Avatar f tn Does anyone else have cluster headaches? How do you deal with them? What pain killers help you best? I missed so many classes this first year at college because my cluster cycle was so severe I couldn't get out of bed. OTC medications don't do anything for my pain and my doctors don't want me taking anything too strong do to a minor heart problem I have.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
Avatar m tn my husband has had these cluster headaches, for 5 years, they come every year, they start in the eye and he screams when they come, they last 5-10 seconds and his eye is red. hes taken all kinds of medicine but none of them work.
Avatar f tn s opinion and asking for referrals to local headache centers that focus on cluster headaches may indeed be helpful. Cluster headache usually responds to similar migraine preventative drugs and can often be brought under better control temporarily by steroids or nerve blocks. Many patients also respond to inhaled 100 percent oxygen while others benefit from topical anesthetic applied inside the nose, injected or nasal triptans.
Avatar f tn Hello Im sorry your husband is going through this. First how do you know its cluster headaches? Has your husband been to a headache specialist? Where do u live? Google headache specialist in your area. I had 2 cluster headache cycles in my life and they are no joke almost makes migraines a piece of cake. Avatar f tn I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
327385 tn?1378360731 You should try to get a new family doctor. Also, you could try going to the ER. Or, a walk-in clinic. All of these options will be less expensive than going to a specialist if you can't afford to see a specialist on a regular basis. You absolutely need to find a doctor that will help you with pain management. You should not be in a situation where you feel hopeless. As for ice-pick headaches... do you know what triggers them other than light?
Avatar m tn Hi - i have had cluster headaches since the age of 15yrs. I could give you lots of advice but one thing i have learnt over the many, many years of living with the excruciating painful condition is that it differs slightly from one person to another and the cluster Headache cycle changes - what may work one cycle may not the next. Can i ask have you been to see a Neurologist who SPECIALISES in CLUSTER HEADACHES???
397768 tn?1201616989 was recently told i have cluster headaches, all test came back fine, was put on verapamil wich seemed to help alot, but i still have some problems. it starts with a warm feeling in my head, shaking, numbness in my left arm and face, when its over i have a bad headache and very tired.. im so lost and confused.anyon else with the same problems?
Avatar f tn There are primary headaches that are not due to any underlying medical condition, and secondary headaches due to sinusitis, ear infection, head injury, blood vessel or brain tumor problem, cluster and tension headaches. The child might need an MRI head to rule out. Drugs like analgesics avoiding aspirin for reye’s syndrome, sumatriptan for migraines etc. consult a pediatric neurologist for appropriate advice. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn P, whom from my symptoms and examination, diagnosed cluster headaches! Have been prescribed six day steroid dose and sumitriptan, which does seem to be helping with the excruciating pain but headache is now just a dull pain, also with dizziness. Could the dizziness be caused by the medications?
Avatar m tn Since alcohol is a common trigger for cluster headaches, you might find that you can not drink any type of alcohol at all... cluster headaches are the absolute worst type of headache that exists and it is probably not worth it at all for you to drink alcohol if it sets of a cluster headache. BUT! If you can find a type of alcohol that does not set off your cluster headaches, and you feel safe drinking it, then that's great! :) Keep us updated on how it goes!!
Avatar m tn Im Just at the end of my teather with them. My step Dad also suffers from cluster headaches and the doctors gave him proananol and simatriptan.
Avatar f tn The headaches vary in degree of pain and generally occur a couple of minutes after I wake up and lasts until I go to bed. The headaches always start around the right orbital area and will spread to my forehead, top of the head and at times the back of my head. The headache will worsen with a strong fragrance or noise. The pain will worsen to what I would consider a full migraine, which I treat with vicodin, but generally I just fill pressure and bearable pain the the aforementioned areas.
Avatar m tn t seem to not do it. A while later, I will come down with a migraine. I have been diagnosed with cluster headaches and have been prescribed sumatriptan. Cluster headaches are migraines that usually last for a short period of time, and for me is always on the right temple. The pill works wonders. I only take half the pill and that seems to do the trick every time. If I take the whole pill I will have really bad body aches so I prefer to only take half.
