Imiquimod treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Imiquimod treatment

Avatar m tn It started as a single tiny pimple like bump on my penis glans. After starting treatment with imiquimod, the lesion started to disappear, but as soon as it did, three others appeared on the other side of the penis glans. And after those disappeared, another one appeared...Is it common to new lesions appear during treatment? To make matters worse, I am in an acute Herpes infection, already diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Recently (5/28) diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum and besides from cryotherapy for treatment i also received Aldara cream 5%. (the derm did not get every lump/wart with the liquid nitrogen) Questions I have about this is; How effective is it to be used? Should I apply it with a finger or would a Q-Tip be better or should it be something else? How exactly does it work?
Avatar m tn html?WT.ec_id=NCOMMS-20130305 Aldara is a cream used for topical treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer, and is thought to act through stimulation of anti-tumour immunity. The active ingredient, imiquimod, has been shown to stimulate toll-like receptor 7. Aldara also induces psoriasis-like lesions when applied to naive murine skin, and as such is used as a mouse model for psoriasis. Here we find that in naive murine skin, Aldara induces inflammation largely independently of toll-like receptor 7.
Avatar m tn Should I put my imiquimod treatment on hold for a little while to let the lesions heal? Should I put Neosporin or something on the lesions? Or is this normal and should I just continue to regularly apply the imiquimod cream? Thanks!
Avatar m tn The bumps were located in my public area above my genitals. I was given Imiquimod to treat the infection. Toward the end of the treatment I developed itchy blisters at the treatment site. I went to my doctor and he said it appeared to be herpes. He swabbed the fluid and had it tested. It came back positive for the herpes virus but he said he did not type the sample and it could be HSV1, HSV2, or zoster. He prescribed valtrex and everything healed up.
Avatar m tn He's had some skin condition that his vet thinks is cancer, and said the main treatment was surgery, but due to his age (and, unfortunately, the expense involved--last year alone, she's spent over $2000 on vet bills), that's not a viable option for her. She did use a cream on him that appeared to temporarily work-- imiquimod cream 5% - drug name Aldara. It has 12 single application doses (each the size of a postage stamp).
Avatar f tn Hello, Aldara cream should be applied 3 times per week to external genital/perianal warts. Aldara (imiquimod) Cream treatment should continue until there is total clearance of the genital/perianal warts or for a maximum of 16 weeks. It should be left on the skin for 6 -10 hours, after which time the cream should be removed by washing the area with mild soap and water. It shows results frequently after 6-8 weeks of use.
Avatar m tn I have had genital warts for over a year. I have been using Imiquimod cream for about 2 months now. Most or all of the warts have disappeared. Toward the end of the treatment, however, one area of my penis became very red and the middle part of the red area has started to scab (see included picture). It has been this way for about 2 weeks now. Is this redness and scabbing normal with Imiquimod use? Should I be putting some kind of antibiotic cream (neosporin, etc.) on this area?
Avatar n tn I am wondering if you have any thoughts about this treatment vis-a-vis other treatments. My bumps are so small I was wondering if Imiquimod might be a better option.
Avatar m tn Hello, For warts, , treatment methods like several medications(like podophyllum resin, Podofilox (Condylox), Trichloroacetic and bichloroacetic acids, Imiquimod 5% cream and interferons) are available, which can be applied directly to the surface of the warts. Other treatment options include electrical cautery, surgical removal, Carbon dioxide laser treatment and electrodesiccation.
Avatar f tn I have only come across literature stating it is a genital wart treatment. Is it now a known effective skin tag treatment? Why wouldnt his doctor pick a more conservative commonly used method over a medication with lots of adverse side effects? Perhaps my ex is lying to me/maybe his derm isnt being honest with him. There are a lot of possibilities here and I simply would like an opinion so I know whether or not I have possibly been exposed to genital warts.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a male, 26yrs old. Can anyone describe their experiences with Imiquimod? I am on the 3.75% cream which my doctor has told me to use every other day for a month. In the first 2 weeks, nothing happened, only just a couple days ago I noticed a very slight indication that the medication might be working, but I'm still not sure. I have about 20-30 very small warts, and notice 2 or 3 of them showing a bit of redness and drying up a bit. Still not sure if this is due to the medication.
Avatar m tn I have an appointment with the dermatologist in two weeks. Should I stop treatment in the area because I can't see the warts anymore or is that too quick for the warts to have disappeared even with treatment? I know that a healthy immune system can usually clear the virus in a few months or years, but recurrences are normal. If I do have a recurrence will they be just as bad as the first outbreak or do they lessen over time? Lastly should I get checked for anal cancer?
Avatar f tn Hello, For small warts that affect only the skin around the anus, several medications(like podophyllum resin, ,, Trichloroacetic and bichloroacetic acids, Imiquimod 5% cream and interferons) are available, which can be applied directly to the surface of the warts. Other treatment options include electrical cautery, surgical removal, Carbon dioxide laser treatment and electrodesiccation. In my opinion you should talk to a cosmetologist/dermatologist about this and get this wart evaluated.
535760 tn?1213894766 since then i have noticed a couple tiny ones in another area. the pain and discomfort of the acid treatment is almost unbearable even a week later. I know there are 2 types of cream for treatment of hpv. which one is better? Podofilox (Condylox), or Imiquimod (Aldara)? so i have some feedback and concerns to talk to my doc about.
Avatar n tn I have had HPV for 5+ years and recently had another outbreak. I went to my new family doctor who recommended an acid treatment as Aldara and other topical treaments failed to work in the past. The acid sure did work but caused nasty scabs which eventually went away, but now I have scars. Some of the scars are toerable but there are two that are dark under the skin and recently when I was arroused it appeared as if blood collected under the skin as they turned dark purple. It has been 1.
Avatar f tn If I take a week off then resume for the last week will it affect the way the treatment is supposed to work? A lot of my questions are answered on other peoples questions. I notice lots of communication is from a few years ago. Is there anyone from back then still in this site ? If so, can you give me an update on your lives now? Do you feel like normal people again?
Avatar f tn I smoke marijuana daily and my girlfriend was prescribed imiquimod cream for molluscum contagiousum which I appear to have as well, I've done three treatments so far (three times a week) and I'm curious to the effects marijuana smoking may have on treating the molluscum. I know that imiquimod works by provoking an immune response in treated regions, and that marijuana does effect immune health. Is there any advice? Should I stop smoking during treatment?
Avatar m tn TCA/BCA is a standard treatment for external genital warts -- gynecologists in particuler tend to use it. This treatment is no better (and no worse) than the several other standard wart treatments: freezing, laser, imiquimod (Aldara, Zyclara), podofilox (Condylox), or sinecatechins (Veregen). It will speed up clearance of the visible, diagnosed warts -- but none of these treatments eradicate HPV or treat nearby infected tissues.
Avatar n tn Should I try laser surgery? 2. Should I keep doing Podophyllin treatments? 3. Are there any other treatment options? I've read about Imiquod and heat shock proteins. I've also read that dysplasia may be a risk and I am wondering whether and how this should be taken into consideration. Thank you.

