635402 tn?1270162477 On May 16, Glaxo-Smith-Kline Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Imitrex, announced that they were releasing a new drug for the treatment of migraines. The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn Hi jcovaliu, Lots of us here on the forum suffer from chronic migraines, so we can really sympathize with you. Many of us have tried multiple preventative medications before finding the right preventative medication that worked for us. The Elatrolet you are taking is a preventative medication, it's generic name is Amitriptyline.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Not all triptans use the same ingredients, and often times it is the other ingredients that people will have the adverse reactions to (for instance, Imitrex is a Sulfa drug, and although most people with Sulfa antibiotic allergies don't end up having allergic reactions to Imitrex, it should still be noted that none of the other Triptans are Sulfa drugs). There is a triptan called Naratriptan, the brand name is Amerge, and it tends to have much less adverse reactions than Imitrex.
Avatar f tn 37 year old daughter has chronic headaches is on coumadin and imitrex no longer working.
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines for 22 years. I have tried every drug there is. I use imitrex and that seems to help get rid of them sometimes. I have been to Mayos Clinic, allergy clinics, had a hysterectomy, and to a Univ. Hospital. I am at the end of the line. I am getting 2 to 3 a week. The last drug I tried, Verampamil, is what the Mayos Dr. suggested. I did find out I had sleep apnea so now I don't wake up with a migraine. I'm getting older and I'm getting tired of the pain.
Avatar f tn Be careful with that chica! It is very addictive. It is a barbituate and if you do become dependent or addicted to it, you have to taper slowly off of it. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous, and possibly cause seizures. Do some research on it before you even consider taking it. (Always a good idea with any drug. Doctors often neglect to tell you about side effects, etc.) Maybe talk to your doctor about an alternate treatment option. There are a TON out there. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn My husband takes dilanitin for seizures. He had to take a drug test for a job and tested positive for barbituates. Does any one know if this is common?
Avatar n tn Your taking this drug for an anxiety disorder is what I term a “work-around.” It is an attempt to deal with the symptom but does not get at the cause. My guess is that your anxiety is counteracting the drug effect (which is a known negative effect with this medication). I do not know what you are doing to deal with the anxiety, but I think that this is where your cure lies. To my knowledge, there is not a negative physical effect on your penis. S.A.Liroff, M.D.
Avatar f tn My doctor tried to get me to take a drug called Sevella and I have migraines and take Imitrex for them. If I had taken the Imitrex with the Sevella it could shut down my brain stem and possible death. Luckily, I looked it up and called the pharmacist and they NO WAY don't take Sevella with Imitrex. I called my GP back and they say well that is why I said to take half a pill, plus the pills were expired for two months (he had given me a sample).
Avatar f tn I had a similar problem with Maxalt (a drug in the same class as Relpax-they are both triptans). My insurance would only cover 12 pills, and I need more. My doctor filled out the necessary paperwork for my insurance co., saying I need more than "typically alotted". The pharmacy division of your insurance co. can give you more info. If that's not possible, have you tried another triptan? Maxalt, Imitrex, and Relpax all work for my migraines. Good luck!
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn Imitrex is a really good(non narcotic) drug for migraines. It helped my sinus headaches.
1103688 tn?1257894552 For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
Avatar n tn The only medication that help me is a cocktail of 2 aspirins, 2 Tylenol and 2 Motrin 800mg, if I catch it at the beginning. I f is too late,Imitrex 100mg works for me, specially the injection, pills are prone to take effect a bit later, but the injection is inmediate .
Avatar f tn I take nettle tea. Alieve seems to be the only drug that helps. My doctor said that atmosphere can have a lot to do with it--and advised me to relocate. Is there anything else that works which I could take?
Avatar f tn I believe Imigran is the same as Imitrex in the states - I live in Bangkok so we get different brand names here in Thailand. Have any of you had success with this drug? I sure hope it works for me. Also, I need to start keeping a food journal. I think coffee (which I love!) may be a trigger. Splenda and other various forms of aspartame I think might be causing them as well, but not 100% sure just yet.
Avatar n tn t know if that helps, but I was put on that exact drug for back pain with sciatica and it made the sciatica go away but had serious adverse side effects for me. Can you phone your Dco and ask what the reason is that you were put on it?
333672 tn?1273792789 Yet another case of the consumer getting s-crewed. I'm wondering if the same sort of thing is going on with the 'new and improved' version of Imitrex (for migraines). The drug company is advertising heavily on TV about this. I think there's just some Advil added, or something small like that, but I'm not sure.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
