Imitrex with alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex with alcohol

imitrex

Avatar n tn 5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head. I could not move my arms or legs. I could not swallow my drool. I swear if my breathing and blinking where not involuntary I would not have been doing either of those. I have met someone else that this has happened before to them as well. But the time it took their body to recover was about 30-45 mins much shorter then my own.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
635402 tn?1270162477 Silberstein of the Jefferson Headache Center was able to demonstrate through research, that Imitrex combined with naprosyn taken at the onset of a migraine was better in treating that migraine than either drug alone. Such a combination is deemed synergistic, meaning basically that two plus two equals ten. Naprosyn is the prescription form of Aleve which is sold over the counter and is an anti-inflammatory. Once this research was confirmed, GSK began to develop a combination drug.
411939 tn?1281598444 t run in my family but once I had my baby girl I get them almost daily. If they get to bad and you get them everyday go check with your doctor to make sure nothings wrong.
518798 tn?1295212279 My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!
Avatar n tn Treatment for migraines include drugs that prevent the attack like anti convulsants and drugs which treat an attack like triptans, ergots etc. discuss these with your neurologist with regards to your condition. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn I have tried several different preventative medications including Inderal LA, which I no longer take. I now take Imitrex 100mg PRN- but have noticed a few changes in my symptoms. I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise. Imitrex and 3 excedrin usually helped.
Avatar n tn Next my doctor switched me to Midrin, which sometimes relieved the pain, but mostly made me sleepy. Now I have Imitrex 25 mg which seems to make no difference at all. I have even taken 2 or 3 of them with no effect, which gets really expensive at $17 a pill. Some of the migraines are lasting 2 days and I have trouble sleeping when I have them. I wake every 30 minutes or so because the pain is so bad. I'm out of Imitrex and have no intention of getting a refill.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar n tn You probably will not be asked to stop the imitrex if you take within 48 hours of the procedure, but you should discuss this with the testing lab. The supplements you mention will likely not need to be stopped. I would advise you to contact the lab who is performing the tests and ask them what their preferences are. Many labs will have different preferences on what medications should and should not be stopped.
Avatar f tn The first step is to identify the triggers which can be shellfish, nuts, chocolates, caffeine, alcohol and artificial sweeteners. You can use a headache diary to identify the trigger for ovular migraines in your case. Pharmacological treatment includes analgesics, Imitrex and cafergot to abort acute attacks. Biofeedback therapy is also known to help. I would suggest you to discuss the treatment options with your ophthalmologist.
Avatar f tn No, if it is the branded version of Imitrex with no additional additives. There could be some other variants that include NSAIDS but you should double check with your Doctor as to which version was prescribed. I agree Maxalt seems to be the better drug especially the MLT version as it gets into the blood stream much quicker.
Avatar f tn I find Ibupropin helps a lot if the Imitrex doesn't work or vice versa. Then I got vertigo in my 40's and I would just fall down. It is due to the migraine not the inner ear. I have become hypothyroid too. They now have me on Topamax which took away my migraine headaches but not the auras and I don't have vertigo anymore either. I also take a half of a 25mg of amitriptilyne still too. They had tried cyproheptadine but that didn't work either.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor. But my neurologist prescribed both 10 mg of Amitriptyline and Imitrex. So I think it should be fine. You can ask a pharmacist or your doctor to make sure. But I am on both of those plus Trokendi XR and Clonazepam.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
Avatar n tn Hi. My 9-year old daughter has been struggling with bouts of abdominal pain and severe vomiting for the past year. She has had an upper G.I., upper endoscopy, MRI of her brain, EEG, ultrasound of abdomen and kidneys, CT scan, bloodwork on cortisol levels - all with completely normal results. She's been hospitalized 4 times for dehydration and pain management, with morphine being what helps the most.
768044 tn?1294223436 Because I think getting Imitrex injections at the hospital is either the same thing or probably very similar to a prescription for Imitrex Injection, although I guess the difference is that by the time you get to the hospital it has already been a very long time so it might not work as well... but still, experiences with Imitrex injections at the hospital would be good to know about too. Thanks!!
Avatar f tn Hello, hope this finds you feeling better. Taking too much Imitrex can cause SERIOUS medical, long term problems with your cadiovascular system just for starters. You can also get very painful rebound headaches from taking too much medicine in a short period of time. In lieu of medication, try massage therapy. For the pain, sometimes Peppermint Essential Oil can help.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from migranes for 25 years now and have been using Imitrex successfully to relieve the attacks (usually several times a monthy, primarily around the time of my menstrual period). in the past year, i have been suffering EVERY day (for weeks now) and have had to take IMITREX every day to relieve the pain.
Avatar m tn m concerned because after talking to my doctor he looked at my charts and noted that I relapse with migraines every three months. These migraines are so severe it keeps me from doing my every day activities. I was wondering what I could take on the side for these because since the amitriptyline isn't working my doctor told me to stay on it for a week and it just still isn't working.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me). One night to avoid the ER with a terrible migraine I broke down and took the imitrex shot. Within seconds the palpitations stopped, and did not pick back up again for about 3 days. That was the last time I had taken imitrex and it's been 3 full months now with no migraine medications, only Advil. Thankfully I started Cranio Sacral which reduced the migraines.
Avatar f tn A little over a month ago I decided (after a 6 day migraine) that I needed to see a neurologist. He diagnosed me with Classic migraines and prescribed me Maltax and Propanolol. I have had zero relief and have literally had a headache / migraine every day since. They changed me to Imitrex instead of the Maltax and added Amitriptyline at night. Still...no relief. So far I have had an MRI and an MRA but nothing showed up that would explain the headaches.
