Imitrex stroke

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex stroke

imitrex

Avatar f tn If you are diagnosed at any time with heart disease or stroke, you do need to stop taking imitrex. Also, it is important to avoid taking it with any other medication that may cause blood vessel constriction, such as the common cold medication phenylephrine, which is found in for example advil cold etc. However, age-appropriate screening for risk factors for stroke and heart disease (for example, cholesterol levels, blood sugar) is important regardless of use of imitrex.
Avatar f tn Hello, I've had migraines (no aura, just spaciness and pain) for several years now and do well on imitrex. For the past few weeks I've experienced numbness on tongue and lips extending to the whole side of my face. This facial numbness has been going on for about a week. In the past couple of days my left eyelid is twitching and I sometimes have a blurry spot in my left eye. I'm not in any pain but I am uncomfortable and kind of anxious.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar n tn I was recently in the hospital for what I thought could be a TIA or Stroke. The final agreement was a complex migraine. Dr. indicated it has s/s of a stroke. I contine to have slurred speech, and r side weakness. I just cant seem to get up and get going with out some help. The hospital tests were a normal, MRI,MRA, EEG, ECHO, Swallow Test, CT. The MRi did show a past small stroke. The neurologist has indicated all is well with me. But I don't feel like all is well.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
1524673 tn?1327841500 Cambia is diclofenac, the same thing as Voltaren (a different brand name), and increases risk of heart or circulatory problems, which includes stroke & heart attack. The longer it is taken, the greater the risk. It's recommended if you take this drug and experience things like chest pain, shortness of breath, slurred speech, weakness, or balance or visual problems that you seek emergency professional care.
Avatar f tn Anyhow, I am not an expert, but some people find relief from Triptan medications, like Imitrex. Have you ever tried triptans? Also, you got me worried when you said you had stroke. Can that show up on an EKG or did you just get an MRI. I was wondering cause I have been getting lots of chest pains/heart palpitations plus migraines, went to ER couple wks ago, they ran and EKG and said my "everything was fine and it's just anxiety". ugh.
Avatar f tn Im only 24 and dont want to die of a stroke or something. I want to prevent anything that I possibly can. I take Imitrex nasal spray at the onset of an attack and it somewhat helps, most of the time. Any other stories, treatments or suggesstions from anyone?????
Avatar n tn Im a 28 year old female, my migraines seem to have gotten worse with age I was put on Imitrex (pill) did not help. Just today I started to have some pressure on the sides of my head near the temples and tension in my neck, I would normally say its just sinus pressure as I do have sinus trouble but this is different then usual it was sudden and felt a little light headed and a little sick to my stomach.
Avatar f tn Do hemiplegic migraine symptoms become better or is there a lasting weakness or pain? I am confused because what I have read says that the stroke like symptoms become better. Whatever kind I have do not respond to imitrex but are better with tegretol. However, the weakness in my hand is constant. Is that permanent? What about the pain in my foot? And the sensation that my foot is frozen? They are not better, no matter what.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar m tn i remember i was scared i was having a stroke, the left side of my body went numb as well as my mouth and tongue. since then it's been a roller coaster ride of pain & disturbance. i'm 27 now, and have been through weeks where i'll have a migraine every other day. then i've gone months without them - actually thinking they were gone for good! i tried a couple different medicines before giving up, imitrex being one of them.
Avatar m tn In 2002 I started getting extremely bad migraine headaches almost weekly which have continued on until the present (treated with Imitrex and propranalol). Upon raising these symptoms to my doctor he noticed the facial wasting instantly and has run some tests including an MRI (head/brain/neck) but was unable to find anything major.
Avatar f tn She was diagnosed with severe migraines, and took Imitrex, but that only dramatically worsened the pain. She has seen numerous neurologists and they did an MRI and found “white specs”. A radiologist believed it to be an early onset of MS, although two neurologists do not believe there is enough convincing evidence that point towards MS. She has also tried taking Lyrica, which again only worsened her pain tremendously.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctors and they thought that it was that I had a stress/cluster headache or low sodium levels (because I was drinking too much water). So I was put on imitrex a migraine headache relief and a muscle relaxer. Which did not help. A few days later I was at my parents house and my vision blacked out and I collapsed on the living room floor. When I was conscious again I could not move my left arm or leg.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter has been suffering from extremely bad headaches, neck pain, dizziness for quite a while. My mother recently passed from a massive brain bleed triggered by stroke. I decided I needed my daughter scanned. MRI results where cerebral tonsillar octopi 3mm-4mm. Still waiting for neurosurgeon consult. In the mean time, I have no idea what to do to help with her daily headaches. We have tried: Aleve, IBU 600mg, Celebrex: nothing is helping. Any suggestions?
518798 tn?1295212279 Hoping my maching was messed up, I ran up to our nurse practictioner and asked her to take it. I was still high. She was very concerned because my dad had his major stroke at 46 and my brother had a heart transplant after passing out playing softball at 50. Anyhoo, they gaveme a clonidine to take in the office to help lower it quickly, then she changed my blood pressure meds. Hopefully that will put an end to the headaches.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn Last year I was diagnosed with having had a complex migraine. For years I have had what I considered "normal migraines" that would go away with an Imitrex injection. This one lasted nearly 2 weeks and caused numbness to my entire left side (face, arm & leg). Thankfully, I did not lose any use. At the time I was on birth control pills to control my endrometrosis and polycystic ovarian sydrome (I have been told there is no other option).
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn My migraines are also on my right side of my head only. The pain is not helped by Imitrex or Zomig (the migraine goes away usually, but the limp pain persists), but is helped somewhat by Valium or Darvocet (though I only take these a few times a year since I have small children). Lately my headaches and associated limp aches have increased in frequency, up to several times per week.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
