Avatar m tn Hi, I do understand that this is difficult for you and your husband. With cluster headaches as a primary differential, then oxygen therapy may contribute some benefits. However, it is interesting to note that your husbands' headaches only occur at a particular time of the year. Is there anything unique at this point of the year? Any special event , activities, weather change or travel at his point of the year? Does your husband have any history of allergies or asthma?
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for the question. For persistent headaches, possibilities like migrainous, cluster, tension and refractive errors that need to be evaluated thoroughly with the help of a neurologist here. Avatar m tn my husband has had these cluster headaches, for 5 years, they come every year, they start in the eye and he screams when they come, they last 5-10 seconds and his eye is red. hes taken all kinds of medicine but none of them work.
Avatar n tn Your son seems to suffering from chronic headaches like cluster headache or migraines. Cluster headaches are severe headaches localized to one side, not associated with an aura like in migraine, which are also a unilateral headache type. Avatar m tn My husband has been diagnosed with migraines and cluster headaches for 20+ years and the cluster headaches are the worse. He is currently on triple treatment with incivek. His miracle drug for migraines & cluster headaches has been Relpax precsribed by his neurologist. During Incivek, he had to take Imitrex as relpax was contraindicated, and that helped too. For nausea he takes Phenergan. His neurologist also recommended Magnesium and CoQ10 enzyme.
4980051 tn?1361868778 Depending on the kind of migraines you get, you need to investigate the medications. The ones I have dealt with my doctor confirmed are both migraines and cluster headaches. She gave me Amitriptyline, to take one every night. It is actually an antidepressant, but taken in low dosage, also treats severe headaches and assists with good sleeping. Mine is a 25 mg. I also take Singulair, which is for Allergies, but my doctor told me that allergies can bring on very bad headaches as well.
Avatar f tn It is difficult to diagnose the cause of headaches on net. Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors, high blood pressure, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, tension headaches, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache can cause similar symptoms. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one. Take care!
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
Avatar m tn The only two triptans that work on cluster headaches are Zomig Nasal Spray and Imitrex Injection. I would suggest asking your doctor for prescriptions for these triptans in order to try, starting with the Zomig Nasal Spray as no one likes to give themselves injections... so, leave the Imitrex Injection for last. Lidocaine nasal spray is also another acute treatment for cluster headaches. It works quite well at aborting the headaches. It is a numbing spray that is sprayed into the nose.
536122 tn?1213486475 tension-type headache and cluster headache.. The attacks of pain can be caused by triggering factors such as stress, hormonal changes, and diet. Tension-type headache is the most common and affects up to 75% of headache sufferers. Although it is more common in women, tension-type headache can affect anyone who sustains the same body position for lengthy periods, or individuals prone to anxiety or stress. 2117144 tn?1334888709 You may or may not get a aura. Imitrex works some for me and there are some new meds for migraine. I know depakote works for some but not others. I would go to a neurologist that specializes in migrianes (as a second opinion). I had an electroencephalogram (EEG) done and that is how they diagnosed me for my migraine variant. It later evolved into a migraine with aura. Anyway, was the CT scan of the brain that they did?
Avatar m tn Hi, Aside from migraine, there are other types of primary headaches such as tension or cluster headaches. And these may occur together also depending on a variety of factors. Triptans constrict blood vessels in the brain and relieve swelling and is used to effectively and quickly relieve headache pain, sensitivity to light and noise, and nausea and vomiting associated with migraines. They are indicated for moderate to severe headaches.
Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
1103688 tn?1257894552 I'll apologize right away for the length of this post!! I've had migraines for as long as I can remember, and have tried different types of treatments. I take 50 mg of Topomax daily as a prophylactic preventative, and it's greatly reduced the number of severe headaches I get, but I still have "normal" headaches almost daily, and if I don't take care of them they will usually turn into migraines.
Avatar m tn Hi there, migraines can be controlled in the long run with medications such as Verapamil 240mg, Imitrex Injections or Pills, Oxygen for 5 minutes. I suffered from cluster headaches and have been in remission for 2 years now and I take one verapamil 240mg each morning for maintenance and it works great. I used oxygen and Imitrex when I had my cycle of headaches, and stay away from a lot of caffeine too, only limit it to small quantities, also see a neurologist every 6 months.