Avatar n tn Dear Sir/Madam I am a Medical Doctor (GP), I have a patient who is infected to HPV , the lesions are small ( only one of them is 3 milimeters )but spreads all vulvar area , the specialist advised for surgery. I am looking for any other topical or oral new treatment even it is to be an over counter medicine , or any parallel treatment. Also this woman is married , what about his housband. He dosen't have any symptom but as I found he had a sex with other partner so he affected his wife.
Avatar m tn Alternatively, radiofrequency (RF) cautery can be done over lesions. Topical treatments like cantheridine ,Imiquimod, Cidofovir are available but I won’t recommend them as they are time consuming and long follow up is required. The best option in your case would be RF cautery or cryotherapy. I would suggest that you avoid sexual contact till the lesions resolve. Hope that this information helps and hope that you will get better soon.
Avatar m tn I understand trichloroacetic acid to be the more common treatment. After treatment, some of the skin he treats turns light. Can treatment from DCA do any permanent damage to the pigment in my skin? Eventually, I'd like to be at a point where my immune system clears this and I don't have to talk about my treatments. Finally my doc has suggested I get the HPV vaccine (I'm a 28 y/o male). I will be glad to to protect myself from the strains of HPV I haven't gotten yet.

Avatar f tn I found out that my diabetes medication Meformin may contribute to inhibiting viral replication and I constantly remind myself of that fact whenever my sugar begins to fluctuate or goes too high while on treatment. If I dwelt on the thought that the treatment may be making my diabetes worse, I would go mad.
Avatar n tn Surgery was in December, small wart visible 4 weeks post op with treatment with TCA (internal). Then again treatment (January) with TCA in what I think was 3 different areas (internal) and the plan is to follow up treatment every 2 to 4 weeks until no more warts. The last treatment, while not horribly painful, was painful and I am wondering if this plan is feasible treatment and something I need to continue.
Avatar f tn I have known being the carrier for about 10 years (probably since birth). I first started treatment since Jan 08, due to very high load of DNA (almost 600m copies) and high AST, ALT (200, 600 respectively). Echographie abdominale shows Liver were functioning well (all following tests showed same result). As prescribed by doctor, I have been using Baraclude since. After 6 months treatment (Jul 08), ALT, AST were back in normal range. Virus count dropped to less than 30K copies .