Avatar f tn There can be several causes for headaches like primary headaches which are not associated with any other diseases (example migraine, tension headaches and cluster headaches) or secondary headaches that are caused by some associated disease. Secondary headaches may be due to withdrawal from caffeine, high blood pressure, brain tumors, strokes, meningitis among other causes. Tests such as blood tests, CT scan, MRI or lumbar puncture are usually able to establish a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn It is good that both the MRI and MRA were normal and this means that primary headaches such as cluster and migraine headaches may be considered. Cluster headaches usually respond to oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Preventive medications such as use of steroids, calcium channel blockers and lithium have been used also. Try to avoid over-the-counter medications because these can lead to rebound headaches as well.
Avatar f tn I always have these types of migraine/cluster headaches around AF (periods). Not sure, why but I sleep like I normally do and just before having the headache I get restless and sleepless. Its even more difficult to treat it in early stages since I dont have any clue when the headache strikes....as people can if they follow an aura and headache. It just could be hormonal imbalance/stress. But I truly am scared of the next episode....it spoils my day!!!
Avatar f tn The facial pain may be caused mainly by TN since migraine headaches are associated with one-sided throbbing headaches and sometimes numbing of different body parts such as the extremities and face. Medications or surgery are often done to manage TN while avoiding the migraine triggers and prescription medications help with the headaches. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have been going back and forth to my neurologist and pain clinic manager and both are getting upset at the fact that they can't pin-point the problem. I have had 3 ONB done and they don't really do much for me except taking the pain away for only 6 hours when they are supose to work for up to 3-6 weeks. They want to cut out the nerve because they believe thats the problem. Do you think that this is a good idea? there is a chance it could work for 3 years or more.
Avatar n tn Headaches are of different types like tension, migraine, sinus and cluster headaches. Your headaches seem to be coming in cycles with either pain free interval or reduced intensity. They seem like cluster headaches. Please see these two links for more information on them. http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cause-cluster-headache.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cluster-headache-treatments.
Avatar m tn ) have been ruled out and all doctors have mention that my symptoms seem to be neurological. Cluster headache has been mentioned a lot. However my symptoms don't quite fit. My pain isn't continuous and not sharp-like. My symptom are as followed: sometimes after completing a run outdoors, within a half hour of stopping I begin to get a mild to moderate pain on one of my nose on the nasolabial fold. This pain sometimes throbs and seems to cause me to sneeze a lot.
Avatar f tn Hi check cluster headaches, if its something that you are experiencing write me back as I suffered with those and can tell you what helped me.
Avatar n tn I have Headaches almost every day and Migraines about twice a week. Apo-Indomethacin and Pms-Sumatriptan was prescribed to me by my doctor. I am also on progesterin to help reduce the amount of headaches, I have been using nasal sprays as well. Month six, no change. Blood tests shows no diabetes, Thyroid, liver or kidney problems. I have been sleeping about 13-14 hours a day.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Although, there are other analgesics that can be used if the headaches are very severe such as barbiturates and opiates. These medications are not usually as effective for migraine headaches, and they can have high side-effect profiles and high-dependency profiles. Also, I am fairly sure that barbiturates can cause rebound headaches too. But, for some people these medications can be very useful.
Avatar f tn this causes the ligaments and tendons to be lax, subluxations and joint pain) I used to get migraines, but they changed into cluster headaches ( I think). i havent noticed a pattern in frequency or figured out an initial cause, (my neck is getting an MRI soon to see if there is a problem caused by the EDS.) They always are the same though. Mid-late morning I dont really have pain but i know one's coming.
Avatar f tn Anyone else diagnosed with cluster headaches before pregnancy? If so do you find yourself experiencing them more now that you're pregnant? I get them, usually between December and March, but last night I started with one and it still hasn't gone away.
