The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML.
Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
You can ask your hematologist for G-CSF injection if you have persistent neutropenia. Patients with CML are immunocompromised and can easily acquire infections. Neutropenia also puts a patient in an immunocompromised state.
For now, it is very important to prevent acquiring any infection. You should avoid crowded places and persons with ongoing infection.

My 24 year cousin is my best friend and was just diagnosed with CML and her doctors are very optimistic, but she has so many qiestions she is scared to ask. They are going to put her on the "Miracle Pill" will she lose her hair? Will is hurt her chances of have children? As optimistic as the doctors are, is there any chance that this is a fatal condition?
We are scared should we be?
My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
In Jan WBC was still around 12 but he also performed a gene test and said the results were very suspicious. He said I had CML and scheduled a bone marrow biopsy for the following day when my husband could be with me. After 10 days I went back for the results and was told the biopsy came back normal and that I did not have CML. My question is...does the normal biopsy rule out CML all together? Even with the positive gene test (which I believe was positive for the Philadelphia chromosome).
If you had a case like this that you ruled out everything but CML and called her a one in a million case that is atypical, what would you have checked for before giving it the atypical ruling? I could then ask if those things were checked for. Thank you so much for your response. I really don't know anywhere else to go with these questions.
Sunday morning she had paresis in her hind legs. She wanted to drink but not eat. Around 6 she was panting very hard and there was an odor that I can't describe. By 0730 she had passed away. I am looking for answers as to what might have happened to her.
My uncle was diagnosed with CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) His last full body checkup was a year ago and it was all normal back then. He regularly did full body checkup.

1) Could a person get into 3rd or 4th stage under a year?
2) Is there a cure for CML?
My cat Austin is around 6. he has has sinus infection, pink eye, n diabetes (8 months ago now diet controlled) now he has vomited multiple times and won't eat. He is voiding and was still drinking water. Brought to the vet n labs n urinalysis were ok, vet felt a hard ball in lower abdomen, ultrasound showed it was very hard cause sound waves bounced back.
My ex girlfriend (17 at that year) have leukemia( cml) and we did unprotected oral sex. Only oral We both preformed it and now i have a fear about hiv.. she did lot of tests because her sick. But i never heard she has hiv...till nowadays i had no fears. But now i have a phobia about hiv and i remembered this story. If she have hiv ???. I have no symptoms and my blood counts are very normal. Do i need a test.?. Or my fear is unwarranted ?
CML effect the liver and so does Hepatitis C. Advanced Hepatitis C and CML causes low platelets and both are related to the blood.

I woke up this morning to find out that she seems to have had diarrhea once and that now one of her eyes is slightly closed and leaking. I noticed that she has been drinking a lot more water; although she hasn't tried to eat anything else recently. Even though she had diarrhea last night, I believe she may be constipated because earlier she tried to poop, but struggled for a moment and gave up. When she exited her litter box she began to scoot her but across the floor and like herself.
Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.
This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
We got our 2 9 mth old female kittens spayed on Thursday, one is eating a drinking good and so is the other smaller one. However since we got the smaller one home she has vomitted 4-5 times is this normal?
So now I am really scared, and do not know what is causing this high neutrophil count. I came across CML - and the article mentioned several things:
1) Alot of people do not feel any symptoms at the start
2) They became diagonosed off of a routine blood test
So I am starting to think that this is it. My doctor is on vacation and will be back next week. But what do yo guys think? I can't seem to come up with any opther explanation (except my smoking perhaps).
I had my blood work done a few weeks back and my doctor said my platelet count was high. I went back today to have them checked again so I should know the results in a few days, but I wanted to give some more info and ask a possible reason for the higher levels?
Here are what I was high in
Platelet Count was 643 (140-400 Thousand/uL) is normal, so as you can see I am much higher than 400.
Red Blood Cell Count was 5.30 (3.8-10.8 Thousand/uL)
Hemoglobin was 17.0 (13.5-15.
