70% is for first timers only
975968 tn?1248139716 Your doctor's advice is pretty good in my opinion. 400,000 is a low VL and will increase your odds of curing (SVR or Sustained Viral Response) by quite a bit but if your damage is not severe (stage 3 or 4), you keep avoiding stuff like alcohol and keep an eye out for changes in bloodwork, the new drugs (protease inhibitors Boceprevir and Teleprevir) have a good chance of being on the market in late 2011 or soon after.
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
Avatar n tn You are taking rebif, which is interferon beta-1a used for relapsing MS. you could be suffering from jaw muscle spasms causing tongue and lip bites. You may be experiencing numbness in the tongue, a common symptom of multiple sclerosis per se. Review with your neurologist if your disease spectrum has changed and for these newer symptoms. He might like to add some muscle relaxant like tizanidine, baclofen or carbamazepine. You are welcome with any further clarifications. God bless.
Avatar m tn Re-infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) is very important for prognosis after liver transplantation of HCV cirrhosis. In the mechanism of re-infection of HCV, the peri-transplant immunity including the immunosuppression must be very important for getting the solution of prevention of its infection. (please rewrite this phrase). In this study, we investigated the influences of intraportal DST for HCV-reinfection after living related liver transplantation (LRLT).
Avatar f tn d beta blockers, both for cardiac symptoms and for anxiety. While all beta blockers have a similar mechanism of action, some work better than others for some people depending on the reason it's needed in the first place. Start by having a discussion with your doctor...ask him why he chose the med he did for your condition, and if it would be the most optimal choice for treatment of concurrent anxiety in addition to the heart issues. Then you could ask about the Inderal.
