My 24 year cousin is my best friend and was just diagnosed with CML and her doctors are very optimistic, but she has so many qiestions she is scared to ask. They are going to put her on the "Miracle Pill" will she lose her hair? Will is hurt her chances of have children? As optimistic as the doctors are, is there any chance that this is a fatal condition?

You can ask your hematologist for G-CSF injection if you have persistent neutropenia. Patients with CML are immunocompromised and can easily acquire infections. Neutropenia also puts a patient in an immunocompromised state.
For now, it is very important to prevent acquiring any infection. You should avoid crowded places and persons with ongoing infection.

My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Hi, what you need to do is get a copy of that test which may talk about finding the Phila Chromosome. Maybe it's even online? If it does say that, then the next step would be to find out the odds of a false positive.

I went to the doctor for an infection and said I had been short of breath for about 3 weeks. Turns out my heart rate was dropping into the low 40's upper 30's. Well as they monitored that and did blood work they also found the CML. Is this a common thing to have low heart rate with CML? As a coworkers friends daughter was also just diagnosed with the CML she too is having low heart rate issues. Sound like too much to be coincidence.

Yes, CBC tests can come back fine even with cancer present (usually in the early stages), but my guess is your daughter most likely has an infection brewing, causing the elevated leukocytes and mouth sores. This is usually the reason for elevated wbc's. Family history of CML is not a risk factor, as it a chromosomal mutation that is acquired after birth (and usually in older people).
I also would like to impose the question of prognosis for polycythemia vera. None of the doctors are willing to state or predict life expectancy, I only know what I've read on the internet. Thank you for answering our questions.
I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
I'm so sorry this is happening to your husband. Your husband was on therapy for his CML. A target high dose therapy. Apparently, he had adverse effect of some kind during the therapy. Transfusions can be a
part of having leukemia and he does have a two blood related diseases.

many variables and they just might not know exactly which one is causing

I regularly dont drink very much but one weekend (about 2 weeks ago) i got together with some friends and we partied for like 4 days. On the second night i vomited and for the next couple days i had little to no food .On the third night i only had 1 or 2 beers and the last night i didnt drink at all. Its been almost 2 weeks and ever since that weekend ive felt really out of it and light headed but recently it seems have gotten a little worse. im 16, about 6 feet tall and weigh 145.
Anyways, this time we also did a differential on my CBC - all results came back in range except for my ANC - this number came in at 8,480 - the to end of normal range being 7,800 from our lab.
I feel fine though, no sweats, no appetite loss and I do not have any infections or anything currently (I think at least, no fever, no vomiting), or even back when I did the blood test first time, I felt fine then.
So now I am really scared, and do not know what is causing this high neutrophil count.
